1 As for the classes of gatekeepers. Of the Korahites was Meshelemiah, the son of Kore, one of the sons of Abiasaph.1 As regards the orders of the gatekeepers: Of the Korahites there was Meshelemiah son of Kore, oneof the sons of Ebiasaph,
2 Meshelemiah's sons: Zechariah, the first-born, Jediael, the second son, Zebadiah, the third, Jathniel, the fourth,2 and Meshelemiah's sons: Zechariah the first-born, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel thefourth,
3 Elam, the fifth, Jehohanan, the sixth, Eliehoenai, the seventh.3 Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Elioenai the seventh.
4 Obed-edom's sons: Shemaiah, the first-born, Jehozabad, a second son, Joah, the third, Sachar, the fourth, Nethanel, the fifth,4 Obed-Edom's sons were: Shemaiah the first-born, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar thefourth, Nethanel the fifth,
5 Ammiel, the sixth, Issachar, the seventh, Peullethai, the eighth, for God blessed him.5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peul ethai the eighth; God had indeed blessed him.
6 To his son Shemaiah were born sons who ruled over their family, for they were warriors.6 His son Shemaiah also had sons who wielded authority in their family, because they were men ofoutstanding quality.
7 The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; also his brethren who were men of might, Elihu and Semachiah.7 The sons of Shemaiah were: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad, whose brothers Elihu andSemachiah were outstanding men.
8 All these were the sons of Obed-edom, who, together with their sons and their brethren, were mighty men, fit for the service. Of Obed-edom, sixty-two.8 Al these were sons of Obed-Edom, who with their sons and brothers were men of standing, wel fittedfor their task. Obed-Edom had sixty-two.
9 Of Meshelemiah, eighteen sons and brethren, mighty men.9 Meshelemiah had eighteen outstanding sons and brothers.
10 Hosah, a descendant of Merari, had these sons: Shimri, the chief (for though he was not the first-born, his father made him chief),10 Hosah, one of the sons of Merari, had sons: Shimri was the first, for although he was not the first-born his father had made him the chief.
11 Hilkiah, the second son, Tebaliah, the third, Zechariah, the fourth. All the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.11 Hilkiah was the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: Hosah had thirteen sons andbrothers in al .
12 To these classes of gatekeepers, under their chief men, were assigned watches in the service of the house of the LORD, for each group in the same way.12 These orders of gatekeepers, al ocated according to their headmen, had duties, just like theirbrothers, of serving in the house of Yahweh.
13 They cast lots for each gate, the small and the large families alike.13 Similarly, they drew lots for each gate, whether their families were large or small.
14 When the lot was cast for the east side, it fell to Meshelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a prudent counselor, and the north side fell to his lot.14 For the eastern one, the lot fel to Shelemiah; and when they drew lots for Zechariah his son, ashrewd counsel or, his lot came out for the north.
15 To Obed-edom fell the south side, and to his sons the storehouse.15 To Obed-Edom went the south, and to his sons the storehouses.
16 To Hosah fell the west side with the Shallecheth gate at the ascending highway. For each family, watches were established.16 To Shuppim and Hosah went the west with the Gate of the Fel ed Tree-trunk on the upper road. Thecorresponding guards were as fol ows:
17 On the east, six watched each day, on the north, four each day, on the south, four each day, and at the storehouse they were two and two;17 for the east gate, six per day; for the north gate, four per day; for the south gate, four per day; for thestorehouses, two each;
18 as for the large building on the west, there were four at the highway and two at the large building.18 for the Parbar at the west gate, four by the road and two for the Parbar.
19 These were the classes of the gatekeepers, descendants of Kore and Merari.19 These were the orders of the gatekeepers of the sons of Korah and the sons of Merari.
20 Their brother Levites superintended the stores for the house of God and the stores of votive offerings.20 The Levites, their brothers, who were responsible for the treasures of the house of God and for thetreasures of consecrated gifts,
21 Among the descendants of Ladan the Gershonite, the family heads were descendants of Jehiel: the descendants of Jehiel,21 were the sons of Ladan and belonged to the Gershonites -- the heads of the families of Ladan weredescended from Ladan the Gershonite -- that is to say, the Jehielites.
22 Zetham and his brother Joel, who superintended the treasures of the house of the LORD.22 The sons of the Jehielites, Zetham and Joel his brother, were responsible for the treasures of thehouse of Yahweh.
23 From the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites,23 Over the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites
24 Shubael, son of Gershon, son of Moses, was chief superintendent over the treasures.24 was Shebuel son of Gershom, son of Moses, who was governor of the treasures;
25 His associate pertained to Eliezer, whose son was Rehabiah, whose son was Jeshaiah, whose son was Joram, whose son was Zichri, whose son was Shelomith.25 and his brothers of the line of Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichrihis son and Shelomoth his son.
26 This Shelomith and his brethren superintended all the stores of the votive offerings dedicated by King David, the heads of the families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the commanders of the army,26 This Shelomoth and his kinsmen were responsible for al the consecrated treasures dedicated byKing David, by the heads of families, by the commanders of the thousands and hundreds and by thecommanders of the army,
27 from the booty they had taken in the wars, for the enhancement of the house of the LORD.27 who had dedicated a part of the spoils of war to the service of the house of Yahweh,
28 Also, whatever Samuel the seer, Saul, son of Kish, Abner, son of Ner, Joab, son of Zeruiah, and all others had consecrated, was under the charge of Shelomith and his brethren.28 and also for al that Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner and Joab son of Zeruiahhad dedicated. In fact, whatever was dedicated was the responsibility of Shelomoth and his kinsmen.
29 Among the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were in charge of Israel's civil affairs as officials and judges.29 Of the Izharites, Chananiah and his sons were assigned to secular duties for Israel as officials andjudges.
30 Among the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, one thousand seven hundred police officers, had the administration of Israel on the western side of the Jordan in all the work of the LORD and in the service of the king.30 Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his kinsmen, one thousand seven hundred outstanding men werein charge of Israel west of Jordan in everything pertaining to Yahweh and to the service of the king.
31 Among the Hebronites, Jerijah was their chief according to their family records. In the fortieth year of David's reign search was made, and there were found among them outstanding officers at Jazer of Gilead.31 Of the Hebronites, Jerijah was the head. In the fortieth year of David's reign research was done onthe lineage and relationships of the Hebronites, and men of outstanding quality from among them were found atJazer in Gilead.
32 His brethren were also police officers, two thousand seven hundred heads of families. King David appointed them to the administration of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in everything pertaining to God and to the king.32 There were twenty-seven hundred outstanding men, heads of families, whom King David put incharge of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh in al matters pertaining to God and theking.
