| 1 Oltre a ciò Hiram re di Tiro mandò suoi ambasciadori a Salomone, avendo udito com' egli era stato unto re in luogo del padre suo: conciossiachè Hiram era stato in ogni tempo amico di Davidde. | 1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father; for Hiram always loved David. |
| 2 E Salomone mandò i suoi ad Hiram, e gli fece dire: | 2 And Solomon sent word to Hiram, |
| 3 E a te noto il desiderio di Davidde mio padre, e come egli non potè edificare la casa al nome del Signore Dio suo a motivo delle guerre, che egli sostenne da tutte le parti, fino a tanto che il Signore abbattè a' piedi di lui i nemici. | 3 "You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the warfare with which his enemies surrounded him, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet. |
| 4 Adesso poi il Signore Dio mio mi ha data pace da ogni parte, e non havvi avversario, nè accidente sinistro. | 4 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune. |
| 5 Per la qual cosa io ho in animo di fabbricare un tempio al nome del Signore Dio mio, conforme il Signore orinò a Davidde mio padre, dicendo: Il tuo figliuolo, cui io surrogherò a te nel tuo trono, egli fabbricherà la casa al nome mio. | 5 And so I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD said to David my father, 'Your son, whom I will set upon your throne in your place, shall build the house for my name.' |
| 6 Ordina adunque, che i tuoi servi taglino per me dei cedri del Libano, e i miei servi saranno insieme co' tuoi servi, e ti pagherò pel salario de' tuoi servi tutto quello, che domanderai: perocché tu ben sai, che non v'ha alcuno del popol mio, che sappia tagliare il legname, come sanno quei di Sidone. | 6 Now therefore command that cedars of Lebanon be cut for me; and my servants will join your servants, and I will pay you for your servants such wages as you set; for you know that there is no one among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians." |
| 7 Avendo adunque sentito Hiram le parole di Salomone, ne ebbe gran piacere, e disse: Benedetto sia oggi il Signore Dio, il quale ha dato a Davidde un figliuolo sapientissimo, per reggere un popolo così numeroso. | 7 When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed be the LORD this day, who has given to David a wise son to be over this great people." |
| 8 E Hiram mandò a dire a Salomone: Ho inteso tutto quello, che tu mi domandi: io farò tutto quel, che tu vuoi riguardo ai legnami di cedro, e di abete. | 8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me; I am ready to do all you desire in the matter of cedar and cypress timber. |
| 9 I miei servi li porteranno dal Libano al mare: e io ne farò formare delle fodere sul mare, per trasmettergli al luogo, che tu mi additerai: e ivi fi farò posare: e tu li farai ritirare: e mi darai quello, che mi bisogna pel vitto della mia casa. | 9 My servants shall bring it down to the sea from Lebanon; and I will make it into rafts to go by sea to the place you direct, and I will have them broken up there, and you shall receive it; and you shall meet my wishes by providing food for my household." |
| 10 Hiram pertanto dava a Salomone del legname di cedro, e di abete quanto ei ne voleva. | 10 So Hiram supplied Solomon with all the timber of cedar and cypress that he desired, |
| 11 E Salomone dava ad Hiram venti mila cori di grano pel mantenimento della sua casa e venti cori d'olio finissimo: tutto questo dava Salomone ad Hiram anno per anno. | 11 while Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat as food for his household, and twenty thousand cors of beaten oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year. |
| 12 E il Signore diede a Salomone la saggezza, conforme gli avea promesso: ed era pace tra Hiram, e Salomone, e fecero tra di loro alleanza. | 12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and the two of them made a treaty. |
| 13 E il re Salomone scelse degli operai da tutto Israele, e furono comandati trenta mila uomini. | 13 King Solomon raised a levy of forced labor out of all Israel; and the levy numbered thirty thousand men. |
| 14 E mandavagli al Libano a vicenda, dieci mila ogni mese: talmente che per due mesi se ne stavano alle case loro: e Adoniram era preposto a questa comandata. | 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month in relays; they would be a month in Lebanon and two months at home; Adoniram was in charge of the levy. |
| 15 E avea Salomone settanta mila uomini, che portavano i pesi, e ottanta mila scarpellini sulla montagna: | 15 Solomon also had seventy thousand burden-bearers and eighty thousand hewers of stone in the hill country, |
| 16 Senza contare quelli, che presedevano a' varj lavori, in numero di tre mila trecento, i quali dirigevano la gente, e i lavoratori. | 16 besides Solomon's three thousand three hundred chief officers who were over the work, who had charge of the people who carried on the work. |
| 17 E il re comandò, che si prendessero pietre grandi, pietre di pregio pe' fondamenti del tempio, e le riquadrassero: | 17 At the king's command, they quarried out great, costly stones in order to lay the foundation of the house with dressed stones. |
| 18 E le tagliarono gli scarpellini di Salomone, e quelli di Hiram: e quelli di Giblos lavorarono il legname, e le pietre per la fabbrica della casa. | 18 So Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the men of Gebal did the hewing and prepared the timber and the stone to build the house. |
