Épître aux Colossiens 1

1 Paul, apôtre du Christ Jésus par la volonté de Dieu, et le frère Timothée,	1 Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy, a brother,
2 aux saints de Colosses, frères fidèles dans le Christ. A vous grâce et paix de par Dieu notre Père!	2 to the saints and faithful brothers in Christ Jesus who are at Colossae.
3 Nous ne cessons de rendre grâces au Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, en pensant àvous dans nos prières,	3 Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying for you always.
4 depuis que nous avons appris votre foi dans le Christ Jésus et la charité que vous avez à l'égardde tous les saints,	4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love that you have toward all the saints,
5 en raison de l'espérance qui vous est réservée dans les cieux. Cette espérance, vous en aveznaguère entendu l'annonce dans la Parole de vérité, l'Evangile	5 because of the hope that has been stored up for you in heaven, which you have heard through the Word of Truth in the Gospel.
6 qui est parvenu chez vous, de même que dans le monde entier il fructifie et se développe; chezvous il fait de même depuis le jour où vous avez appris et compris dans sa vérité la grâce de Dieu.	6 This has reached you, just as it is present in the whole world, where it grows and bears fruit, as it has also done in you, since the day when you first heard and knew the grace of God in truth,
7 C'est Épaphras, notre cher compagnon de service, qui vous en a instruits; il nous suppléefidèlement comme ministre du Christ,	7 just as you learned it from Epaphras, our most beloved fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ Jesus.
8 et c'est lui-même qui nous a fait connaître votre dilection dans l'Esprit.	8 And he has also manifested to us your love in the Spirit.
9 C'est pourquoi nous aussi, depuis le jour où nous avons reçu ces nouvelles, nous ne cessons deprier pour vous et de demander à Dieu qu'Il vous fasse parvenir à la pleine connaissance de sa volonté, en toutesagesse et intelligence spirituelle.	9 Then, too, from the day when we first heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and requesting that you be filled with the knowledge of his will, with all wisdom and spiritual understanding,
10 Vous pourrez ainsi mener une vie digne du Seigneur et qui Lui plaise en tout: vous produireztoutes sortes de bonnes oeuvres et grandirez dans la connaissance de Dieu;	10 so that you may walk in a manner worthy of God, being pleasing in all things, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God,
11 animés d'une puissante énergie par la vigueur de sa gloire, vous acquerrez une parfaiteconstance et endurance; avec joie	11 being strengthened in every virtue, in accord with the power of his glory, with all patience and longsuffering, with joy,
12 vous remercierez le Père qui vous a mis en mesure de partager le sort des saints dans la lumière.	12 giving thanks to God the Father, who has made us worthy to have a share in the portion of the saints, in the light.
13 Il nous a en effet arrachés à l'empire des ténèbres et nous a transférés dans le Royaume de sonFils bien-aimé,	13 For he has rescued us from the power of darkness, and he has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of his love,
14 en qui nous avons la rédemption, la rémission des péchés.	14 in whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins.
15 Il est l'image du Dieu invisible, Premier-Né de toute créature,	15 He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of every creature.
16 car c'est en lui qu'ont été créées toutes choses dans les cieux et sur la terre, les visibles et lesinvisibles, Trônes, Seigneuries, Principautés, Puissances; tout a été créé par lui et pour lui.	16 For in him was created everything in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers. All things were created through him and in him.
17 Il est avant toute chose et tout subsiste en lui.	17 And he is before all, and in him all things continue.
18 Et il est aussi la tête du Corps, c'est-à-dire l'Eglise: Il est le Principe, Premier-né d'entre lesmorts (il fallait qu'il obtînt en tout la primauté),	18 And he is the head of his body, the Church. He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, so that in all things he may hold primacy.
19 car Dieu s'est plu à faire habiter en lui toute la Plénitude	19 For the Father is well-pleased that all fullness reside in him,
20 et par lui à réconcilier tous les êtres pour lui, aussi bien sur la terre que dans les cieux, enfaisant la paix par le sang de sa croix.	20 and that, through him, all things be reconciled to himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, for the things that are on earth, as well as the things that are in heaven.
21 Vous-mêmes, qui étiez devenus jadis des étrangers et des ennemis, par vos pensées et par vosoeuvres mauvaises,	21 And you, though you had been, in times past, understood to be foreigners and enemies, with works of evil,
22 voici qu'à présent Il vous a réconciliés dans son corps de chair, le livrant à la mort, pour vousfaire paraître devant Lui saints, sans tache et sans reproche.	22 yet now he has reconciled you, by his body of flesh, through death, so as to offer you, holy and immaculate and blameless, before him.
23 Il faut seulement que vous persévériez dans la foi, affermis sur des bases solides, sans vouslaisser détourner de l'espérance promise par l'Evangile que vous avez entendu, qui a été prêché à toute créaturesous le ciel, et dont moi, Paul, je suis devenu le ministre.	23 So then, continue in the faith: well-founded and steadfast and immovable, by the hope of the Gospel that you have heard, which has been preached throughout all creation under heaven, the Gospel of which I, Paul, have become a minister.
24 En ce moment je trouve ma joie dans les souffrances que j'endure pour vous, et je complète enma chair ce qui manque aux épreuves du Christ pour son Corps, qui est l'Eglise.	24 For now I rejoice in my passion on your behalf, and I complete in my flesh the things that are lacking in the Passion of Christ, for the sake of his body, which is the Church.
25 Car je suis devenu ministre de l'Eglise, en vertu de la charge que Dieu m'a confiée, de réaliserchez vous l'avènement de la Parole de Dieu,	25 For I have become a minister of the Church, according to the dispensation of God that has been given to me among you, so that I may fulfill the Word of God,
26 ce mystère resté caché depuis les siècles et les générations et qui maintenant vient d'êtremanifesté à ses saints:	26 the mystery which had remained hidden to past ages and generations, but which now is manifested to his saints.
27 Dieu a bien voulu leur faire connaître de quelle gloire est riche ce mystère chez les païens: c'estle Christ parmi vous! l'espérance de la gloire!	27 To them, God willed to made known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ and the hope of his glory within you.
28 Ce Christ, nous l'annonçons, avertissant tout homme et instruisant tout homme en toute sagesse,afin de rendre tout homme parfait dans le Christ.	28 We are announcing him, correcting every man and teaching every man, with all wisdom, so that we may offer every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
29 Et c'est bien pour cette cause que je me fatigue à lutter, avec son énergie qui agit en moi avecpuissance.	29 In him, too, I labor, striving according to his action within me, which he works in virtue.
