| 1 IL Signore parlommi, e disse: | 1 The word of the LORD came to me: |
| 2 Figliuolo dell'uomo, profetizza ai profeti d'Israele, i quali fan da profeti, e dirai a costoro, che profetano di lor capriccio: Udite la parola del Signore: | 2 "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, prophesy and say to those who prophesy out of their own minds: 'Hear the word of the LORD!' |
| 3 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Guai a' profeti stolti, i quali seguono il proprio spirito, e non veggon nulla. | 3 Thus says the Lord GOD, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! |
| 4 I tuoi profeti, o Israele, son come volpi ne' deserti. | 4 Your prophets have been like foxes among ruins, O Israel. |
| 5 Voi non siete usciti a mostrar la faccia, né vi siete posti di contro qual muro per la casa d'Israele, per sostenere la pugna nel dì del Signore. | 5 You have not gone up into the breaches, or built up a wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in battle in the day of the LORD. |
| 6 Vane son le loro visioni, e son bugie i loro indovinamenti, e dicono: Il Signore ha detto, mentre il Signore non gli ha mandati; ed ei continuano ad asseverar quello, che han detto. | 6 They have spoken falsehood and divined a lie; they say, 'Says the LORD,' when the LORD has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfil their word. |
| 7 Non è egli vero, che vane sono le vostre visioni, e bugiardi gl'indovinamenti, che avete spacciati? E voi dite: Il Signore ha detto, quando io non ho parlato. | 7 Have you not seen a delusive vision, and uttered a lying divination, whenever you have said, 'Says the LORD,' although I have not spoken?" |
| 8 Per questo il Signore Dio dice così: Perchè voi avete spacciato cose vane, e le vostre visioni son bugiarde, per questo eccomi a voi, dice il Signore Dio. | 8 Therefore thus says the Lord God: "Because you have uttered delusions and seen lies, therefore behold, I am against you, says the Lord GOD. |
| 9 E la mano mia sarà sopra i profeti da visioni vane, e da predizioni bugiarde: non saranno nel ceto del popol mio, e non saranno scritti nella matricola della casa d'Israele, e non entreranno nella terra d'Israele: e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore Dio: | 9 My hand will be against the prophets who see delusive visions and who give lying divinations; they shall not be in the council of my people, nor be enrolled in the register of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter the land of Israel; and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD. |
| 10 Perchè eglino han gabbato il mio popolo, dicendo: Pace, e la pace non è: e quegli fabbricava un muro, e quelli lo intonacavano con loto, senza mistura di paglia. | 10 Because, yea, because they have misled my people, saying, 'Peace,' when there is no peace; and because, when the people build a wall, these prophets daub it with whitewash; |
| 11 Dì a costoro, che intonacano senza mistura, che il muro cadrà: imperocché verrà pioggia, che inonderà, e manderò ad urtarlo pietre smisurate, e una bufera, che lo atterrerà. | 11 say to those who daub it with whitewash that it shall fall! There will be a deluge of rain, great hailstones will fall, and a stormy wind break out; |
| 12 E quando il muro sarà caduto, non si dirà egli a voi: Dov' è l'intonacatura fata da voi? | 12 and when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, 'Where is the daubing with which you daubed it?' |
| 13 Per questo il Signore Dio così dice: Io nella mia indegnazione farò scappar fuori la bufera, e nel furor mio verrà pioggia, che inonderà, e nell'ira mia grosse pietre, che porteranno rovina. | 13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath; and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to destroy it. |
| 14 E distruggerò il muro intonacato da voi senza mistura, e lo agguaglierò al suolo, e i suoi fondamenti saranno scoperti, e cadrà, e quelli periranno con esso; e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore. | 14 And I will break down the wall that you have daubed with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare; when it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it; and you shall know that I am the LORD. |
| 15 E sfogherò il mio sdegno sopra il muro, e sopra quelli, che lo intonacano senza mistura, e dirò a voi: Il muro non è, e que', che lo intonacavano, più non sono. | 15 Thus will I spend my wrath upon the wall, and upon those who have daubed it with whitewash; and I will say to you, The wall is no more, nor those who daubed it, |
| 16 Que' profeti d'Israele, che profetizzavano sopra Gerusalemme, e vedevan per lei visione di pace, e pace non è, dice il Signore Dio. | 16 the prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her, when there was no peace, says the Lord GOD. |
| 17 Ma tu, figliuolo dell'uomo, fissa lo sguardo sulle figliuole del popol tuo, le quali di lor capriccio profetano, e profetizza sopra di esse, | 17 "And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own minds; prophesy against them |
| 18 E dirai: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Guai a quelle, che applicano dei cuscini a tutti i cubiti, e fanno de' guanciali da mettere sotto alle teste di qualunque età per far preda delle anime; e facendo preda delle anime del popol mio, davano vita a quelle anime, | 18 and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the women who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people, and keep other souls alive for your profit? |
| 19 E mi disonoravano dinanzi al mio popolo per un po' d'orzo, e per un tozzo di pane, uccidendo le anime, che non son morte, e facendo vive le anime, che non vivono, spacciando menzogne al popolo mio, che crede alle menzogne. | 19 You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die and keeping alive persons who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies. |
| 20 Per questo cosi parla il Signore Dio: Eccomi ai vostri cuscini, co' quali voi fate preda delle anime, come di uccelli, e io gli straccerò nelle vostre mani, e alle anime, delle quali voi fate preda, darò libero volo. | 20 "Wherefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against your magic bands with which you hunt the souls, and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let the souls that you hunt go free like birds. |
| 21 E romperò i vostri guanciali, e libererò dal poter vostro il mio popolo, e non saran più nelle vostre mani per essere vostra preda. E conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore. | 21 Your veils also I will tear off, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand as prey; and you shall know that I am the LORD. |
| 22 Perchè voi con menzogne avete contristato il cuore del giusto, cui io non contristai; e avete fortificate le braccia all'empio, perchè non si convertisse dal suo mal fare, e vivesse: | 22 Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not disheartened him, and you have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his wicked way to save his life; |
| 23 Per questo non avrete più le vostre false visioni, né spaccerete indovinamenti, e io trarrò dalle vostre mani il mio popolo: e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore. | 23 therefore you shall no more see delusive visions nor practice divination; I will deliver my people out of your hand. Then you will know that I am the LORD." |
