| 1 E partito il popolo da Haseroth, piantò le tende nel deserto di Pharan, | 1 The LORD said to Moses, |
| 2 Dove il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse: | 2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a leader among them." |
| 3 Manda a considerare la terra di Canaan, la quale io darò a' figliuoli d'Israele, un uomo de'principali per ogni tribù. | 3 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel. |
| 4 Fece Mosè quello che avea comandato il Signore, mandando dal deserto di Pharan uominiprincipali, de' quali i nomi son questi: | 4 And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammu-a the son of Zaccur; |
| 5 Della tribù di Ruben, Sammua figliuolo di Zechur; | 5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori; |
| 6 Della tribù di Simeon, Saphat figliuolo di Huri; | 6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; |
| 7 Della tribù di Giuda, Caleb figliuolo di Jephone; | 7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph; |
| 8 Della tribù d'Issachar, Igal figliuolo di Joseph; | 8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun; |

| 16 Della tribù di Gad, Guel figliuolo di Machi. | 16 These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua. |
| 17 Questi sono i nomi di quelli che Mosè mandò a visitare la terra: e ad Osee figliuolo di Nundiede il nome di Giosuè. | 17 Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up into the Negeb yonder, and go up into the hill country, |
| 18 Mandogli adunque Mosè a visitare la terra di Canaan, e disse loro: Andate versa il mezzodì.E quando sarete giunti alle montagne, | 18 and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many, |
| 19 Considerate la qualità della terra, e il popolo che l'abita, se sia forte, o debole; sepochi di numero, o molti: | 19 and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds, |
| 20 Se la terra stessa sia buona, o cattiva: quali le città; se murate, o senza mura: | 20 and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there is wood in it or not. Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes. |
| 21 Se il terreno sia grasso, o sterile; selvoso, o senza alberi. Fatevi cuore, e portateci de'frutti della terra. Era allora il tempo quando le uve primaticce sono da mangiarsi. | 21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. |
| 22 E quegli essendo andati, disaminaron la terra dal deserto di Sin fino a Rohob, per dove siva in Emath. | 22 They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) |
| 23 Andarono Verso mezzodì, e giunsero ad Hebron, dove stavano Achiman,e Sisai, e Tholmaifigliuoli di Enac: perocché Hebron fu edificata sette anni prima di Tanim città dell'Egitto. | 23 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they brought also some pomegranates and figs. |
| 24 E tirando innanzi fino al Torrente del Grappolo, troncarono un tralcio col suo grappolo, elo portarono due uomini appeso ad un bastone. Preser anche delle melagranate, e de' fichi diquel luogo: | 24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down from there. |
| 25 Gli fu dato questo nome di Nehel Escol, cioè Torrente del Grappolo, per averne indi portatoquel grappolo i figliuoli d'Israele. | 25 At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land. |
| 26 E tornarono gli esploratori dopo quaranta giorni, avendo scorso tutto il paese, | 26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. |
| 27 E andarono a trovar Mosè ed Aronne e tutto il popolo de' figliuoli d'Israele nel deserto diPharan a Cades. E parlarono a lui, e a tutto il popolo, e mostrarono de' frutti della terra: | 27 And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. |
| 28 E fecero il loro racconto,dicendo: Giungemmo nella terra, dove tu ci mandasti, e questaveramente scorre latte e miele, come si può riconoscere da questi frutti: | 28 Yet the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. |
| 29 Ma ella ha abitatori fortissimi, e città grandi e murate. Ivi abbiam veduto la stirpe diEnac. | 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan." |
| 30 Da mezzodì abita Amalec, l'Hetheo, e lo Jebuseo, e l'Amorrheo sulle montagne; il Cananeo poiverso il mare, e intorno al fiume Giordano. | 30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it." |
| 31 Frattanto Caleb per sedare il rumore, che principiava a levarsi nel popolo contro Mosè,disse: Andiamo a prender possesso di quella terra: perocché noi potrem farne acquisto. | 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we." |
| 32 Ma gli altri, che erano andati con lui, dicevano: No, che non possiamo andar contro quelpopolo, perché è più forte di noi. | 32 So they brought to the people of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone, to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. |
| 33 E screditarono presso i figliuoli d'Israele la terra, che avean visitato, dicendo: la terra,che abbiamo scorsa, divora i suoi abitanti: il popolo, che abbiam veduto, è di grandestatura. | 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them." |
| 34 Vi abbiam veduto certi mostri di figliuoli di Enac di razza di giganti paragonati a' qualinoi parevamo locuste. | |
