NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
As for the classes of gatekeepers. Of the Korahites was Meshelemiah, the son of Kore, one of the sons of Abiasaph.1 Divisiones autem ianitorum.
De Coritis: Meselemia filius Core de filiis Abiasaph.
Meshelemiah's sons: Zechariah, the first-born, Jediael, the second son, Zebadiah, the third, Jathniel, the fourth,2 Filii Meselemiae: Zacharias primogenitus, Iedihel secundus, Zabadias tertius, Iathanael quartus,
Elam, the fifth, Jehohanan, the sixth, Eliehoenai, the seventh.3 Elam quintus, Iohanan sextus, Elioenai septimus.
Obed-edom's sons: Shemaiah, the first-born, Jehozabad, a second son, Joah, the third, Sachar, the fourth, Nethanel, the fifth,4 Filii autem Obededom: Semeias primogenitus, Iozabad secundus, Ioah tertius, Sachar quartus, Nathanael quintus,
Ammiel, the sixth, Issachar, the seventh, Peullethai, the eighth, for God blessed him.5 Ammiel sextus, Issachar septimus, Phollathi octavus, quia benedixit illi Deus.
To his son Shemaiah were born sons who ruled over their family, for they were warriors.6 Semeiae autem filio eius nati sunt filii praefecti familiarum suarum, erant enim viri fortissimi;
The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; also his brethren who were men of might, Elihu and Semachiah.7 filii ergo Semeiae: Othni et Raphael et Obed, Elzabad, fratres eius viri fortissimi, Eliu quoque et Samachias;
All these were the sons of Obed-edom, who, together with their sons and their brethren, were mighty men, fit for the service. Of Obed-edom, sixty-two.8 omnes hi de filiis Obededom, ipsi et filii et fratres eorum fortissimi ad ministrandum sexaginta duo de Obededom.
Of Meshelemiah, eighteen sons and brethren, mighty men.9 Porro Meselemiae filii et fratres eorum robustissimi decem et octo.
Hosah, a descendant of Merari, had these sons: Shimri, the chief (for though he was not the first-born, his father made him chief),10 De Hosa autem, de filiis Merari, erant filii: Semri princeps — non enim fuerat primogenitus, et idcirco posuerat eum pater eius in principem —
Hilkiah, the second son, Tebaliah, the third, Zechariah, the fourth. All the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.11 Helcias secundus, Tabelias tertius, Zacharias quartus; omnes hi filii et fratres Hosa tredecim.
To these classes of gatekeepers, under their chief men, were assigned watches in the service of the house of the LORD, for each group in the same way.12 Hae divisiones ianitorum: secundum capita virorum habebant ministeria sicut et fratres eorum ad ministrandum in domo Domini.
They cast lots for each gate, the small and the large families alike.13 Missae sunt ergo sortes ex aequo et parvis et magnis per familias suas in unamquamque portarum.
When the lot was cast for the east side, it fell to Meshelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a prudent counselor, and the north side fell to his lot.14 Cecidit igitur sors orientalis Selemiae; porro Zachariae filio eius consiliario prudentissimo et erudito sortito obtigit plaga septentrionalis;
To Obed-edom fell the south side, and to his sons the storehouse.15 Obededom vero australis, et filiis eius horreum;
To Hosah fell the west side with the Shallecheth gate at the ascending highway. For each family, watches were established.16 Sephim et Hosa occidentalis iuxta portam Sallecheth apud viam ascensionis. Custodia iuxta custodiam:
On the east, six watched each day, on the north, four each day, on the south, four each day, and at the storehouse they were two and two;17 ad orientem per diem sex et ad aquilonem quattuor per diem, atque ad meridiem similiter in die quattuor et pro horreo bini et bini,
as for the large building on the west, there were four at the highway and two at the large building.18 pro Parbar quoque ad occidentem quattuor in via, duo pro Parbar.
These were the classes of the gatekeepers, descendants of Kore and Merari.19 Hae sunt divisiones ianitorum filiorum Core et Merari.
Their brother Levites superintended the stores for the house of God and the stores of votive offerings.20 Porro Levitae fratres eorum super thesauros domus Dei ac thesauros rerum consecratarum.
Among the descendants of Ladan the Gershonite, the family heads were descendants of Jehiel: the descendants of Jehiel,21 De filiis Ladan Gersonitae principes familiarum Ladan Gersonitae erant Iahielitae.
Zetham and his brother Joel, who superintended the treasures of the house of the LORD.22 Filii Iahiel et Zetham et Ioel fratrum eius erant super thesauros domus Domini.
From the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites,23 De Amramitis et Isaaritis et Hebronitis et Ozielitis:
Shubael, son of Gershon, son of Moses, was chief superintendent over the treasures.24 Subael filius Gersam filii Moysi praepositus thesauris.
His associate pertained to Eliezer, whose son was Rehabiah, whose son was Jeshaiah, whose son was Joram, whose son was Zichri, whose son was Shelomith.25 Fratres quoque eius Eliezer, cuius filius Rohobia et huius filius Iesaias; et huius filius Ioram, huius quoque filius Zechri et huius filius Selemith.
This Shelomith and his brethren superintended all the stores of the votive offerings dedicated by King David, the heads of the families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the commanders of the army,26 Ipse Selemith et fratres eius super omnes thesauros rerum consecratarum, quas sanctificavit David rex et principes familiarum et tribuni et centuriones et duces exercitus
from the booty they had taken in the wars, for the enhancement of the house of the LORD.27 de bellis et manubiis proeliorum, quas consecraverant ad sustentandum templum Domini.
Also, whatever Samuel the seer, Saul, son of Kish, Abner, son of Ner, Joab, son of Zeruiah, and all others had consecrated, was under the charge of Shelomith and his brethren.28 Et universa, quae consecraverant Samuel videns et Saul filius Cis et Abner filius Ner et Ioab filius Sarviae, omnia donaria sacra erant sub manu Selemith et fratrum eius.
Among the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were in charge of Israel's civil affairs as officials and judges.29 De Isaaritis vero erant Chonenias et filii eius ad opera forinsecus super Israel praefecti et iudices.
Among the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, one thousand seven hundred police officers, had the administration of Israel on the western side of the Jordan in all the work of the LORD and in the service of the king.30 Porro de Hebronitis Hasabias et fratres eius viri strenui mille septingenti erant magistratus Israel trans Iordanem contra occidentem in cunctis operibus Domini et in ministerium regis;
Among the Hebronites, Jerijah was their chief according to their family records. In the fortieth year of David's reign search was made, and there were found among them outstanding officers at Jazer of Gilead.31 Hebronitarum autem princeps fuit Ieria secundum cognationes et familias eorum. Quadragesimo anno regni David recensiti sunt et inventi viri fortes in Iazer Galaad
His brethren were also police officers, two thousand seven hundred heads of families. King David appointed them to the administration of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in everything pertaining to God and to the king.32 fratresque eius viri strenui duo milia septingenti principes familiarum; praeposuit autem eos David rex Rubenitis et Gadditis et dimidio tribus Manasse in omne ministerium Dei et regis.
