GREEK BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
τεκνον την ζωην του πτωχου μη αποστερησης και μη παρελκυσης οφθαλμους επιδεεις1 My son, rob not the poor man of his livelihood; force not the eyes of the needy to turn away.
ψυχην πεινωσαν μη λυπησης και μη παροργισης ανδρα εν απορια αυτου2 A hungry man grieve not, a needy man anger not;
καρδιαν παρωργισμενην μη προσταραξης και μη παρελκυσης δοσιν προσδεομενου3 Do not exasperate the downtrodden; delay not to give to the needy.
ικετην θλιβομενον μη απαναινου και μη αποστρεψης το προσωπον σου απο πτωχου4 A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor.
απο δεομενου μη αποστρεψης οφθαλμον και μη δως τοπον ανθρωπω καταρασασθαι σε5 From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you;
καταρωμενου γαρ σε εν πικρια ψυχης αυτου της δεησεως αυτου επακουσεται ο ποιησας αυτον6 For if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer.
προσφιλη συναγωγη σεαυτον ποιει και μεγιστανι ταπεινου την κεφαλην σου7 Endear yourself to the assembly; before a ruler bow your head.
κλινον πτωχω το ους σου και αποκριθητι αυτω ειρηνικα εν πραυτητι8 Give a hearing to the poor man, and return his greeting with courtesy;
εξελου αδικουμενον εκ χειρος αδικουντος και μη ολιγοψυχησης εν τω κρινειν σε9 Deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you.
γινου ορφανοις ως πατηρ και αντι ανδρος τη μητρι αυτων και εση ως υιος υψιστου και αγαπησει σε μαλλον η μητηρ σου10 To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; Thus will you be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother.
η σοφια υιους αυτης ανυψωσεν και επιλαμβανεται των ζητουντων αυτην11 Wisdom instructs her children and admonishes those who seek her.
ο αγαπων αυτην αγαπα ζωην και οι ορθριζοντες προς αυτην εμπλησθησονται ευφροσυνης12 He who loves her loves life; those who seek her out win her favor.
ο κρατων αυτης κληρονομησει δοξαν και ου εισπορευεται ευλογει κυριος13 He who holds her fast inherits glory; wherever he dwells, the LORD bestows blessings.
οι λατρευοντες αυτη λειτουργησουσιν αγιω και τους αγαπωντας αυτην αγαπα ο κυριος14 Those who serve her serve the Holy One; those who love her the LORD loves.
ο υπακουων αυτης κρινει εθνη και ο προσεχων αυτη κατασκηνωσει πεποιθως15 He who obeys her judges nations; he who hearkens to her dwells in her inmost chambers.
εαν εμπιστευση κατακληρονομησει αυτην και εν κατασχεσει εσονται αι γενεαι αυτου16 If one trusts her, he will possess her; his descendants too will inherit her.
οτι διεστραμμενως πορευσεται μετ' αυτου εν πρωτοις φοβον και δειλιαν επαξει επ' αυτον και βασανισει αυτον εν παιδεια αυτης εως ου εμπιστευση τη ψυχη αυτου και πειρασει αυτον εν τοις δικαιωμασιν αυτης17 She walks with him as a stranger, and at first she puts him to the test; Fear and dread she brings upon him and tries him with her discipline; With her precepts she puts him to the proof, until his heart is fully with her.
και παλιν επανηξει κατ' ευθειαν προς αυτον και ευφρανει αυτον και αποκαλυψει αυτω τα κρυπτα αυτης18 Then she comes back to bring him happiness and reveal her secrets to him.
εαν αποπλανηθη εγκαταλειψει αυτον και παραδωσει αυτον εις χειρας πτωσεως αυτου19 But if he fails her, she will abandon him and deliver him into the hands of despoilers.
συντηρησον καιρον και φυλαξαι απο πονηρου και περι της ψυχης σου μη αισχυνθης20 Use your time well; guard yourself from evil, and bring upon yourself no shame.
εστιν γαρ αισχυνη επαγουσα αμαρτιαν και εστιν αισχυνη δοξα και χαρις21 There is a sense of shame laden with guilt, and a shame that merits honor and respect.
μη λαβης προσωπον κατα της ψυχης σου και μη εντραπης εις πτωσιν σου22 Show no favoritism to your own discredit; let no one intimidate you to your own downfall.
μη κωλυσης λογον εν καιρω χρειας23 Refrain not from speaking at the proper time, and hide not away your wisdom;
εν γαρ λογω γνωσθησεται σοφια και παιδεια εν ρηματι γλωσσης24 For it is through speech that wisdom becomes known, and knowledge through the tongue's rejoinder.
μη αντιλεγε τη αληθεια και περι της απαιδευσιας σου εντραπηθι25 Never gainsay the truth, and struggle not against the rushing stream.
μη αισχυνθης ομολογησαι εφ' αμαρτιαις σου και μη βιαζου ρουν ποταμου26 Be not ashamed to acknowledge your guilt, but of your ignorance rather be ashamed.
και μη υποστρωσης ανθρωπω μωρω σεαυτον και μη λαβης προσωπον δυναστου27 Do not abase yourself before an impious man, nor refuse to do so before rulers.
εως θανατου αγωνισαι περι της αληθειας και κυριος ο θεος πολεμησει υπερ σου28 Even to the death fight for truth, and the LORD your God will battle for you.
μη γινου θρασυς εν γλωσση σου και νωθρος και παρειμενος εν τοις εργοις σου29 Be not surly in your speech, nor lazy and slack in your deeds.
μη ισθι ως λεων εν τω οικω σου και φαντασιοκοπων εν τοις οικεταις σου30 Be not a lion at home, nor sly and suspicious at work.
μη εστω η χειρ σου εκτεταμενη εις το λαβειν και εν τω αποδιδοναι συνεσταλμενη31 Let not your hand be open to receive and clenched when it is time to give.
