| 1 Venite tutti, ratinatevi insieme, popolo non amabile: | 1 Come together and hold assembly, O shameless nation, |
| 2 Prima che il comando di Dio produca quel giorno quasi turbine, che sperge la polvere; prima che venga sopra di voi l'ira furibonda del Signore; prima che a voi sopravvenga il dì della indegnazione del Signore. | 2 before you are driven away like the drifting chaff, before there comes upon you the fierce anger of the LORD, before there comes upon you the day of the wrath of the LORD. |
| 3 Cercate il Signore, tutti voi umili della terra, voi che avete praticati i suoi precetti: cercate la giustizia, cercate a mansuetudine, se mai poteste mettervi al coperto nel di del furor del Signore; | 3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his commands; seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the wrath of the LORD. |
| 4 Perocché Gaza sarà distrutta, e Ascalone sarà un deserto, Azoto sarà gettata per terra in pieno mezzogiorno, e Accaron sarà estirpata. | 4 For Gaza shall be deserted, and Ashkelon shall become a desolation; Ashdod's people shall be driven out at noon, and Ekron shall be uprooted. |
| 5 Guai a voi, che abitate la corda del mare: popolo di perdizione: la parola del Signore è per te, o Chanaan, terra de' Filistei: io ti devasterò in tal guisa, che non ti resterà abitatore. | 5 Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you till no inhabitant is left. |
| 6 E la corda del mare sarà luogo di riposo pe' pastori, e stalla di pecore, | 6 And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, meadows for shepherds and folds for flocks. |
| 7 E quella corda sarà di quei, che rimarranno della casa di Giuda: ivi avran le loro pasture, e riposeranno la sera nelle case di Ascalon; perocché il Signore Dio loro li visiterà, e faralli tornare dalla schiavitù. | 7 The seacoast shall become the possession of the remnant of the house of Judah, on which they shall pasture, and in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the LORD their God will be mindful of them and restore their fortunes. |
| 8 Io ho udito gli scherni di Moab, e le bestemmie vomitate contro il mio popolo da' figliuoli di Ammon, i quali si sono ingranditi coll'invasione de' suoi confini. | 8 "I have heard the taunts of Moab and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory. |
| 9 Per questo io giuro (dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele),che Moab sarà come Sodoma, e i figliuoli di Ammon come Gomorra, spine secche, e mucchi di sale, e solitudine eterna: le reliquie del popol mio li saccheggeranno, e gli avanzi della mia gente saranno i loro signori. | 9 Therefore, as I live," says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste for ever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them." |
| 10 Avverrà questo ad essi per la loro superbia, perchè hanno bestemmiato,ed hanno insolentito contro il popolo del Signore degli eserciti. | 10 This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they scoffed and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts. |
| 11 Terribile sarà con essi il Signore, e anderà consumando tutti gli dei della terra, e lui adoreranno gli uomini ciascuno nel suo paese; e le isole delle genti. | 11 The LORD will be terrible against them; yea, he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations. |
| 12 Ma voi ancora, o Ethiopi, caderete sotto la mia spada. | 12 You also, O Ethiopians, shall be slain by my sword. |
| 13 Egli stendera la sua mano verso settentrione, e sterminerà gli Assiri, e la speciosa città convertirà in una solitudine, in un paese disabitato, e quasi in un deserto. | 13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry waste like the desert. |
| 14 In mezzo a lei riposeranno i greggi, e tutti i bestiami delle genti, e l'onocrotalo, e il riccio abiteranno ne' suoi cortili: si sentiranno canti sulle finestre, e i corvi sugli architravi, perchè io annichilerò la sua possanza. | 14 Herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the field; the vulture and the hedgehog shall lodge in her capitals; the owl shall hoot in the window, the raven croak on the threshold; for her cedar work will be laid bare. |
| 15 Questa è quella città gloriosa, che di niente temeva, e diceva in cuor suo: Io son quella, ed altra non v'ha dopo di me: come mai è ella diventata un deserto, una tana di fiere? Chiunque passera per mezzo di essa, farà le fi schiate, e batterà mano con mano. | 15 This is the exultant city that dwelt secure, that said to herself, "I am and there is none else." What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! Every one who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist. |
