| 1 Rallegrati, o sterile, che non partorisci: canta inni di laude, e di gioia tu, che non eri feconda; perchè molti più sono i figliuoli della abbandonata, che di colei, che avea marito, dice il Signore. | 1 "Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in travail! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of her that is married, says the LORD. |
| 2 Prendi più ampio sito per le tue tende, e dilata senza risparmio le pelli de' tuoi padiglioni: allunga le tue funi, e rinforza i tuoi chiodi; | 2 Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; hold not back, lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. |
| 3 Perocché tu ti farai largo a destra, ed a sinistra: e la tua prole signoreggerà le nazioni, e abiterà le città deserte. | 3 For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left, and your descendants will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities. |
| 4 Non temere: tu non sarai confusa né avrai da arrossire, né da vergonarti perchè della confusione di tua adolescenza non avrai più memoria, né dell'obbrobrio di tua vedovanza più ti sovverrà. | 4 "Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. |
| 5 Imperocché tuo Signore sarà colui, che ti ha creata: il nome suo è, Signor degli eserciti, e il tuo Redentore, il Santo d'Israele sarà chiamato il Dio di tutta la terra. | 5 For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. |
| 6 Perocché come donna abbandonata, e afflitta di spirito ti ha chiamato il Signore, e come sposa repudiata ne' più verdi anni, dice il tuo Dio. | 6 For the LORD has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God. |
| 7 Per un punto, per poco tempo ti ho abbandonata, e con grandi misericordie ti accoglierò. | 7 For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you. |
| 8 Nel momento dell'ira ascosi per poco a te il mio volto, e con sempiterna misericordia ho avuto di te pietà, dice il Signore, che t'ha redenta. | 8 In overflowing wrath for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you, says the LORD, your Redeemer. |
| 9 Questo è adesso per me come quando nei giorni di Noè io giurai di non mandar più sulla terra le acque: cosi ho giurato di non aver ira contro di te, e di non farti rimprovero; | 9 "For this is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you. |
| 10 Imperocché i monti saranno smossi, e i colli vacilleranno, ma la misericordia mia non ritirerassi da te, e la mia alleanza di pace sarà immobile: ha detto il Signore, che ha compassione di te. | 10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you. |
| 11 Poverella sbattuta dalla tempesta, e priva d'ogni consolazione. Ecco, che io disporrò per ordine le tue pietre, e i fondamenti tuoi farò di saffiri. | 11 "O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in antimony, and lay your foundations with sapphires. |
| 12 E farò di jaspide i tuoi baluardi, e le tue porte di pietre scolpite, e tutto il tuo circuito di pietre preziose. | 12 I will make your pinnacles of agate, your gates of carbuncles, and all your wall of precious stones. |
| 13 Tutti i tuoi figliuoli avranno il Signore per maestro, e abbondanza di pace. | 13 All your sons shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the prosperity of your sons. |
| 14 E tu sarai fondata nella giustizia: tu sarai sicura dalla fraude, e non ne avrai da temere: e dallo spavento, che a te non si accosterà. | 14 In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you. |
| 15 Ecco, che il forestiero, che non era con me, verrà, quegli, che una volta era straniero per te, si unirà teco. | 15 If any one stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife with you shall fall because of you. |
| 16 Io ho creato il fabbro, che accende col soffio i carboni per formare uno strumento per l'opera sua, ed io ho creato l'uccisore, che stermina. | 16 Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals, and produces a weapon for its purpose. I have also created the ravager to destroy; |
| 17 Nissun'arme preparata contro di te farà colpo, e giudicherai qualunque e lingua, che resisterà a te in giudizio. | 17 no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, says the LORD." |
| 18 Questa è l'eredità de' servi del Signore, e la loro giustizia è presso di me, dica il Signore. | |
