1 Ayant dit cela, Jésus s'en alla avec ses disciples de l'autre côté du torrent du Cédron. Il y avait là unjardin dans lequel il entra, ainsi que ses disciples.	1 When Jesus had said these things, he departed with his disciples across the Torrent of Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he entered with his disciples.
2 Or Judas, qui le livrait, connaissait aussi ce lieu, parce que bien des fois Jésus et ses disciples s'yétaient réunis.	2 But Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus had frequently met with his disciples there.
3 Judas donc, menant la cohorte et des gardes détachés par les grands prêtres et les Pharisiens, vient làavec des lanternes, des torches et des armes.	3 Then Judas, when he had received a cohort from both the high priests and the attendants of the Pharisees, approached the place with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 Alors Jésus, sachant tout ce qui allait lui advenir, sortit et leur dit: "Qui cherchez-vous?"	4 And so Jesus, knowing all that was about to happen to him, advanced and said to them, “Who are you seeking?”
5 Ils lui répondirent: "Jésus le Nazôréen." Il leur dit: "C'est moi." Or Judas, qui le livrait, se tenait là, luiaussi, avec eux.	5 They answered him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Now Judas, who betrayed him, was also standing with them.
6 Quand Jésus leur eut dit: "C'est moi", ils reculèrent et tombèrent à terre.	6 Then, when he said to them, “I am he,” they moved back and fell to the ground.
7 De nouveau il leur demanda: "Qui cherchez-vous?" Ils dirent: "Jésus le Nazôréen."	7 Then again he questioned them: “Who are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”
8 Jésus répondit: "Je vous ai dit que c'est moi. Si donc c'est moi que vous cherchez, laissez ceux-là s'enaller":	8 Jesus responded: “I told you that I am he. Therefore, if you are seeking me, permit these others to go away.”
9 afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'il avait dite: "Ceux que tu m'as donnés, je n'en ai pas perdu un seul."	9 This was so that the word might be fulfilled, which he said, “Of those whom you have given to me, I have not lost any of them.”
10 Alors Simon-Pierre, qui portait un glaive, le tira, frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre et lui tranchal'oreille droite. Ce serviteur avait nom Malchus.	10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and he struck the servant of the high priest, and he cut off his right ear. Now the name of the servant was Malchus.
11 Jésus dit à Pierre: "Rentre le glaive dans le fourreau. La coupe que m'a donnée le Père, ne la boirai-jepas?"	11 Therefore, Jesus said to Peter: “Set your sword into the scabbard. Should I not drink the chalice which my father has given to me?”
12 Alors la cohorte, le tribun et les gardes des Juifs saisirent Jésus et le lièrent.	12 Then the cohort, and the tribune, and the attendants of the Jews apprehended Jesus and bound him.
13 Ils le menèrent d'abord chez Anne; c'était en effet le beau-père de Caïphe, qui était grand prêtre cetteannée-là.	13 And they led him away, first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year.
14 Or Caïphe était celui qui avait donné ce conseil aux Juifs: "Il y a intérêt à ce qu'un seul hommemeure pour le peuple."	14 Now Caiaphas was the one who had given counsel to the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die for the people.
15 Or Simon-Pierre suivait Jésus, ainsi qu'un autre disciple. Ce disciple était connu du grand prêtre etentra avec Jésus dans la cour du grand prêtre,	15 And Simon Peter was following Jesus with another disciple. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and so he entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest.
16 tandis que Pierre se tenait près de la porte, dehors. L'autre disciple, celui qui était connu du grandprêtre, sortit donc et dit un mot à la portière et il fit entrer Pierre.	16 But Peter was standing outside at the entrance. Therefore, the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the woman who was the doorkeeper, and he led in Peter.
17 La servante, celle qui gardait la porte, dit alors à Pierre: "N'es-tu pas, toi aussi, des disciples de cethomme?" Lui, dit: "Je n'en suis pas."	17 Therefore, the woman servant keeping the door said to Peter, “Are you not also among the disciples of this man?” He said, “I am not.”
18 Les serviteurs et les gardes, qui avaient fait un feu de braise, parce que le temps était froid, setenaient là et se chauffaient. Pierre aussi se tenait là avec eux et se chauffait.	18 Now the servants and attendants were standing before burning coals, for it was cold, and they were warming themselves. And Peter was standing with them also, warming himself.
19 Le grand prêtre interrogea Jésus sur ses disciples et sur sa doctrine.	19 Then the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his doctrine.
20 Jésus lui répondit: "C'est au grand jour que j'ai parlé au monde, j'ai toujours enseigné à la synagogueet dans le Temple où tous les Juifs s'assemblent et je n'ai rien dit en secret.	20 Jesus responded to him: “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews meet. And I have said nothing in secret.
