Terza lettera di Giovanni 1

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il presbitero al caro Gaio, che io amo nella verità.	1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Carissimo, ti auguro che tutto vada bene e che tu goda buona salute, come va bene la tua anima.	2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.
3 Ho provato infatti gran gioia quando sono venuti alcuni fratelli e hanno reso testimonianza alla tua verità, come tu cammini nella verità.	3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.
4 Non ho gioia maggiore di questa: sentire che i miei figli camminano nella verità.	4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.
5 Carissimo, tu ti comporti fedelmente in ciò che fai verso i fratelli pur essendo forestieri.	5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.
6 Essi hanno reso testimonianza alla tua carità davanti alla chiesa. Tu farai bene se li provvederai del necessario per il viaggio, in modo degno di Dio.	6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.
7 Infatti si sono messi in cammino per il nome di Gesù, senza ricevere nulla dai pagani.	7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:
8 Noi quindi dobbiamo sostenere tali uomini per mostrarci collaboratori della verità.	8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.
9 Ho scritto qualcosa alla chiesa; ma Diotrefe, che ambisce il primo posto tra loro, non ci riconosce.	9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.
10 Per questo, quando verrò, gli rimprovererò le azioni che compie accusandoci ingiustamente con parole malvagie e, non contento di ciò, non vuole accogliere i fratelli e impedisce di farlo a quelli che vogliono accoglierli e li espelle dalla chiesa.	10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.
11 Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi fa il bene è da Dio, chi fa il male non ha veduto Dio.	11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.
12 A Demetrio è data testimonianza da tutti, anche dalla stessa verità. Noi pure gli diamo testimonianza e tu sai che la nostra testimonianza è vera.	12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.
13 Avrei molte cose da scriverti, ma non voglio farlo per mezzo d'inchiostro e di penna.	13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.
14 Spero invece di vederti presto e ci parleremo a faccia a faccia.	14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.
15 La pace sia con te. Ti salutano gli amici. Saluta gli amici singolarmente.	15 Peace be with you; greetings from your friends; greet each of our friends by name.
