Celui-ci vint en tremblant au-devant de David et luidemanda: "Pourquoi es-tu seul et n'y a-t-il personne avec toi?" | 2 And David said to Ahimelech the priest, "The king has charged me with a matter, and said to me, Let no one know anything of the matter about which I send you, and with which I have charged you.' I have made an appointment with the young men for such and such a place. |
| 3 David répondit au prêtre Ahimélek: "Le roi m'a donné un ordre et m'a dit: Que personne ne sachela mission dont je te charge et l'ordre que je te donne! Quant à mes hommes, je leur ai donné rendez-vous à telendroit. | 3 Now then, what have you at hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever is here." |
| 4 Maintenant, si tu as sous la main cinq pains, donne-les-moi, ou ce qui se trouvera." | 4 And the priest answered David, "I have no common bread at hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women." |
| 5 Le prêtre répondit: "Je n'ai pas de pain ordinaire sous la main, il n'y a que du pain consacré --pourvu que tes hommes se soient gardés de rapports avec les femmes." | 5 And David answered the priest, "Of a truth women have been kept from us as always when I go on an expedition; the vessels of the young men are holy, even when it is a common journey; how much more today will their vessels be holy?" |
| 6 David répondit au prêtre: "Bien sûr, les femmes nous ont été interdites, comme toujours quand jepars en campagne, et les choses des hommes sont en état de pureté. C'est un voyage profane, mais vraimentaujourd'hui ils sont en état de pureté quant à la chose." | 6 So the priest gave him the holy bread; for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence, which is removed from before the LORD, to be replaced by hot bread on the day it is taken away. |
| 7 Alors le prêtre lui donna ce qui avait été consacré, car il n'y avait pas d'autre pain que le paind'oblation, celui qu'on retire de devant Yahvé pour le remplacer par du pain chaud, quand on le prend. | 7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul's herdsmen. |
| 8 Or, ce jour même, se trouvait là un des serviteurs de Saül, retenu devant Yahvé; il se nommaitDoëg l'Edomite et était le plus robuste des bergers de Saül. | 8 And David said to Ahimelech, "And have you not here a spear or a sword at hand? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste." |
| 9 David dit à Ahimélek: "Et n'y a-t-il pas ici sous ta main une lance ou une épée? Je n'ai pris avecmoi ni mon épée ni mes armes, tant l'affaire du roi était urgente." | 9 And the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you will take that, take it, for there is none but that here." And David said, "There is none like that; give it to me." |
| 10 Le prêtre répondit: "L'épée de Goliath le Philistin, que tu as abattu dans la vallée du Térébinthe,est là, enveloppée dans un manteau derrière l'éphod. Si tu veux, prends-la, il n'y en a pas d'autre ici. Davidrépondit: "Elle n'a pas sa pareille, donne-la-moi." | 10 And David rose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. |
| 11 David se leva et s'enfuit ce jour-là loin de Saül et il arriva chez Akish, roi de Gat. | 11 And the servants of Achish said to him, "Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?" |
| 12 Mais les serviteurs d'Akish dirent à celui-ci: "Est-ce que ce n'est pas David, le roi du pays?N'est-ce pas pour celui-là qu'on chantait dans les danses: "Saül a tué ses milliers, et David ses myriades." | 12 And David took these words to heart, and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. |
| 13 David réfléchit sur ces paroles et il eut très peur d'Akish, roi de Gat. | 13 So he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and made marks on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle run down his beard. |
| 14 Alors, il fit l'insensé sous leurs yeux et il simula la démence entre leurs mains: il tambourinaitsur les battants de la porte et laissait sa salive couler sur sa barbe. | 14 Then said Achish to his servants, "Lo, you see the man is mad; why then have you brought him to me? |
| 15 Akish dit à ses serviteurs: "Vous voyez bien que c'est un fou! Pourquoi me l'amenez-vous? | 15 Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?" |
| 16 Est-ce que je manque de fous, que vous m'ameniez celui-ci pour m'ennuyer avec ses folies? Va-t-il entrer dans ma maison?" | |
