| 1 Se adunque alcuna consolazione in Cristo, se alcun conforto della carità, se alcuna comunione di spirito, se viscere di compassione: | 1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, |
| 2 Rendete compiuto il mio gaudio con essere concordi, con avere la stessa carità, una sola anima, uno stesso sentimento: | 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. |
| 3 Nulla (fate) per picca, o per vanagloria; ma per umiltà l'uno creda l'altro a se superiore: | 3 Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. |
| 4 Ognuno faccia attenzione non a quello, che torni bene per lui, ma aquello, che torni bene per gli altri. | 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. |
| 5 Si abbiano tra di voi gli stessi sentimenti, che (furono) in Cristo Gesù: | 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, |
| 6 Il quale essendo nella forma di Dio, non credette, che fosse una rapina quel suo essere uguale a Dio: | 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, |
| 7 Ma annichilò se stesso presa la forma di servo, fatto simile agli uomini, e per condizione riconosciuto per uomo. | 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. |
| 8 Umiliò se stesso fatto ubbidiente sino alla morte, e morte di croce. | 8 And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. |
| 9 Per la qual cosa Dio pur lo esaltò, e gli donò un nome sopra qualunque nome: | 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, |
| 10 Onde nel nome di Gesù si pieghi ogni ginocchio in cielo, in terra, e nell'inferno; | 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, |
| 11 E ogni lingua confessi, che il Signore Gesù Cristo o nella gloria di Dio Padre. | 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
| 12 Laonde dilettissimi miei, (siccome sempre siete stati ubbidienti) non solo, come quando io era presente, ma molto più adesso nella mia assenza, con timore, e tremore operate la vostra salute. | 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; |
| 13 Imperocché Dio è, che opera in voi e il volere, e il fare secondo la buona volontà. | 13 for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. |
| 14 Tutto fate senza mormorazioni, e dispute: | 14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, |
| 15 Affinchè siate irreprensibili, e sinceri figliuoli di Dio, scevri di colpa in mezzo ad una nazione prava, e perversa: tra di cui risplendete, come lumininari del mondo, | 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, |
| 16 Portanti la parola di vita per gloria mia nel giorno di Cristo, perché non ho corso in vano, e non ho lavorato in vano. | 16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. |
| 17 Ma e quando io sia offerto in libagione sopra il sagrifizio, e l'ostia della vostra fede, io ne godo, e me ne congratulo con tutti voi. | 17 Even if I am to be poured as a libation upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. |
| 18 E voi di questo stesso godetene, e congratulatevene meco. | 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me. |
| 19 Spero nel Signore Gesù di mandare speditamente da voi Timoteo: affine che io pure stia di buon animo, informato che io sia delle cose vostre. | 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I may be cheered by news of you. |
| 20 Imperocché non ho nessuno così unanime, che con sincera affezione si affanni per voi. | 20 I have no one like him, who will be genuinely anxious for your welfare. |
| 21 Imperocché tutti pensano alle cose loro, non a quelle di Gesù Cristo. | 21 They all look after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. |
| 22 Or è a voi noto il saggio, che egli sia dato di se, mentre, come un figliuolo col padre, ha servito con me al vangelo. | 22 But Timothy's worth you know, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. |
| 23 Lui adunque spero di mandare da voi subito, che avrò veduto lo stato delle cose mie. | 23 I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me; |
| 24 Confido poi nel Signore, che verrò io pure speditamente da voi. | 24 and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself shall come also. |
| 25 Ma ho creduto necessario di mandarvi Epafrodito fratello, e cooperatore, e della stessa milizia con me, e vostro Apostolo, ed il quale ha sovvenuto alle mie necessità: | 25 I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, |
| 26 Conciossiachè bramava ardentemente di riveder tutti voi: ed era afflitto, perché si fosse saputo da voi, come egli era stato malato. | 26 for he has been longing for you all, and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. |
| 27 Imperocché veramente è stato malato fino a morte: ma Dio ha avuto compassione di lui; né solamente di lui, ma anche di me, affinchè non avessi dolore sopra dolore. | 27 Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. |
| 28 Lo ho adunque mandato più speditamente affinchè vedutolo, di nuovo vi rallegriate, e io sia fuori di pena. | 28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. |
| 29 Accoglietelo adunque nel Signore con ogni allegrezza, e tenete in onore tali persone: | 29 So receive him in the Lord with all joy; and honor such men, |
| 30 Conciossiachè per servigio di Cristo si è avvicinato sino alla morte, facendo getto della propria vita per supplire al difetto degli ufficj vostri verso di me. | 30 for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete your service to me. |
