1 Yahvé parla à Moïse et à Aaron, il leur dit:	1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
2 “Voici ce que vous direz aux Israélites: Parmi toutes les bêtes qui sont sur la terre, voici celles que vous mangerez.	2 Say to the sons of Israel: These are the animals that you ought to eat out of all the living things of the earth.
3 Vous pourrez manger de tout animal qui a le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu et qui rumine,	3 All that has a divided hoof, and that chews over again, among the cattle, you shall eat.
4 mais vous ne mangerez pas de ceux qui ruminent seulement, ou qui ont seulement le sabot divisé. C’est le cas du chameau, qui rumine, mais dont le sabot n’est pas divisé: il sera impur pour vous.	4 But whatever certainly chews over again, but has a hoof that is not divided, such as the camel and others, these you shall not eat, and you shall consider them to be among what is unclean.
5 De même la marmotte, qui rumine, mais qui n’a pas le sabot divisé: elle sera impure pour vous.	5 The rock rabbit which chews over again, and whose hoof is not divided, is unclean,
6 De même le lièvre, qui rumine, mais qui n’a pas le sabot divisé,: il sera impur pour vous.	6 and so also is the hare, for it too chews over again, yet its hoof is not divided,
7 De même le porc, qui a le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu, mais qui ne rumine pas: il sera impur pour vous.	7 and also the swine, which, though its hoof is divided, does not chew over again.
8 Vous ne mangerez pas leur viande et vous ne toucherez pas à leur cadavre, ils seront impurs à vos yeux.	8 The flesh of these you shall not eat, nor shall you touch their carcasses, because they are unclean to you.
9 Parmi tous les animaux qui vivent dans l’eau, voici ceux que vous pourrez manger: vous mangerez tous ceux qui ont des écailles et qui vivent, soit dans la mer, soit dans les rivières.	9 These are the things that breed in the waters, and which it is lawful to eat. All that has little fins and scales, as much in the sea, as in the rivers and ponds, you shall eat.
10 Mais vous aurez en horreur, parmi tout ce qui vit et s’agite dans les eaux, tous les êtres vivants qui n’ont ni nageoires ni écailles, aussi bien dans la mer que dans les rivières.	10 But whatever does not have fins and scales, of those things that live and move in the waters, shall be abominable to you,
11 Vous les aurez en horreur, vous ne mangerez pas leur chair et vous aurez en dégoût leur cadavre.	11 and detestable; their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall avoid.
12 Vous aurez en horreur tout ce qui vit et s’agite dans l’eau et qui n’a ni nageoires ni écailles.	12 All that does not have fins and scales in the waters shall be polluted.
13 Parmi les oiseaux, voici ceux que vous aurez en horreur, ceux que vous ne mangerez pas, car ils sont répugnants:	13 These are those things among the birds which you must not eat, and which are to be avoided by you: the eagle, and the griffin, and the osprey,
14 l’aigle et le vautour, quelle que soit leur espèce,	14 and the kite, as well as the vulture, according to their kind.
15 toutes les espèces de corbeaux,	15 and all that is of the raven kind, according to their likeness,
16 l’autruche, le chat-huant, la mouette et toutes les sortes d’éperviers,	16 the ostrich, and the owl, and the gull, and the hawk, according to its kind,
17 le hibou, le cormoran et la chouette,	17 the owl, and the sea bird, and the ibis,
18 le cygne, le pélican et le vautour royal,	18 and the swan, and the pelican, and the marsh hen,
19 la cigogne, toutes les espèces de hérons, la huppe et la chauve-souris.	19 the heron, and the plover according to its kind, the crested hoopoe, and also the bat.
20 Vous aurez en horreur tous les insectes ailés qui marchent à quatre pattes.	20 Of all that flies, whatever steps upon four feet shall be abominable to you.
21 Mais parmi tous les insectes ailés qui marchent à quatre pattes, vous pourrez manger ceux qui ont des jambes plus hautes que les autres pattes et qui sautent sur la terre.	21 But whatever certainly walks upon four feet, and also has longer legs behind, with which it hops upon the earth,
22 C’est ainsi que vous pourrez manger les sauterelles de toutes espèces, la Solam comme la Hargol ou la Hagab.	22 you shall eat, such as the beetle in its kind, and the cricket, and grasshopper, and the locust, each one according to its kind.
23 Mais vous aurez en horreur tous les autres insectes ailés qui marchent à quatre pattes.	23 But among flying things, whatever has only four feet shall be detestable to you.
24 Tous ces animaux vous rendront impurs et celui qui touchera leur cadavre sera impur jusqu’au soir.	24 And whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be defiled, and he shall be unclean until evening.
25 Si quelqu’un touche leur cadavre, il lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu’au soir.	25 And if it will be necessary to carry any of these dead things, he shall wash his clothes, and he shall be unclean until the sun sets.
26 Tout animal qui a le sabot divisé mais qui n’a pas le pied fourchu et qui ne rumine pas, sera impur à vos yeux. Si quelqu’un le touche il sera impur.	26 Every animal that certainly has a hoof, but which is not divided, nor does it chew over again, shall be unclean. And whoever will have touched it shall be contaminated.
27 Vous regarderez comme impur tout quadrupède qui marche sur la plante des pieds. Si quelqu’un touche son cadavre, il sera impur jusqu’au soir.	27 Whatever walks upon its hands, out of all the animals that advance on all fours, shall be unclean. Whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be polluted until evening.