21 Pourquoi m'interroges-tu? Demande à ceux qui ont entendu ce que je leur ai enseigné; eux, ils saventce que j'ai dit."	21 Why do you question me? Question those who heard what I said to them. Behold, they know these things that I have said.”
22 A ces mots, l'un des gardes, qui se tenait là, donna une gifle à Jésus en disant: "C'est ainsi que turéponds au grand prêtre?"	22 Then, when he had said this, one the attendants standing nearby struck Jesus, saying: “Is this the way you answer the high priest?”
23 Jésus lui répondit: "Si j'ai mal parlé, témoigne de ce qui est mal; mais si j'ai bien parlé, pourquoi mefrappes-tu?"	23 Jesus answered him: “If I have spoken wrongly, offer testimony about the wrong. But if I have spoken correctly, then why do you strike me?”
24 Anne l'envoya alors, toujours lié, au grand prêtre, Caïphe.	24 And Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25 Or Simon-Pierre se tenait là et se chauffait. Ils lui dirent: "N'es-tu pas, toi aussi, de ses disciples?"Lui le nia et dit: "Je n'en suis pas."	25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. Then they said to him, “Are you not also one of his disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
26 Un des serviteurs du grand prêtre, un parent de celui à qui Pierre avait tranché l'oreille, dit: "Ne t'ai-je pas vu dans le jardin avec lui?"	26 One of the servants of the high priest (a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off) said to him, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?”
27 De nouveau Pierre nia, et aussitôt un coq chanta.	27 Therefore, again, Peter denied it. And immediately the rooster crowed.
28 Alors ils mènent Jésus de chez Caïphe au prétoire. C'était le matin. Eux-mêmes n'entrèrent pas dansle prétoire, pour ne pas se souiller, mais pour pouvoir manger la Pâque.	28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas into the praetorium. Now it was morning, and so they did not enter into the praetorium, so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
29 Pilate sortit donc au-dehors, vers eux, et il dit: "Quelle accusation portez-vous contre cet homme?"	29 Therefore, Pilate went outside to them, and he said, “What accusation are you bringing against this man?”
30 Ils lui répondirent: "Si ce n'était pas un malfaiteur, nous ne te l'aurions pas livré."	30 They responded and said to him, “If he were not an evil-doer, we would not have handed him over you.”
31 Pilate leur dit: "Prenez-le, vous, et jugez-le selon votre Loi." Les Juifs lui dirent: "Il ne nous est paspermis de mettre quelqu'un à mort":	31 Therefore, Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your own law.” Then the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to execute anyone.”
32 afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'avait dite Jésus, signifiant de quelle mort il devait mourir.	32 This was so that the word of Jesus would be fulfilled, which he spoke signifying what kind of death he would die.
33 Alors Pilate entra de nouveau dans le prétoire; il appela Jésus et dit: "Tu es le roi des Juifs?"	33 Then Pilate entered the praetorium again, and he called Jesus and said to him, “You are the king of the Jews?”
34 Jésus répondit: "Dis-tu cela de toi-même ou d'autres te l'ont-ils dit de moi?"	34 Jesus responded, “Are you saying this of yourself, or have others spoken to you about me?”
35 Pilate répondit: "Est-ce que je suis Juif, moi? Ta nation et les grands prêtres t'ont livré à moi. Qu'as-tu fait?"	35 Pilate responded: “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the high priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?”
36 Jésus répondit: "Mon royaume n'est pas de ce monde. Si mon royaume était de ce monde, mes gensauraient combattu pour que je ne sois pas livré aux Juifs. Mais mon royaume n'est pas d'ici."	36 Jesus responded: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my ministers would certainly strive so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not now from here.”
37 Pilate lui dit: "Donc tu es roi?" Jésus répondit: "Tu le dis: je suis roi. Je ne suis né, et je ne suis venudans le monde, que pour rendre témoignage à la vérité. Quiconque est de la vérité écoute ma voix."	37 And so Pilate said to him, “You are a king, then?” Jesus answered, “You are saying that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world: so that I may offer testimony to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.”
38 Pilate lui dit: "Qu'est-ce que la vérité?" Et, sur ce mot, il sortit de nouveau et alla vers les Juifs. Et illeur dit: "Je ne trouve en lui aucun motif de condamnation.	38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and he said to them, “I find no case against him.
39 Mais c'est pour vous une coutume que je vous relâche quelqu'un à la Pâque. Voulez-vous que je vousrelâche le roi des Juifs?"	39 But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”
40 Alors ils vociférèrent de nouveau, disant: "Pas lui, mais Barabbas!" Or Barabbas était un brigand.	40 Then they all cried out repeatedly, saying: “Not this one, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber.
