1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for fifty-five years inJerusalem.	1 בן שתים עשרה שנה מנשה במלכו וחמשים וחמש שנה מלך בירושלם
2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.	2 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה כתועבות הגוים אשר הוריש יהוה מפני בני ישראל
3 He rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had demolished, he set up altars to Baal andmade sacred poles, he worshipped the whole array of heaven and served it.	3 וישב ויבן את הבמות אשר נתץ יחזקיהו אביו ויקם מזבחות לבעלים ויעש אשרות וישתחו לכל צבא השמים ויעבד אתם
4 He built altars in the Temple of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, 'My name wil be in Jerusalem forever.'	4 ובנה מזבחות בבית יהוה אשר אמר יהוה בירושלם יהיה שמי לעולם
5 He built altars to the whole array of heaven in the two courts of the Temple of Yahweh.	5 ויבן מזבחות לכל צבא השמים בשתי חצרות בית יהוה
6 He caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom. He practisedsoothsaying, divination and sorcery, and had dealings with mediums and spirit-guides. He did very many morethings displeasing to Yahweh, thus provoking his anger.	6 והוא העביר את בניו באש בגי בן הנם ועונן ונחש וכשף ועשה אוב וידעוני הרבה לעשות הרע בעיני יהוה להכעיסו
7 He put a sculpted image, an idol which he had had made, inside the Temple of which God had said toDavid and his son Solomon, 'In this Temple and in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of al the tribes ofIsrael, I shal put my name for ever.	7 וישם את פסל הסמל אשר עשה בבית האלהים אשר אמר אלהים אל דויד ואל שלמה בנו בבית הזה ובירושלם אשר בחרתי מכל שבטי ישראל אשים את שמי לעילום
8 Nor shal I ever again remove Israel's foot from the soil on which I established your ancestors oncondition that they were careful to observe al I commanded them as laid down in the whole Law, the statutesand the ordinances, given through Moses.'	8 ולא אוסיף להסיר את רגל ישראל מעל האדמה אשר העמדתי לאבתיכם רק אם ישמרו לעשות את כל אשר צויתים לכל התורה והחקים והמשפטים ביד משה
9 But Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into doing worse things than the nationswhich Yahweh had destroyed for the Israelites.	9 ויתע מנשה את יהודה וישבי ירושלם לעשות רע מן הגוים אשר השמיד יהוה מפני בני ישראל
10 When Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and his people, they would not listen.	10 וידבר יהוה אל מנשה ואל עמו ולא הקשיבו
11 Yahweh then brought down on them the generals of the king of Assyria's army who capturedManasseh with hooks, put him in chains and took him to Babylon.	11 ויבא יהוה עליהם את שרי הצבא אשר למלך אשור וילכדו את מנשה בחחים ויאסרהו בנחשתים ויוליכהו בבלה
12 While in his distress, he placated Yahweh his God by genuinely humbling himself before the God ofhis ancestors.	12 וכהצר לו חלה את פני יהוה אלהיו ויכנע מאד מלפני אלהי אבתיו
13 When he prayed to him, he was moved by his entreaty, heard his supplication and brought him backto Jerusalem to his kingdom. Manasseh realised then that Yahweh is God.	13 ויתפלל אליו ויעתר לו וישמע תחנתו וישיבהו ירושלם למלכותו וידע מנשה כי יהוה הוא האלהים
14 Afterwards, he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, to the west of Gihon, in the val ey, up to theFish Gate and round the Ophel, and made it very much higher. And he stationed military governors in al thefortified towns of Judah.	14 ואחרי כן בנה חומה חיצונה לעיר דויד מערבה לגיחון בנחל ולבוא בשער הדגים וסבב לעפל ויגביהה מאד וישם שרי חיל בכל הערים הבצרות ביהודה
15 He also removed the foreign gods and the idol from the Temple of Yahweh, as well as all the altarswhich he had built on the mountain of the Temple of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and threw them out of the city.	15 ויסר את אלהי הנכר ואת הסמל מבית יהוה וכל המזבחות אשר בנה בהר בית יהוה ובירושלם וישלך חוצה לעיר
16 He repaired the altar of Yahweh and offered communion sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings on it,and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, God of Israel.	16 ויכן את מזבח יהוה ויזבח עליו זבחי שלמים ותודה ויאמר ליהודה לעבוד את יהוה אלהי ישראל
17 The people, however, went on sacrificing at the high places, although only to Yahweh their God.	17 אבל עוד העם זבחים בבמות רק ליהוה אלהיהם
18 The rest of the history of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the prophecies of the seers whospoke to him in the name of Yahweh, God of Israel, can be found in the Annals of the Kings of Israel.	18 ויתר דברי מנשה ותפלתו אל אלהיו ודברי החזים המדברים אליו בשם יהוה אלהי ישראל הנם על דברי מלכי ישראל
19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, all his sins, his infidelity, the sites where he builthigh places and set up sacred poles and idols before humbling himself, are set down in the records of Hozai.	19 ותפלתו והעתר לו וכל חטאתו ומעלו והמקמות אשר בנה בהם במות והעמיד האשרים והפסלים לפני הכנעו הנם כתובים על דברי חוזי
20 Then Manasseh fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the garden of his palace. His sonAmon succeeded him.	20 וישכב מנשה עם אבתיו ויקברהו ביתו וימלך אמון בנו תחתיו
21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for two years inJerusalem.	21 בן עשרים ושתים שנה אמון במלכו ושתים שנים מלך בירושלם
22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, as his father Manasseh had done, for Amon sacrificed to althe images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.	22 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה כאשר עשה מנשה אביו ולכל הפסילים אשר עשה מנשה אביו זבח אמון ויעבדם
23 He did not humble himself before Yahweh as his father Manasseh had done; on the contrary, Amonwilfully added to his guilt.	23 ולא נכנע מלפני יהוה כהכנע מנשה אביו כי הוא אמון הרבה אשמה
24 His retinue plotted against him and killed him in his own palace.	24 ויקשרו עליו עבדיו וימיתהו בביתו
25 The people of the country, however, slaughtered al those who had plotted against King Amon andproclaimed his son Josiah as his successor.	25 ויכו עם הארץ את כל הקשרים על המלך אמון וימליכו עם הארץ את יאשיהו בנו תחתיו
