Joshua 4

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua and said,	1 Cuando todo el pueblo terminó de pasar el Jordán, el Señor dijo a Josué:
2 'Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and give them this order,	2 «Elijan a doce hombres del pueblo, uno por cada tribu,
3 "Here, from mid-Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet were standing, take twelve stones; carrythem with you and set them down in the camp where you pass the night." '	3 y ordénenles lo siguiente: «Retiren de aquí doce piedras, tómenlas de en medio del Jordán, del mismo lugar donde estaban apoyados los pies de los sacerdotes; llévenlas con ustedes y deposítenlas en el lugar donde hoy van a pasar la noche».
4 Joshua cal ed the twelve men whom he had selected from the Israelites, one man from each tribe,	4 Entonces Josué llamó a los doce hombres que había hecho designar entre los israelitas, un hombre por cada tribu,
5 and Joshua said to them, 'Go on ahead of the ark of Yahweh your God into mid-Jordan, and each ofyou take one stone on his shoulder, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel,	5 y les dijo: «Vayan hasta el medio del Jordán, ante el Arca del Señor, su Dios, y cargue cada uno sobre sus espaldas una piedra, conforme al número de las tribus de Israel,
6 to make this a sign among you; and when, in the future, your children ask you, "What do these stonesmean for you?"	6 para que esto quede como un signo en medio de ustedes. Porque el día de mañana sus hijos les preguntarán: «¿Qué significan para ustedes estas piedras?».
7 you will then tell them, "The waters of the Jordan separated before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh;when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the river separated. These stones are an everlasting reminder of thisto the Israelites."	7 Y ustedes les responderán: «Las aguas del Jordán se abrieron ante el Arca de la Alianza del Señor, cuando ella atravesó el Jordán, se abrieron las aguas del río. Y estas piedras son un memorial eterno para los israelitas».
8 The Israelites did as Joshua ordered; they took twelve stones from mid-Jordan corresponding to thenumber of the tribes of Israel, as Yahweh had told Joshua; they carried them over to the camp and set themdown there.	8 Los israelitas cumplieron la orden de Josué: retiraron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, según el número de las tribus de Israel, como el Señor se lo había ordenado a Josué; las trasladaron hasta el lugar donde iban a pasar la noche, y las depositaron allí.
9 Joshua then erected twelve stones in mid-Jordan, on the spot where the feet of the priests carrying theark of the covenant had stood; and they are stil there today.	9 Después Josué hizo erigir doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde se habían apoyado los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca de la Alianza, y allí quedaron hasta el día de hoy.
10 The priests carrying the ark stood stil in mid-Jordan, until everything had been done that Yahweh hadordered Joshua to tel the people (in accordance with everything that Moses had ordered Joshua); and thepeople hurried across.	10 Los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca permanecieron de pie en medio del Jordán, hasta que se cumplió todo lo que Josué comunicó al pueblo por orden del Señor, conforme a las instrucciones que Moisés había dado a Josué. El pueblo se apresuró a pasar,
11 When the people had finished crossing, the ark of Yahweh then crossed, with the priests, to the headof the people.	11 y cuando terminó de hacerlo, también pasó el Arca del Señor, con los sacerdotes al frente del pueblo.
12 The sons of Reuben, the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed in battle formation at thehead of the Israelites, as Moses had told them.	12 Delante de los israelitas cruzaron los rubenitas, los gaditas y la mitad de la tribu de Manasés, equipados con sus armas, como lo había dispuesto Moisés.
13 Some forty thousand warriors in arms, they crossed in Yahweh's presence, ready for battle, towardsthe plain of Jericho.	13 Eran cerca de cuarenta mil guerreros adiestrados, que avanzaban delante del Señor, preparados para combatir en la llanura de Jericó.
14 That day, Yahweh made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, who respected him as they hadrespected Moses, as long as he lived.	14 Aquel día, el señor engrandeció a Josué a los ojos de todo Israel, y desde entonces lo respetaron como habían respetado a Moisés durante toda su vida.
15 Yahweh said to Joshua,	15 Luego el Señor dijo a Josué:
16 'Order the priests carrying the ark of the Testimony to come up out of the Jordan.'	16 «Ordena a los sacerdotes que llevan el Arca del Testimonio que salgan del Jordán».
17 And Joshua gave the order to the priests, 'Come up, out of the Jordan!'	17 Entonces Josué ordenó a los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca: «Salgan del Jordán».
18 Now, when the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of mid-Jordan, nosooner had the soles of the priests' feet touched solid ground, than the waters of the Jordan returned to their bedand ran on, in spate as before.	18 Y cuando estos salieron, apenas sus pies tocaron el suelo firme, las aguas del Jordán volvieron a su cauce y prosiguieron su curso como antes, por encima de sus bordes.
19 It was the tenth day of the first month when the people came up from the Jordan and made their campat Gilgal, on the eastern border of Jericho.	19 El pueblo salió del Jordán el día diez del primer mes, y estableció su campamento en Guilgal, en el extremo oriental de Jericó.
20 As regards those twelve stones, which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set them up at Gilgal.	20 Josué hizo erigir en Guilgal las doce piedras que habían sacado del Jordán,
21 He then said to the Israelites, 'When, in the future, your children ask their fathers, "What are thesestones?"	21 y dijo a los israelitas: «Cuando los hijos de ustedes, el día de mañana, pregunten a sus padres qué significan estas piedras,
22 you wil explain to your children, "Israel crossed this Jordan dry-shod.	22 ustedes les darán la siguiente explicación: «Israel pasó por el cauce seco del Jordán,
23 For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan in front of you until you had crossed, just asYahweh your God did to the Sea of Reeds, which he dried up before us until we had crossed it;	23 porque el Señor, su Dios, secó las aguas del Jordán delante de ustedes, hasta que pasaron, como había secado las aguas del Mar Rojo delante de nosotros, hasta que terminamos de pasar.
24 so that al the peoples of the earth may know how mighty the hand of Yahweh is, and always stand inawe of Yahweh your God." '	24 Lo hizo así, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra reconozcan qué poderosa es la mano del Señor, y ustedes teman siempre al Señor, su Dios».
