1 Kings 22

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 Trascorsero tre anni senza che ci fosse guerra tra Aram e Israele.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 Il terzo anno Giosafat, re di Giuda, scese dal re d'Israele.
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 Il re d'Israele parlò ai suoi ufficiali: "Non sapete che Ramot di Gàlaad ci appartiene? E noi non facciamo nulla per strapparla dalle mani del re di Aram!".
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Disse poi a Giosafat: "Verrai con me a combattere a Ramot di Gàlaad?". Giosafat rispose al re d'Israele: "Conta su me come su te, sul mio popolo come sul tuo, sui miei cavalli come sui tuoi!".
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 Però Giosafat disse al re d'Israele: "Ti prego, consulta il Signore oggi stesso".
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Allora il re d'Israele convocò i profeti in numero di circa quattrocento e disse loro: "Devo salire a combattere a Ramot di Gàlaad oppure devo rinunciarvi?". Quelli risposero: "Sali pure perché il Signore la darà in mano al re".
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Allora Giosafat domandò: "Non v'è nessun altro profeta del Signore, perché possiamo consultarlo per mezzo suo?".
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 Il re di Israele rispose a Giosafat: "V'è ancora un uomo adatto per consultare il Signore, ma io lo detesto, perché non mi profetizza mai cose buone, ma solo cattive; è Michea, figlio di Imla". Giosafat replicò: "Il re non dica queste cose!".
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Allora il re d'Israele chiamò un eunuco e gli disse: "Fa' venire subito Michea, figlio di Imla".
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, stavano seduti, ciascuno sul suo trono, con gli abiti di gala, nell'aia antistante la porta di Samaria, e tutti quei profeti profetavano alla loro presenza.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." 12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 Tutti i profeti profetavano allo stesso modo: "Sali a Ramot di Gàlaad e avrai successo perché il Signore la darà in mano al re!".
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Il messaggero, che era stato mandato a chiamare Michea, gli disse: "Ecco, gli oracoli dei profeti sono unanimemente favorevoli al re; sia anche il tuo oracolo come quello di ognuno di essi: annuncia il bene".
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 Michea rispose: "Com'è vero che vive il Signore, quello che il Signore mi dirà, io lo annuncerò!".
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Quindi si recò dal re il quale gli disse: "Michea, dobbiamo andare a Ramot di Gàlaad a combattere oppure dobbiamo rinunciarvi?". Egli rispose: "Sali pure, perché avrai successo e il Signore ti darà in mano il re".
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 Ma il re gli replicò: "Quante volte dovrò supplicarti di non dirmi che la verità in nome del Signore?".
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 Quegli disse: "Ho visto tutto Israele disperso sui monti come un gregge che è privo di pastore. Il Signore dice: "Essi non hanno più padroni e perciò ciascuno se ne torni a casa in pace".
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: "Non ti avevo detto che costui non mi avrebbe profetato del bene bensì del male?".
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 Il profeta però riprese: "Ascolta la parola del Signore: ho visto il Signore assiso in trono, mentre l'intera schiera celeste stava alla sua presenza, alla sua destra e alla sua sinistra.
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 Il Signore domandò: "Chi sedurrà Acab perché salga e perisca a Ramot di Gàlaad?". Chi rispondeva in un modo, chi in un altro.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 Finalmente uscì uno spirito che stette alla presenza del Signore e disse: "Io lo sedurrò!". Il Signore gli domandò: "In che modo?".
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 Quegli rispose: "Uscirò e sarò spirito di menzogna in bocca di tutti i suoi profeti". Il Signore gli disse: "Certo riuscirai a sedurlo, va' e fa' così!".
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Ecco quindi che il Signore ha posto uno spirito di menzogna in bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti, perché il Signore ha stabilito del male a tuo riguardo".
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 Allora Sedecia figlio di Chenaana s'avvicinò e colpì Michea sulla guancia dicendo: "Come mai lo spirito del Signore s'è allontanato da me per parlare con te?".
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 Michea rispose: "Ecco, lo vedrai tu stesso in quel giorno in cui correrai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti".
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 Allora il re d'Israele disse: "Prendi Michea e conducilo da Amon, governatore della città, e da Ioas, figlio del re.
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 Dirai loro: "Così parla il re: Mettete costui in prigione e dategli scarsa razione di pane e di acqua fino a che non ritornerò sano e salvo".
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 Michea disse: "Se tu ritornerai sano e salvo, il Signore non ha parlato per mio mezzo!".
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, salirono a Ramot di Gàlaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: "Io mi travestirò e andrò a combattere, ma tu rimani vestito dei tuoi abiti!". Il re d'Israele si travestì e andò a combattere.
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Ora il re di Aram aveva ordinato ai trentadue comandanti dei carri: "Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma solo contro il re d'Israele".
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Quando i comandanti dei carri videro Giosafat dissero: "E' sicuramente il re d'Israele!". E si rivolsero verso di lui per investirlo; ma Giosafat lanciò un grido.
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 Come i comandanti dei carri videro che non era il re d'Israele, s'allontanarono da lui.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Un uomo scoccò a caso il suo arco e colpì il re d'Israele tra il corsetto e le maglie della corazza. 35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 La battaglia divenne più violenta in quel giorno, cosicché il re se ne stette ritto sul suo carro di fronte agli Aramei e morì verso sera. 36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 Al calar del sole un grido si sparse per l'accampamento: "Ognuno alla sua città e ognuno al suo paese!
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 E' morto il re!". Tornarono a Samaria e vi seppellirono il re.
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 Il carro fu lavato nella piscina di Samaria, dove si lavavano le prostitute, e i cani leccarono il suo sangue secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciato.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Le altre gesta di Acab, tutte le sue azioni, il palazzo d'avorio ch'egli costruì e tutte le città che edificò non sono forse descritti nel libro degli Annali dei re d'Israele?

42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem.
