1 Poursuivez l’amour et ambitionnez les dons spirituels, la prophétie avant tout.	1 Pursue charity. Be zealous for spiritual things, but only so that you may prophesy.
2 Celui qui parle dans une langue, parle à Dieu mais non aux hommes. Personne ne le comprend quand il dit en esprit des choses mystérieuses.	2 For whoever speaks in tongues, speaks not to men, but to God. For no one understands. Yet by the Spirit, he speaks mysteries.
3 Par contre, quand on prophétise, on affermit les autres, on les encourage et on les instruit.	3 But whoever prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
4 Celui qui parle dans une langue s’affermit lui-même, tandis que le prophète affermit l’Église.	4 Whoever speaks in tongues edifies himself. But whoever prophesies edifies the Church.
5 J’aimerais que tous vous parliez en langues, mais je préférerais vous voir prophétiser. C’est bien mieux de prophétiser que de parler en langues, à moins que quelqu’un puisse les interpréter pour le profit de toute l’Église.	5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but more so to prophesy. For he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless perhaps he interprets, so that the Church may receive edification.
6 Regardez, frères, si je viens chez vous pour vous parler en langues, à quoi cela vous servira-t-il? C’est tout différent si j’ai une révélation pour vous, ou une parole de connaissance, ou une prophétie, ou un enseignement.	6 But now, brothers, if I were to come to you speaking in tongues, how would it benefit you, unless instead I speak to you in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in doctrine?
7 C’est pareil avec un instrument de musique, que vous preniez une flûte ou une cithare. S’il n’y a pas de notes avec leurs intervalles, qui reconnaîtra mon air de flûte ou de cithare?	7 Even those things that are without a soul can make sounds, whether it is a wind or a stringed instrument. But unless they present a distinction within the sounds, how will it be known which is from the pipe and which is from the string?
8 Et si le son de la trompette ne ressemble à rien, qui va courir à son poste de combat?	8 For example, if the trumpet made an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for battle?
9 C’est la même chose pour vous avec vos langues: qui va comprendre ce que vous avez dit, si vous ne dites rien clairement? Vous aurez parlé en l’air.	9 So it is with you also, for unless you utter with the tongue in plain speech, how will it be known what is said? For then you would be speaking into the air.
10 Il y a bien des langues dans le monde et chacune a ses mots.	10 Consider that there are so many different kinds of languages in this world, and yet none is without a voice.
11 Mais si je ne connais pas le sens des mots, je serai un étranger pour celui qui parle et lui sera un étranger pour moi.	11 Therefore, if I do not understand the nature of the voice, then I shall be like a foreigner to the one with whom I am speaking; and he who is speaking will be like a foreigner to me.
12 Tenez-en compte, et puisque vous vous intéressez aux dons spirituels, cherchez ceux qui construisent l’Église, de sorte que vous ne manquiez de rien.	12 So it is with you also. And since you are zealous for what is spiritual, seek the edification of the Church, so that you may abound.
13 Si quelqu’un parle dans une langue, qu’il demande à Dieu de lui donner un interprète.	13 For this reason, too, whoever speaks in tongues, let him pray for the interpretation.
14 Si je prie en langues, mon esprit est en prière mais mon intelligence reste vide.	14 So, if I pray in tongues, my spirit prays, but my mind is without fruit.
15 Est-ce bien? Je prierai en esprit, mais mon intelligence aussi devra prier. Je louerai Dieu en esprit, mais mon intelligence aussi le louera.	15 What is next? I should pray with the spirit, and also pray with the mind. I should sing psalms with the spirit, and also recite psalms with the mind.
16 Si tu rends grâce en esprit, comment fera le débutant? Va-t-il dire “amen” après ton action de grâces? Il ne sait pas ce que tu as dit.	16 Otherwise, if you have blessed only with the spirit, how can someone, in a state of ignorance, add an “Amen” to your blessing? For he does not know what you are saying.
17 Tu as fait une belle action de grâces, mais cela ne lui a rien apporté.	17 In this case, certainly, you give thanks well, but the other person is not edified.
18 Je rends grâces à Dieu de ce que je parle en langues mieux que vous tous.	18 I thank my God that I speak in tongues for all of you.
19 Mais quand l’Église est réunie, j’aime mieux dire cinq paroles qui ont du sens et qui profitent à tous plutôt que 10 000 en langues.	19 But in the Church, I prefer to speak five words from my mind, so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in tongues.
