Joshua 4

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua and said,	1 OR, quando tutta la gente ebbe finito di passare il Giordano perciocchè il Signore avea detto a Giosuè:
2 'Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and give them this order,	2 Pigliatevi dodici uomini del popolo, un uomo di ciascuna tribù;
3 "Here, from mid-Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet were standing, take twelve stones; carrythem with you and set them down in the camp where you pass the night." '	3 e comandate loro, dicendo: Toglietevi di qui, di mezzo del Giordano, dal luogo dove i piedi de’ sacerdoti stanno fermi, dodici pietre, e portatele di là dal Giordano con voi, e posatele nell’alloggiamento, nel quale voi alloggerete questa notte;
4 Joshua cal ed the twelve men whom he had selected from the Israelites, one man from each tribe,	4 Giosuè chiamò i dodici uomini, i quali egli avea ordinati d’infra i figliuoli d’Israele, un uomo di ciascuna tribù,
5 and Joshua said to them, 'Go on ahead of the ark of Yahweh your God into mid-Jordan, and each ofyou take one stone on his shoulder, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel,	5 e disse loro: Passate dinanzi all’Arca del Signore Iddio vostro, in mezzo al Giordano, e levisi ciascun di voi in ispalla una pietra, secondo il numero delle tribù de’ figliuoli d’Israele.
6 to make this a sign among you; and when, in the future, your children ask you, "What do these stonesmean for you?"	6 Acciocchè questo sia un segnale nel mezzo di voi. Quando i vostri figliuoli vi domanderanno nel tempo a venire, dicendo: Che voglion dire queste pietre che avete qui?
7 you will then tell them, "The waters of the Jordan separated before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh;when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the river separated. These stones are an everlasting reminder of thisto the Israelites."	7 Voi direte loro: Come l’acque del Giordano vennero meno d’innanzi all’Arca del Patto del Signore, quando ella passò il Giordano; e che queste pietre sono state poste per ricordanza a’ figliuoli d’Israele, in perpetuo.
8 The Israelites did as Joshua ordered; they took twelve stones from mid-Jordan corresponding to thenumber of the tribes of Israel, as Yahweh had told Joshua; they carried them over to the camp and set themdown there.	8 E i figliuoli d’Israele fecero come Giosuè avea comandato; e tolsero, secondo che il Signore avea detto a Giosùe, dodici pietre di mezzo al Giordano, secondo il numero delle tribù de’ figliuoli d’Israele; e le portarono di là dal Giordano con loro, all’alloggiamento, e quivi le posarono.
9 Joshua then erected twelve stones in mid-Jordan, on the spot where the feet of the priests carrying theark of the covenant had stood; and they are stil there today.	9 Giosuè ancora rizzò dodici pietre in mezzo al Giordano, nel luogo stesso dove i piedi de’ sacerdoti che portavano l’Arca del Patto s’erano fermati; le quali son restate quivi infino a questo giorno
10 The priests carrying the ark stood stil in mid-Jordan, until everything had been done that Yahweh hadordered Joshua to tel the people (in accordance with everything that Moses had ordered Joshua); and thepeople hurried across.	10 I sacerdoti adunque che portavano l’Arca stettero ritti in mezzo al Giordano, finchè tutte le cose che il Signore avea comandate a Giosuè di dire al popolo furono finite, secondo tutto ciò che Mosè avea comandato a Giosuè; e il popolo si affrettò di passare.
11 When the people had finished crossing, the ark of Yahweh then crossed, with the priests, to the headof the people.	11 E, quando tutto il popolo ebbe finito di passare, l’Arca del Signore passò anche essa, e i sacerdoti si misero dinanzi al popolo.
12 The sons of Reuben, the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed in battle formation at thehead of the Israelites, as Moses had told them.	12 Or i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, e la metà della tribù di Manasse, passarono in armi dinanzi a’ figliuoli d’Israele, secondo che Mosè avea loro detto.
13 Some forty thousand warriors in arms, they crossed in Yahweh's presence, ready for battle, towardsthe plain of Jericho.	13 Essi passarono, nelle campagne di Gerico, davanti al Signore, alla guerra, in numero d’intorno a quarantamila combattenti.
14 That day, Yahweh made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, who respected him as they hadrespected Moses, as long as he lived.	14 In quel giorno il Signore magnificò Giosuè davanti agli occhi di tutto Israele; ed essi lo temettero, come aveano temuto Mosè, tutti i giorni della sua vita.
15 Yahweh said to Joshua,	15 Or il Signore avea parlato a Giosuè, dicendo:
16 'Order the priests carrying the ark of the Testimony to come up out of the Jordan.'	16 Comanda a’ sacerdoti che portano l’Arca della Testimonianza, che salgano fuor del Giordano.
17 And Joshua gave the order to the priests, 'Come up, out of the Jordan!'	17 E Giosuè comandò, e disse a’ sacerdoti: Salite fuor del Giordano.
18 Now, when the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of mid-Jordan, nosooner had the soles of the priests' feet touched solid ground, than the waters of the Jordan returned to their bedand ran on, in spate as before.	18 E avvenne, che quando i sacerdoti che portavano l’Arca del Patto del Signore furono saliti di mezzo al Giordano, come prima le piante de’ lor piedi ne furono spiccate, e poste in su l’asciutto, le acque del Giordano ritornarono al luogo loro, e corsero come per addietro, sopra tutte le rive di esso.
19 It was the tenth day of the first month when the people came up from the Jordan and made their campat Gilgal, on the eastern border of Jericho.	19 Così il popolo salì fuor del Giordano, nel decimo giorno del primo mese, e si accampò in Ghilgal, dal lato orientale di Gerico
20 As regards those twelve stones, which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set them up at Gilgal.	20 E Giosuè rizzò in Ghilgal quelle dodici pietre, che aveano tolte dal Giordano.
21 He then said to the Israelites, 'When, in the future, your children ask their fathers, "What are thesestones?"	21 E disse a’ figliuoli d’Israele in questa maniera: Quando i vostri figliuoli nel tempo a venire domanderanno i lor padri, dicendo: Che voglion dire queste pietre?
22 you wil explain to your children, "Israel crossed this Jordan dry-shod.	22 Voi il farete assapere a’ vostri figliuoli, dicendo: Israele passò questo Giordano per l’asciutto.
23 For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan in front of you until you had crossed, just asYahweh your God did to the Sea of Reeds, which he dried up before us until we had crossed it;	23 Conciossiachè il Signore Iddio vostro abbia seccate le acque del Giordano davanti a voi, finchè voi siate passati; siccome il Signore Iddio vostro fece al mar rosso, il quale egli seccò davanti a noi, finchè fossimo passati;
24 so that al the peoples of the earth may know how mighty the hand of Yahweh is, and always stand inawe of Yahweh your God." '	24 acciocchè tutti i popoli della terra sappiano che la mano del Signore è potente; affinchè voi temiate del continuo il Signore Iddio vostro
