Sirach 36

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 O God of all, take pity on us, and look with favor on us, and show us the light of your compassion.	1 Abbi pietà di noi, o Signore, Dio di tutte le cose, e manda il tuo terrore su tutte le nazioni.
2 And send your fear upon the Gentiles, who have not sought you, so that they may acknowledge that there is no God except you, and so that they may declare your great deeds.	2 Leva la tua mano contro le nazioni straniere, perché vedano la tua potenza.
3 Lift up your hand over unbelieving nations, so that they may see your power.	3 Come davanti a loro hai mostrato in noi la tua santità, così davanti a noi mostra in loro la tua potenza.
4 For just as, in their sight, you have been sanctified in us, so also, in our sight, you will be magnified in them.	4 Riconoscano te come noi ti abbiamo riconosciuto, perché non c'è Dio al di fuori di te, o Signore.
5 So may they know you, as we also have known you. For there is no God apart from you, O Lord.	5 Rinnova i segni e ripeti i miracoli, glorifica la tua mano ed il tuo braccio destro.
6 Renew your signs, and work new wonders.	6 Desta il tuo furore e riversa la tua ira, distruggi l'avversario e stermina il nemico.
7 Glorify your hand and your right arm.	7 Accèlera i tempi e ricòrdati del giuramento, perché si raccontino i tuoi prodigi.
8 Stir up your fury, and pour out your wrath.	8 Nel fuoco dell'ira si consumi chi era stato risparmiato, quanti maltrattano il tuo popolo trovino la perdizione.
9 Take away our adversary, and afflict our enemy.	9 Stritola le teste dei prìncipi stranieri che dicono: "Non c'è nessuno al di fuori di noi".
10 Hasten the time, and remember the end, so that they may declare your miracles.	10 Raccogli tutte le tribù di Giacobbe e prendine possesso come una volta.
11 Let those who escape be devoured by the wrath of fire. And let those who harass your people find perdition.	11 Abbi pietà, Signore, del popolo chiamato col tuo nome, d'Israele, che hai adottato come primo nato.
12 Crush the head of the leaders of the enemies, for they say: “There is no other beside us.”	12 Abbi compassione della città del tuo santuario, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.
13 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, so that they may acknowledge that there is no God except you, and so that they may declare your great deeds. And you will inherit them, as from the beginning.	13 Riempi Sion con la lode delle tue grandi imprese e il tuo tempio con la tua gloria.
14 Take pity on your people, over whom your name has been invoked, and on Israel, whom you have treated as your firstborn.	14 Riconosci ora quelli che hai creato in origine e suscita le profezie che furono fatte nel tuo nome.
15 Take pity on Jerusalem, the city of your sanctification, the city of your rest.	15 Da' la ricompensa a quanti ti attendono, per dare ragione ai tuoi profeti.
16 Fill Zion with your ineffable words, and fill your people with your glory.	16 Esaudisci, Signore, la supplica dei tuoi servi per la benevolenza che hai con il tuo popolo.
17 Give testimony to those who have been your creations from the beginning, and lift up the prophecies which the former prophets spoke in your name.	17 Riconoscano tutti sopra la terra che tu, Signore, sei il Dio dei secoli.
18 Give a reward to those who endure for you, so that your prophets may be found to be faithful. And heed the prayers of your servants,	18 Lo stomaco mangia ogni cibo, ma qualche cibo piace più dell'altro.
19 in accord with the blessing of Aaron over your people. And direct us in the way of justice, and let all who inhabit the earth know that you are God, the Beholder of all ages.	19 Come la gola sente il sapore della selvaggina, così il cuore che riflette, le parole bugiarde.
20 The belly can devour any food, yet one meal is better than another.	20 Il cuore perverso darà dolore, ma l'uomo sperimentato lo ricambierà.
21 The palate tests the meat of wild animals, and the understanding heart tests false words.	21 La donna può accettare qualsiasi marito, ma una moglie non è uguale all'altra.
22 A corrupt heart will cause grief, and a man of experience will resist it.	22 La bellezza d'una donna rallegra il volto, supera ogni altro desiderio dell'uomo.
23 A woman can receive any male, yet one daughter is better than another.	23 Se nella sua lingua c'è bontà e gentilezza, suo marito non è come gli altri uomini.
24 The beauty of a wife cheers the face of her husband, and rises above his desire, above all the desires of man.	24 Chi prende moglie comincia la sua fortuna, ha un aiuto che gli è simile e una colonna d'appoggio.
25 If she offers healing words, then she both comforts and shows mercy; and so her husband is not like other men.	25 Dove manca la siepe, la proprietà è saccheggiata, così dove non c'è moglie, l'uomo erra e geme.
26 He who holds to a good wife establishes a possession. She is a helper in agreement with him, and she is a pillar of rest.	26 Chi avrà fiducia in un soldato girovago, che passa da una città all'altra?
27 Where there is no hedge, a possession will be trampled. And where there is no wife, he will mourn her absence.	27 Così è per l'uomo che non ha un nido e che alloggia là dove sopraggiunge la sera.
28 Who will trust one who has no nest, and who conceals himself wherever his course may take him, like a well-equipped robber passing from city to city?