20 Frères, ne raisonnez pas comme des enfants. Pour faire le mal, oui, restez comme des enfants, mais raisonnez comme des adultes.	20 Brothers, do not choose to have the minds of children. Instead, be free of malice like infants, but be mature in your minds.
21 Dans la Loi il est écrit: Je me servirai de gens d’autres langues et je parlerai à ce peuple par ces bouches étrangères. Mais même ainsi ils ne m’entendront pas - parole du Seigneur.	21 It is written in the law: “I will speak to this people with other tongues and other lips, and even so, they will not heed me, says the Lord.”
22 Donc le parler en langues est un signe, non pour ceux qui croient, mais pour les non-croyants, alors que la prophétie est pour ceux qui croient, et non pour les incroyants.	22 And so, tongues are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers; and prophecies are not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Supposez pourtant que des débutants ou des incroyants arrivent quand l’Église entière est rassemblée, et que tous parlent en langues: que vont-ils dire? C’est du délire!	23 If then, the entire Church were to gather together as one, and if all were to speak in tongues, and then ignorant or unbelieving persons were to enter, would they not say that you were insane?
24 Mais supposez que vous êtes tous en train de prophétiser, et voilà qu’arrive un débutant ou un incroyant. Tous aussitôt l’interpellent et lui disent ses vérités,	24 But if everyone prophesies, and one who is ignorant or unbelieving enters, he may be convinced by it all, because he understands it all.
25 et lui, voyant découverts les secrets de sa conscience, il tombe le visage contre terre, il adore Dieu et il reconnaît: Dieu est réellement au milieu de vous!	25 The secrets of his heart are then made manifest. And so, falling to his face, he would adore God, proclaiming that God is truly among you.
26 Quelle est la conclusion, frères? Toutes les fois que vous vous réunissez, chacun peut intervenir avec un psaume, un enseignement, une révélation, un parler en langues, une interprétation de ce qui est dit en langues… Mais que tout soit constructif.	26 What is next, brothers? When you gather together, each one of you may have a psalm, or a doctrine, or a revelation, or a language, or an interpretation, but let everything be done for edification.
27 Qu’on parle en langues, soit, mais pas plus de deux ou trois, et avec un temps limité, et qu’il y ait un interprète.	27 If anyone is speaking in tongues, let there be only two, or at most three, and then in turn, and let someone interpret.
28 Si personne n’est là pour interpréter, que ces gens se taisent dans l’assemblée et gardent leur parler en langues pour eux-mêmes et pour Dieu.	28 But if there is no one to interpret, he should remain silent in the church, then he may speak when he is alone with God.
29 Pour les prophètes, deux ou trois peuvent parler, et les autres ensuite feront le discernement.	29 And let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.
30 Si l’un de ceux qui sont restés assis reçoit une révélation, le premier se taira.	30 But then, if something is revealed to another who is sitting, let the first one become silent.
31 Vous pourriez tous prophétiser, mais l’un après l’autre, de sorte que tous apprennent et que tous soient motivés.	31 For you are all able to prophesy one at a time, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 Les esprits de la prophétie obéissent aux prophètes,	32 For the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 car l’œuvre de Dieu n’est pas le désordre mais la paix. Comme dans toutes les Églises des saints…	33 And God is not of dissension, but of peace, just as I also teach in all the churches of the saints.
34 Que les femmes se taisent dans les Églises. Leur rôle n’est pas de prendre la parole, mais d’obéir, comme il est dit dans la Loi.	34 Women should be silent in the churches. For it is not permitted for them to speak; but instead, they should be subordinate, as the law also says.
35 Si elles veulent en savoir davantage, elles demanderont à leur mari à la maison.	35 And if they want to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church.
36 Est-ce de chez vous que la parole de Dieu est venue ou êtes-vous les seuls chez qui elle est arrivée?	36 So now, did the Word of God proceed from you? Or was it sent to you alone?
37 Ceux d’entre vous qui passent pour prophètes ou spirituels reconnaîtront que ce que je vous écris est un ordre du Seigneur.	37 If anyone seems to be a prophet or a spiritual person, he should understand these things which I am writing to you, that these things are the commandments of the Lord.
38 Et si quelqu’un veut l’ignorer, lui aussi sera ignoré.	38 If anyone does not recognize these things, he should not be recognized.
39 Donc frères, aspirez à la prophétie sans pour autant interdire qu’on parle en langues,	39 And so, brothers, be zealous to prophesy, and do not prohibit speaking in tongues.
40 mais que tout se passe de façon digne et ordonnée.	40 But let everything be done respectfully and according to proper order.
