1 Így szólt ekkor az Úr Mózeshez:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 »Szólj Izrael fiaihoz: Kanyarodjanak vissza, és Piháhirót előtt, Migdol és a tenger között üssenek tábort! Beelszefonnal átellenben, vele szemben üssetek tábort a tenger mellett!	2 'Tel the Israelites to turn back and pitch camp in front of Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea,facing Baal-Zephon. You must pitch your camp opposite this place, beside the sea,
3 Ekkor a fáraó azt mondja majd Izrael fiairól: ‘Eltévedtek földemen, körülzárta őket a puszta.’	3 and then Pharaoh wil think, "The Israelites are wandering to and fro in the countryside; the desert hasclosed in on them."
4 Én pedig megkeményítem a szívét, hogy vegyen üldözőbe titeket, s én megdicsőülök a fáraó által és egész hadserege által, és megtudják az egyiptomiak, hogy én vagyok az Úr!« Ők aztán úgy is tettek.	4 I shal then make Pharaoh stubborn and he wil set out in pursuit of them; and I shall win glory formyself at the expense of Pharaoh and his whole army, and then the Egyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.' Andthe Israelites did this.
5 Jelentették eközben az egyiptomiak királyának, hogy megszökött a nép. Megváltozott erre a fáraónak és szolgáinak a szíve a nép iránt, és azt mondták: »Mit is tettünk, hogy elengedtük szolgálatunkból Izraelt?«	5 When Pharaoh king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, he and his officials changed theirattitude towards the people. 'What have we done,' they said, 'allowing Israel to leave our service?'
6 Befogatott tehát harci szekerébe, maga mellé vette egész hadnépét,	6 So Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and set out with his troops,
7 vett hatszáz válogatott harci szekeret, és minden egyéb harci szekeret, amely Egyiptomban volt, és mindegyikbe harcosokat helyezett.	7 taking six hundred of the best chariots and al the other chariots in Egypt, with officers in each.
8 Az Úr pedig megkeményítette a fáraónak, Egyiptom királyának szívét, és ő üldözni kezdte Izrael fiait, jóllehet azok hatalmas kéz oltalma alatt vonultak ki.	8 Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelitesmarched confidently away,
9 Amikor aztán az egyiptomiak követték az előttük haladók lábnyomait, a tenger mellett levő táborban rájuk bukkantak. A fáraó egész lovassága, harciszekerei és egész hadserege ott volt Piháhirót mellett, Baálcefonnal szemben.	9 but the Egyptians, al Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase andcaught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi-Hahiroth, facing Baal-Zephon.
10 Amíg a fáraó közeledett, Izrael fiai felemelték szemüket, és meglátták, hogy az egyiptomiak mögöttük vannak. Erre igen megijedtek. Az Úrhoz kiáltottak,	10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up -- and there were the Egyptians in pursuit of them!The Israelites were terrified and cried out to Yahweh for help.
11 Mózesnek pedig azt mondták: »Talán nem voltak sírok Egyiptomban, hogy ide a pusztába hoztál ki minket meghalni? Miért is tetted azt, hogy kihoztál minket Egyiptomból?	11 To Moses they said, 'Was it for lack of graves in Egypt, that you had to lead us out to die in thedesert? What was the point of bringing us out of Egypt?
12 Nem így hangzott-e a szavunk, amelyet mondtunk neked Egyiptomban: Hagyj minket, hadd szolgáljunk az egyiptomiaknak? Hiszen sokkal jobb volt szolgálni nekik, mint meghalni a pusztában!«	12 Did we not tell you as much in Egypt? Leave us alone, we said, we would rather work for theEgyptians! We prefer to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'
13 Mózes erre azt mondta a népnek: »Ne féljetek, várjatok csak, és meglátjátok az Úr üdvösségét, amelyeket ma cselekedni fog! Mert az egyiptomiakat, akiket most láttok, nem látjátok többé sohasem!	13 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm, and you wil see what Yahweh wil do torescue you today: the Egyptians you see today you wil never see again.
14 Az Úr fog harcolni értetek, és ti el fogtok némulni!«	14 Yahweh will do the fighting for you; al you need to do is to keep calm.'
