Prima lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Raccomando dunque, prima di tutto, che si facciano suppliche, orazioni, voti, ringraziamenti per tutti gli uomini:	1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
2 pei re e per le autorità costituite, affinchè possiamo menare una vita pacifica e tranquilla con tutta pietà e onestà.	2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
3 E questa è cosa buona e gradita nel cospetto del Salvatore nostro Dio,	3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
4 il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini si salvino e giungano alla conoscenza della verità.	4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
5 Or v'è un solo Dio, un solo mediatore tra Dio e gli uomini, l'uomo Cristo Gesù,	5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
6 il quale diede se stesso in redenzione per tutti, attestato a suo tempo,	6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
7 e per attestar di lui io sono stato costituito predicatore e apostolo (dico la verità, non mentisco), dottore delle Genti nella fede e nella verità.	7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
8 Voglio dunque che gli uomini preghino in ogni luogo, alzando mani pure, senza ira, nè dispute.	8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
9 Così pure voglio che le donne si vestano in modo decente, con verecondia e modestia, non riccioli, oro e perle e vesti preziose,	9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
10 ma come s'addice a donne che fan professione di pietà, con opere buone.	10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
11 La donna impari in silenzio con perfetta sottomissione.	11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
12 Non permetto alla donna d'insegnare, nè di comandare all'uomo, ma deve stare in silenzio.	12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
13 Fu infatti prima creato Adamo e poi Èva;	13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
14 e non fu sedotto Adamo, ma la donna fu sedotta fino alla prevaricazione.	14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
15 Ma pure si salverà diventando madre, se rimarrà nella fede e nella carità e nella santità con modestia.	15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
