2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons. | 2 Les Philistins serrèrent de près Saül et ses fils et ils tuèrent Jonathan, Abinadab et Malki-Shua, les fils de Saül. |
3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers. | 3 Le poids du combat se porta sur Saül. Les tireurs d'arc le surprirent et il fut blessé par lestireurs. |
4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. | 4 Alors Saül dit à son écuyer: "Tire ton épée et transperce-moi, de peur que ces incirconcis neviennent et ne se jouent de moi." Mais son écuyer ne voulut pas, car il était rempli d'effroi. Alors Saül prit sonépée et se jeta sur elle. |
5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him. | 5 Voyant que Saül était mort, l'écuyer se jeta lui aussi sur son épée et mourut avec lui. |
6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together. | 6 Ainsi moururent ensemble Saül, ses trois fils et toute sa maison. |
7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them. | 7 Lorsque tous les Israélites qui étaient dans la vallée virent que les hommes d'Israël étaient endéroute et que Saül et ses fils avaient péri, ils abandonnèrent leurs villes et prirent la fuite. 12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days. | 12 tous les braves se mirent en route. 13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance. | 13 Saül mourut pour s'être montré infidèle envers Yahvé: il n'avait pas observé la parole deYahvé et de plus avait interrogé et consulté une nécromancienne. |
14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse. | 14 Il n'avait pas consulté Yahvé, qui le fit mourir et transféra la royauté à David, fils de Jessé. |
