JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Ayant donc reçu notre justification de la foi, nous sommes en paix avec Dieu par notre SeigneurJésus Christ,	1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 lui qui nous a donné d'avoir accès par la foi à cette grâce en laquelle nous sommes établis et nousnous glorifions dans l'espérance de la gloire de Dieu.	2 through whom we have gained access (by faith) to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
3 Que dis-je? Nous nous glorifions encore des tribulations, sachant bien que la tribulation produit laconstance,	3 Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance,
4 la constance une vertu éprouvée, la vertu éprouvée l'espérance.	4 and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope,
5 Et l'espérance ne déçoit point, parce que l'amour de Dieu a été répandu dans nos coeurs par le SaintEsprit qui nous fut donné.	5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.
6 C'est en effet alors que nous étions sans force, c'est alors, au temps fixé, que le Christ est mort pourdes impies; --	6 For Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly.
7 à peine en effet voudrait-on mourir pour un homme juste; pour un homme de bien, oui, peut-êtreosera-t-on mourir; --	7 Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die.
8 mais la preuve que Dieu nous aime, c'est que le Christ, alors que nous étions encore pécheurs, estmort pour nous.	8 But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
9 Combien plus, maintenant justifiés dans son sang, serons-nous par lui sauvés de la colère.	9 How much more then, since we are now justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath.
10 Si, étant ennemis, nous fûmes réconciliés à Dieu par la mort de son Fils, combien plus, une foisréconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie,	10 Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
11 et pas seulement cela, mais nous nous glorifions en Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus Christ par quidès à présent nous avons obtenu la réconciliation.	11 Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
12 Voilà pourquoi, de même que par un seul homme le péché est entré dans le monde, et par lepéché la mort, et qu'ainsi la mort a passé en tous les hommes, du fait que tous ont péché; --	12 Therefore, just as through one person sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all, inasmuch as all sinned --
13 car jusqu'à la Loi il y avait du péché dans le monde, mais le péché n'est pas imputé quand il n'y apas de loi;	13 for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no law.
14 cependant la mort a régné d'Adam à Moïse même sur ceux qui n'avaient point péché d'unetransgression semblable à celle d'Adam, figure de celui qui devait venir...	14 But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come.
15 Mais il n'en va pas du don comme de la faute. Si, par la faute d'un seul, la multitude est morte,combien plus la grâce de Dieu et le don conféré par la grâce d'un seul homme, Jésus Christ, se sont-ils répandusà profusion sur la multitude.	15 But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by that one person's transgression the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one person Jesus Christ overflow for the many.
16 Et il n'en va pas du don comme des conséquences du péché d'un seul: le jugement venant après unseul péché aboutit à une condamnation, l'oeuvre de grâce à la suite d'un grand nombre de fautes aboutit à unejustification.	16 And the gift is not like the result of the one person's sinning. For after one sin there was the judgment that brought condemnation; but the gift, after many transgressions, brought acquittal.
17 Si, en effet, par la faute d'un seul, la mort a régné du fait de ce seul homme, combien plus ceuxqui reçoivent avec profusion la grâce et le don de la justice régneront-ils dans la vie par le seul Jésus Christ.	17 For if, by the transgression of one person, death came to reign through that one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of justification come to reign in life through the one person Jesus Christ.
18 Ainsi donc, comme la faute d'un seul a entraîné sur tous les hommes une condamnation, de mêmel'oeuvre de justice d'un seul procure à tous une justification qui donne la vie.	18 In conclusion, just as through one transgression condemnation came upon all, so through one righteous act acquittal and life came to all.
19 Comme en effet par la désobéissance d'un seul homme la multitude a été constituée pécheresse,ainsi par l'obéissance d'un seul la multitude sera-t-elle constituée juste.	19 For just as through the disobedience of one person the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of one the many will be made righteous.
20 La Loi, elle, est intervenue pour que se multipliât la faute; mais où le péché s'est multiplié, lagrâce a surabondé:	20 The law entered in so that transgression might increase but, where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more,
21 ainsi, de même que le péché a régné dans la mort, de même la grâce régnerait par la justice pourla vie éternelle par Jésus Christ notre Seigneur.	21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through justification for eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
