KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:1 As for yourself, you must say what is consistent with sound doctrine, namely,
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.2 that older men should be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance.
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;3 Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good,
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,4 so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.5 to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.6 Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves,
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,7 showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching, dignity,
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.8 and sound speech that cannot be criticized, so that the opponent will be put to shame without anything bad to say about us.
Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;9 Slaves are to be under the control of their masters in all respects, giving them satisfaction, not talking back to them
Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.10 or stealing from them, but exhibiting complete good faith, so as to adorn the doctrine of God our savior in every way.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,11 For the grace of God has appeared, saving all
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;12 and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age,
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;13 as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of the great God and of our savior Jesus Christ,
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.14 who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.15 Say these things. Exhort and correct with all authority. Let no one look down on you.
