1 Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.	1 Ecce spes eius frustrabitur eum, et aspectu eius praecipitabitur.
2 Is he not relentless when aroused; who then dares stand before him?	2 Nemo tam audax, ut suscitet eum. Quis enim resistere potest vultui eius?
3 Who has assailed him and come off safe-- Who under all the heavens?	3 Quis eum aggressus est et salvus fuit? Sub omni caelo quisnam?
4 I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.	4 Non tacebo super membra eius et eloquar robur et gratiam struis.
5 Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?	5 Quis revelabit faciem indumenti eius, et duplicia mandibulae eius quis intrabit?
6 Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?	6 Portas vultus eius quis aperiet? Per gyrum dentium eius formido.
7 Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;	7 Corpus illius quasi scuta fusilia, compactum sigillo siliceo:
8 They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;	8 unum uni coniungitur, et ne spiraculum quidem incedit per ea;
9 So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.	9 unum alteri adhaeret, et tenentes se nequaquam separantur.
10 When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.	10 Sternutatio eius favillae ignis, et oculi eius ut palpebrae diluculi.
11 Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.	11 De ore eius lampades procedunt, sicut scintillae ignis emittuntur.
12 From his nostrils issues steam, as from a seething pot or bowl.	12 De naribus eius procedit fumus, sicut ollae succensae atque ferventis.
13 His breath sets coals afire; a flame pours from his mouth.	13 Halitus eius prunas ardere facit, et flamma de ore eius egreditur.
14 Strength abides in his neck, and terror leaps before him.	14 In collo eius morabitur fortitudo, et faciem eius praecedit angor.
	15 Palearia eius cohaerentia sibi compressa non moventur.
16 His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.	16 Cor eius induratur tamquam lapis et duratur quasi mola inferior.
17 When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.	17 Cum surrexerit, tremunt fortes et ab undis retrorsum convertuntur.
18 Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.	18 Qui impegerit in eum, gladius eius non stabit nec hasta neque pilum neque thorax;
19 He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.	19 reputat enim quasi paleas ferrum et quasi lignum putridum aes.
20 The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.	20 Non fugat eum vir sagittarius, in stipulam versi sunt ei lapides fundae.
21 Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.	21 Quasi stipulam aestimat fustem et deridet vibrantem acinacem.
22 His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.	22 Sub ipso acumina testae, et sternit tribula super lutum.
23 He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.	23 Fervescere facit quasi ollam profundum et mare ponit quasi vas unguentarium.
24 Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.	24 Post se illuminat semitam, aestimatur abyssus quasi canescens.
25 Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.	25 Non est super terram potestas, quae comparetur ei, qui factus est, ut nullum timeret.
26 All, however lofty, fear him; he is king over all proud beasts.	26 Omne sublime videt: ipse est rex super universos filios superbiae ”.
