Livre de Josué 20

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Yahvé dit à Josué:	1 And the Lord spoke to Josue, saying: Speak to the children of Israel and say to them:
2 "Parle aux Israélites et dis-leur: Donnez-vous les villes de refuge dont je vous ai parlé parl'intermédiaire de Moïse,	2 Appoint cities of refuge, a of which I spoke to you by the hand of Moses:
3 où pourra s'enfuir le meurtrier qui a frappé quelqu'un par inadvertance (involontairement), et quivous serviront de refuge contre le vengeur du sang.	3 That whosoever shall kill a person unawares may flee to them: and may escape the wrath of the kinsman, who is the avenger of blood:
4 (C'est donc vers une de ces villes que le meurtrier devra s'enfuir. Il se tiendra à l'entrée de la porte dela ville et exposera son cas aux anciens de la ville. Ceux-ci l'admettront dans leur ville et lui assigneront un lieuoù il habitera parmi eux.	4 And when he shall flee to one of these cities: he shall stand before the gate of the city, and shall speak to the ancients of that city, such things as prove him innocent: and so shall they receive him, and give him a place to dwell in.
5 Si le vengeur du sang le poursuit, ils ne livreront pas le meurtrier entre ses mains, car c'estinvolontairement qu'il a frappé son prochain, sans avoir eu contre lui de haine invétérée.	5 And when the avenger of blood shall pursue him, they shall not deliver him into his hands, because he slew his neighbour unawares, and is not proved to have been his enemy two or three days before.
6 Il devra rester dans cette ville) jusqu'à ce qu'il comparaisse en jugement devant la communauté(jusqu'à la mort du grand prêtre en fonction à cette époque. Alors seulement le meurtrier pourra retourner dans saville et sa maison, dans la ville d'où il s'est enfui.)"	6 And he shall dwell in that city, till he stand before judgment to give an account of his fact, and till the death of the high priest, who shall be at that time: then shall the manslayer return, and go into his own city and house from whence he fled.
7 On consacra donc Qédesh en Galilée, dans la montagne de Nephtali, Sichem dans la montagned'Ephraïm, et Qiryat-Arba -- c'est Hébron -- dans la montagne de Juda.	7 And they appointed Cedes in Galilee of mount Nephtali, and Sichem in mount Ephraim, and Cariath-Arbe, the same is Hebron in the mountain of Juda.
8 De l'autre côté du Jourdain de Jéricho à l'orient, on désigna dans le désert, sur le plateau, Béçer de latribu de Ruben, Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad et Golân en Bashân, de la tribu de Manassé.	8 And beyond the Jordan to the east of Jericho, they appointed Bosor, which is upon the plain of the wilderness of the tribe of Ruben, and Ramoth in Galaad of the tribe of Cad, and Gaulon in Basan of the tribe of Manasses.
9 Telles furent les villes désignées pour tous les Israélites et pour les étrangers qui résident parmi eux,pour qu'y pût fuir quiconque aurait frappé quelqu'un par inadvertance, et qu'il échappât à la main du vengeur dusang, jusqu'à sa comparution devant la communauté.	9 These cities were appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the strangers, that dwelt among them: that whosoever had killed a person unawares might flee to them, and not die by the hand of the kinsman, coveting to revenge the blood that was shed, until he should stand before the people to lay open his cause.
