For David, when he changed his countenance before Achimelech, who dismissed him, and he went his way. [1 Kings 21.] | 1 Ipsi David. Judica, Domine, nocentes me ; expugna impugnantes me. |
I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be always in my mouth. | 2 Apprehende arma et scutum, et exsurge in adjutorium mihi. |
In the Lord shall my soul be praised: let the meek hear and rejoice. | 3 Effunde frameam, et conclude adversus eos qui persequuntur me ; dic animæ meæ : Salus tua ego sum. |
O magnify the Lord with me; and let us extol his name together. | 4 Confundantur et revereantur quærentes animam meam ; avertantur retrorsum et confundantur cogitantes mihi mala. |
I sought the Lord, and he heard me; and he delivered me from all my troubles. | 5 Fiant tamquam pulvis ante faciem venti, et angelus Domini coarctans eos. |
Come ye to him and be enlightened: and your faces shall not be confounded. | 6 Fiat via illorum tenebræ et lubricum, et angelus Domini persequens eos. |
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: and saved him out of all his troubles. | 7 Quoniam gratis absconderunt mihi interitum laquei sui ; supervacue exprobraverunt animam meam. |
The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: and shall deliver them. |
O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: blessed is the man that hopeth in him. |
Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. | 10 Omnia ossa mea dicent : Domine, quis similis tibi ? eripiens inopem de manu fortiorum ejus ; egenum et pauperem a diripientibus eum. |
The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good. | 11 Surgentes testes iniqui, quæ ignorabam interrogabant me. |
Come, children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. | 12 Retribuebant mihi mala pro bonis, sterilitatem animæ meæ. |
Who is the man that desireth life: who loveth to see good days? |
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. | 14 Quasi proximum et quasi fratrem nostrum sic complacebam ; quasi lugens et contristatus sic humiliabar. |
Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it. | 15 Et adversum me lætati sunt, et convenerunt ; congregata sunt super me flagella, et ignoravi. |
The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers. | 16 Dissipati sunt, nec compuncti ; tentaverunt me, subsannaverunt me subsannatione ; frenduerunt super me dentibus suis. |
But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. | 17 Domine, quando respicies ? Restitue animam meam a malignitate eorum ; a leonibus unicam meam. |
The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles. | 18 Confitebor tibi in ecclesia magna ; in populo gravi laudabo te. |
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit. |
Many are the afflictions of the just; but out of them all will the Lord deliver them. | 20 Quoniam mihi quidem pacifice loquebantur ; et in iracundia terræ loquentes, dolos cogitabant. |
The Lord keepeth all their bones, not one of them shall be broken. | 21 Et dilataverunt super me os suum ; dixerunt : Euge, euge ! viderunt oculi nostri. |
The death of the wicked is very evil: and they that hate the just shall be guilty. | 22 Vidisti, Domine : ne sileas ; Domine, ne discedas a me. |
The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall offend. | 23 Exsurge et intende judicio meo, Deus meus ; et Dominus meus, in causam meam. |