15 Így szólt ekkor az Úr Mózeshez: »Mit kiáltasz hozzám! Szólj Izrael fiaihoz, hogy induljanak!	15 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Why cry out to me? Tel the Israelites to march on.
16 Te pedig emeld fel botodat, nyújtsd ki kezedet a tenger fölé, és oszd azt kétfelé, hogy szárazon járjanak Izrael fiai a tenger közepén!	16 Your part is to raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that theIsraelites can walk through the sea on dry ground,
17 Én pedig megkeményítem az egyiptomiak szívét, hogy nyomuljanak utánatok, és megdicsőülök a fáraó által, egész hadserege, harci szekerei és lovasai által.	17 while I, for my part, shal make the Egyptians so stubborn that they wil follow them, and I shall winglory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and al his army, chariots and horsemen.
18 Az egyiptomiak meg fogják tudni, hogy én vagyok az Úr – amikor megdicsőülök a fáraó által, harci szekerei és lovasai által!«	18 And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, theEgyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.'
19 Felkelt erre Isten angyala, aki Izrael tábora előtt vonult, és mögéjük ment. Vele együtt elvonult a felhőoszlop is elölről, és a hátuk mögé	19 Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and fol owed behind them.The pil ar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them.
20 állt, az egyiptomiak tábora és az izraeliták tábora közé. Hátrafelé sötét volt a felhő, előre pedig világossá tette az éjszakát, úgyhogy egész éjszaka nem közelíthettek egymáshoz.	20 It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the nightpassed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long.
21 Amikor aztán Mózes kinyújtotta kezét a tenger fölé, az Úr erős és forró szél által, amely egész éjjel fújt, elhajtotta és szárazzá tette a tengert, s a víz kétfelé vált.	21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strongeasterly wind al night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided
22 Erre Izrael fiai bementek a kiszáradt tenger közepébe, miközben a víz olyan volt jobbjuk és baljuk felől, mint a kőfal.	22 and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with wal s of water to right and left ofthem.
23 Ekkor az egyiptomiak üldözni kezdték őket, és bementek utánuk: a fáraó minden lovassága, harci szekere és lovasa bement a tenger közepébe.	23 The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea afterthem.
24 Amikor aztán eljött a hajnali őrváltás ideje, íme, az Úr a tűz- és felhőoszlopból rátekintett az egyiptomiak táborára. Szétzilálta hadseregüket,	24 In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pil ar of fire andcloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion.
25 és kitörte harci szekereik kerekeit, úgyhogy megfeneklettek. Azt mondták ekkor az egyiptomiak: »Fussunk Izrael elől, mert az Úr harcol érettük ellenünk!«	25 He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptianssay, 'Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!'
26 De az Úr ekkor azt mondta Mózesnek: »Nyújtsd ki kezedet a tenger fölé, hogy térjenek vissza a vizek, rá az egyiptomiakra, harci szekereikre és lovasaikra!«	26 Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on theEgyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.'
27 Amikor aztán Mózes kinyújtotta kezét a tenger fölé, az hajnalban visszatért előbbi helyére, a vizek nekizúdultak a menekülő egyiptomiaknak, és az Úr belesodorta őket a habok közepébe.	27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeingEgyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.
28 Így a visszatérő vizek elborították a fáraó egész hadseregének harci szekereit és lovasait, akik utánuk nyomultak a tengerbe: egy sem maradt meg közülük.	28 The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's entire army, whichhad fol owed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left.
29 Izrael fiai azonban átkeltek a kiszáradt tenger közepén, miközben a víz olyan volt jobbjuk és baljuk felől, mint a kőfal.	29 The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with wal s of water to right andleft of them.
30 Így szabadította meg az Úr azon a napon Izraelt az egyiptomiak kezéből.	30 That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptianslying dead on the sea-shore.
31 Amikor aztán látták a tenger partján a meghalt egyiptomiakat, s azt a hatalmas kezet, amellyel az Úr elbánt velük, félte a nép az Urat, és hittek az Úrnak és szolgájának, Mózesnek.	31 When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the peoplerevered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.
