Épître de Jacques 4

JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 D'où viennent les guerres, d'où viennent les batailles parmi vous? N'est-ce pas précisément de vospassions, qui combattent dans vos membres?	1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Vous convoitez et ne possédez pas? Alors vous tuez. Vous êtes jaloux et ne pouvez obtenir? Alorsvous bataillez et vous faites la guerre. Vous ne possédez pas parce que vous ne demandez pas.	2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Vous demandez et ne recevez pas parce que vous demandez mal, afin de dépenser pour vospassions.	3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Adultères, ne savez-vous pas que l'amitié pour le monde est inimitié contre Dieu? Qui veut doncêtre ami du monde, se rend ennemi de Dieu.	4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Penseriez-vous que l'Ecriture dise en vain: Il désire avec jalousie, l'esprit qu'il a mis en nous?	5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 Il donne d'ailleurs une plus grande grâce suivant la parole de l'Ecriture: Dieu résiste aux orgueilleux,mais il donne sa grâce aux humbles.	6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Soumettez-vous donc à Dieu; résistez au diable et il fuira loin de vous.	7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Approchez-vous de Dieu et il s'approchera de vous. Purifiez vos mains, pécheurs; sanctifiez voscoeurs, gens à l'âme partagée.	8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Voyez votre misère, prenez le deuil, pleurez. Que votre rire se change en deuil et votre joie entristesse.	9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humiliez-vous devant le Seigneur et il vous élèvera.	10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11 Ne médisez pas les uns des autres, frères. Celui qui médit d'un frère ou qui juge son frère, médit dela Loi et juge la Loi. Or si tu juges la Loi, tu n'es pas l'observateur de la Loi, mais son juge.	11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 Il n'y a qu'un seul législateur et juge, celui qui peut sauver ou perdre. Et toi, qui es-tu pour juger leprochain?	12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13 Eh bien, maintenant! vous qui dites: "Aujourd'hui ou demain nous irons dans telle ville, nous ypasserons l'année, nous ferons du commerce et nous gagnerons de l'argent!"	13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Vous qui ne savez pas ce que demain sera votre vie, car vous êtes une vapeur qui paraît un instant,puis disparaît.	14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 Que ne dites-vous au contraire: "Si le Seigneur le veut, nous vivrons et nous ferons ceci ou cela."	15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 Mais voilà que vous vous glorifiez de votre forfanterie! Toute gloriole de ce genre est mauvaise.	16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Celui donc qui sait faire le bien et ne le fait pas, commet un péché.	17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
