JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 En ce temps-là, il n'y avait pas de roi en Israël. Or, en ce temps-là, la tribu de Dan cherchait unterritoire pour y habiter, car, jusqu'à ce jour, il ne lui était pas échu de territoire parmi les tribus d'Israël.	1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
2 Les Danites envoyèrent de leur clan cinq hommes vaillants de Coréa et d'Eshtaol pour reconnaître lepays et l'explorer. Il leur dirent: "Allez explorer le pays." Les cinq hommes arrivèrent dans la montagned'Ephraïm jusqu'à la maison de Mika et ils y passèrent la nuit.	2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.
3 Comme ils étaient près de la maison de Mika, ils reconnurent la voix du jeune lévite et, s'approchantde là, ils lui dirent: "Qui t'a fait venir ici? Qu'y fais-tu? Et qu'est-ce que tu as ici?"	3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?
4 Il leur répondit: "Mika a fait pour moi telle et telle chose. Il m'a pris à gages et je lui sers de prêtre" --	4 And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.
5 "Consulte donc Dieu, lui répliquèrent-ils, afin que nous sachions si le chemin par lequel nous allonsnous mènera à la réussite" --	5 And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.
6 "Allez en paix, leur répondit le prêtre, votre chemin est sous le regard de Yahvé."	6 And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way wherein ye go.
7 Les cinq hommes partirent donc et ils arrivèrent à Laïsh. Ils virent que les gens qui l'habitaientvivaient en sécurité, à la manière des Sidoniens, tranquilles et confiants, qu'il n'y avait ni insuffisance nirestriction d'aucune sorte dans le pays, qu'ils étaient éloignés des Sidoniens et sans relations avec les Araméens.	7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.
8 Ils s'en revinrent alors vers leurs frères, à Coréa et à Eshtaol, et ceux-ci leur demandèrent: "Que nousrapportez-vous?"	8 And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?
9 Ils dirent: "Debout! montons contre eux, car nous avons vu le pays, il est excellent. Mais vousdemeurez sans rien dire! N'hésitez pas à partir pour aller prendre possession du pays.	9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.
10 En arrivant, vous trouverez un peuple confiant. Le pays est étendu, et Dieu l'a mis entre vos mains;c'est un lieu où rien ne manque de ce qu'on peut avoir sur la terre."	10 When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
11 Ils partirent donc de là, du clan des Danites, de Coréa et d'Eshtaol, 600 hommes équipés pour laguerre.	11 And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.
12 Ils montèrent camper à Qiryat-Yéarim en Juda. C'est pourquoi, encore aujourd'hui, on nomme cetendroit le Camp de Dan. Il se trouve à l'ouest de Qiryat-Yéarim.	12 And they went up, and pitched in Kirjath-jearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.
13 De là, ils s'engagèrent dans la montagne d'Ephraïm et ils parvinrent à la maison de Mika.	13 And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.
14 Or les cinq hommes qui étaient allés reconnaître le pays prirent la parole et dirent à leurs frères:"Savez-vous qu'il y a ici dans ces maisons un éphod, des téraphim, une image taillée et une idole de métalfondu? Et maintenant, voyez ce que vous avez à faire."	14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.
15 Faisant un détour par là, ils allèrent à la maison du jeune lévite, à la maison de Mika, et ils lesaluèrent.	15 And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.
16 Pendant que les 600 hommes des Danites, équipés pour la guerre, se tenaient sur le seuil de la porte,	16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.
17 les cinq hommes qui étaient allés reconnaître le pays vinrent, et, étant entrés, ils prirent l'imagetaillée, l'éphod, les téraphim et l'idole de métal fondu, tandis que le prêtre se tenait sur le seuil de la porte avecles 400 hommes équipés pour la guerre.	17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.
18 Ceux-là donc, étant entrés dans la maison de Mika, prirent l'image taillée, l'éphod, les téraphim etl'idole de métal fondu. Mais le prêtre leur dit: "Que faites-vous là" --	18 And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?
19 "Tais-toi! lui répondirent-ils. Mets ta main sur ta bouche et viens avec nous. Tu seras pour nous unpère et un prêtre. Vaut-il mieux pour toi être le prêtre de la maison d'un seul homme que d'être le prêtre d'unetribu et d'un clan d'Israël?"	19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
20 Le prêtre en fut réjoui, il prit l'éphod, les téraphim ainsi que l'image taillée et s'en alla au milieu dela troupe.	20 And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.
21 Reprenant alors leur direction, ils partirent, ayant placé en tête les femmes et les enfants, lestroupeaux et les bagages.	21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.
22 Ils étaient déjà loin de la demeure de Mika quand les gens qui habitaient les maisons voisines decelle de Mika donnèrent l'alarme et se mirent à la poursuite des Danites.	22 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.
23 Comme ils criaient après les Danites, ceux-ci, se retournant, dirent à Mika: "Qu'as-tu à crier ainsi"--	23 And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?
24 "Vous m'avez pris mon dieu que je m'étais fabriqué, leur répondit-il, ainsi que le prêtre. Vouspartez, et que me reste-t-il? Comment pouvez-vous me dire: Qu'as-tu?"	24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?
25 Les Danites lui répliquèrent: "Ne nous fais plus entendre ta voix! Sinon des hommes exaspéréspourraient bien tomber sur vous. Tu risques de causer ta perte et celle de ta maison!"	25 And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.
26 Les Danites poursuivirent leur chemin, et Mika, voyant qu'ils étaient les plus forts, s'en retourna etrevint chez lui.	26 And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
27 Ainsi, après avoir pris le dieu qu'avait fabriqué Mika, et le prêtre qu'il avait à lui, les Danitesmarchèrent contre Laïsh, contre un peuple tranquille et confiant. Ils le passèrent au fil de l'épée et ils livrèrent laville aux flammes.	27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.
28 Il n'y eut personne pour la secourir, car elle était loin de Sidon et elle n'avait pas de relations avecles Araméens. Elle se situait dans la vallée qui s'étend vers Bet-Rehob. Ils rebâtirent la ville, s'y établirent,	28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Beth-rehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.
29 et ils l'appelèrent Dan, du nom de Dan leur père qui était né d'Israël. A l'origine pourtant la villes'appelait Laïsh.	29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
30 Les Danites dressèrent pour eux l'image taillée. Yehonatân, fils de Gershom, fils de Moïse, etensuite ses fils, ont été prêtres de la tribu de Dan jusqu'au jour où la population du pays fut emmenée en exil.	30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
31 Ils installèrent pour leur usage l'image taillée que Mika avait faite, et elle demeura là aussilongtemps que subsista la maison de Dieu à Silo.	31 And they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