28 Et si quelqu’un transporte son cadavre, il lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu’au soir. Ces animaux seront impurs à vos yeux.	28 And whoever will have carried this kind of carcass shall wash his clothes, and he shall be unclean until evening. For all these are unclean to you.
29 Parmi les petites bêtes qui rampent sur la terre, voici celles qui seront impures à vos yeux: la belette, la souris, toutes les espèces de lézards,	29 Likewise, these shall be considered among the polluted things, out of all that moves upon the earth: the weasel, and the mouse, and the crocodile, each one according to its kind,
30 la musaraigne, le caméléon, la salamandre, le lézard vert et la taupe.	30 the shrew, and the chameleon, and the gecko, and the lizard, and the mole.
31 Tous ces reptiles seront impurs à vos yeux. Si quelqu’un touche leur cadavre, il sera impur jusqu’au soir.	31 All these are unclean. Whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be unclean until evening.
32 Tout objet sur lequel tombera leur cadavre sera impur, que ce soit un objet en bois ou en cuir, un vêtement, un sac ou tout autre objet usuel. On le mettra dans l’eau et il restera impur jusqu’au soir, après quoi il sera pur.	32 And anything upon which something from their carcasses will have fallen shall be defiled, whether it is a vessel of wood, or a garment, or skins, or haircloths, or anything by which work is done. These shall be dipped in water and shall be defiled until evening, but then afterwards these shall be clean.
33 S’il en tombe un morceau dans un vase de terre, tout ce qui sera à l’intérieur de ce vase sera impur et vous le briserez.	33 But an earthen vessel, into which something from these will fall, shall be defiled; and therefore it is to be broken.
34 S’il en tombe dans la nourriture, même dans la soupe, cette nourriture sera impure. S’il en tombe dans une boisson, quel que soit le vase qui la contienne, la boisson sera impure.	34 Any of the foods that you eat, if water from such a vessel will have been poured upon it, it shall be unclean. And every liquid which one may drink from such a vessel shall be unclean.
35 Tout objet sur lequel il en tombera quelque chose sera impur. Le four et le vase avec son couvercle seront détruits, ils sont impurs et vous les tiendrez pour tels.	35 And if anything from among these kinds of dead things has fallen upon it, it shall be unclean, whether it be an oven, or a pot with feet, these shall be unclean and shall be destroyed.
36 Mais les sources et les citernes dans lesquelles on ramasse l’eau resteront pures. Quiconque touchera leur cadavre sera impur.	36 Yet truly, fountains and cisterns, and all reservoirs of water shall be clean. Whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be defiled.
37 S’il tombe quelque chose de leur cadavre sur du grain qui doit être semé, la semence restera pure.	37 If it falls upon seed grain, it shall not defile it.
38 Mais si le grain a été mis dans l’eau et qu’il y tombe quelque chose de leur cadavre, vous le tiendrez pour impur.	38 But if anyone has poured water upon the seed grain, and afterwards it was touched by the carcasses, it shall be immediately defiled.
39 Si l’un des animaux qui vous servent de nourriture meurt, celui qui touchera le cadavre sera impur jusqu’au soir.	39 If any animals will have died, from which it is lawful for you to eat, whoever will have touched its carcass shall be unclean until evening.
40 Celui qui mangera de son cadavre lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu’au soir, celui qui transportera le cadavre lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu’au soir.	40 And whoever will have eaten or carried anything of these shall wash his clothes, and he shall be unclean until evening.
41 Vous aurez en horreur tout reptile qui rampe sur la terre, vous n’en mangerez point.	41 All that creeps across the earth shall be abominable, neither shall it taken up as food.
42 On ne mangera pas ceux qui se traînent sur le ventre ni ceux qui rampent sur la terre avec leurs quatre pieds ou avec un grand nombre de pieds, vous les aurez en horreur.	42 Whatever advances by four feet upon the chest, or that has many feet, or that drags across the soil, you shall not eat, because it is abominable.
43 Ne souillez pas votre personne avec tous ces reptiles qui rampent, ne vous rendez pas impurs à cause d’eux, et ne les laissez pas vous rendre impurs.	43 Do not be willing to contaminate your souls, nor shall you touch any of these, lest you become unclean.
44 Car je suis Yahvé, votre Dieu; vous vous sanctifierez et vous serez saints, car moi je suis Saint. Vous ne vous souillerez pas avec tous ces reptiles qui rampent sur la terre,	44 For I am the Lord your God. Be holy, for I am Holy. Do not pollute your souls with any creeping thing, which moves across the land.
45 car je suis Yahvé qui vous ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte, pour être votre Dieu. Vous serez saints parce que je suis Saint.	45 For I am the Lord, who led you away from the land of Egypt, so that I would be your God; you shall be holy, for I am Holy.
46 Voilà donc la loi touchant les quadrupèdes, les oiseaux, tous les êtres vivants qui vivent dans l’eau et tous ceux qui rampent sur la terre.	46 This is the law of animals and flying things, and of every living soul that moves in the waters or creeps upon the land,
47 Vous ferez la différence entre ce qui est impur et ce qui est pur, entre l’animal que l’on peut manger et celui que l’on ne doit pas manger.”	47 so that you may know the difference between clean and unclean, and so that you may know what you ought to eat, and what you ought to refuse.
