JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La Pâque et les Azymes allaient avoir lieu dans deux jours, et les grands prêtres et les scribescherchaient comment arrêter Jésus par ruse pour le tuer.	1 It was two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread, and the chief priests and thescribes were looking for a way to arrest Jesus by some trick and have him put to death.
2 Car ils se disaient: "Pas en pleine fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte parmi le peuple."	2 For they said, 'It must not be during the festivities, or there wil be a disturbance among the people.'
3 Comme il se trouvait à Béthanie, chez Simon le lépreux, alors qu'il était à table, une femme vint,avec un flacon d'albâtre contenant un nard pur de grand prix. Brisant le flacon, elle le lui versa sur la tête.	3 He was at Bethany in the house of Simon, a man who had suffered from a virulent skin-disease; hewas at table when a woman came in with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, pure nard. She broke the jarand poured the ointment on his head.
4 Or il y en eut qui s'indignèrent entre eux: "A quoi bon ce gaspillage de parfum?	4 Some who were there said to one another indignantly, 'Why this waste of ointment?
5 Ce parfum pouvait être vendu plus de 300 deniers et donné aux pauvres." Et ils la rudoyaient.	5 Ointment like this could have been sold for over three hundred denari and the money given to thepoor'; and they were angry with her.
6 Mais Jésus dit: "Laissez-la; pourquoi la tracassez-vous? C'est une bonne oeuvre qu'elle a accompliesur moi.	6 But Jesus said, 'Leave her alone. Why are you upsetting her? What she has done for me is a goodwork.
7 Les pauvres, en effet, vous les aurez toujours avec vous et, quand vous le voudrez, vous pourrez leurfaire du bien, mais moi, vous ne m'aurez pas toujours.	7 You have the poor with you always, and you can be kind to them whenever you wish, but you wil notalways have me.
8 Elle a fait ce qui était en son pouvoir: d'avance elle a parfumé mon corps pour l'ensevelissement.	8 She has done what she could: she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial.
9 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où sera proclamé l'Evangile, au monde entier, on redira aussi, à samémoire, ce qu'elle vient de faire."	9 In truth I tel you, wherever throughout al the world the gospel is proclaimed, what she has done wilbe told as well, in remembrance of her.'
10 Judas Iscarioth, l'un des Douze, s'en alla auprès des grands prêtres pour le leur livrer.	10 Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, approached the chief priests with an offer to hand Jesus over tothem.
11 A cette nouvelle ils se réjouirent et ils promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Et il cherchait uneoccasion favorable pour le livrer.	11 They were delighted to hear it, and promised to give him money; and he began to look for a way ofbetraying him when the opportunity should occur.
12 Le premier jour des Azymes, où l'on immolait la Pâque, ses disciples lui disent: "Où veux-tu quenous nous en allions préparer pour que tu manges la Pâque?"	12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was sacrificed, his disciples said tohim, 'Where do you want us to go and make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?'
13 Il envoie alors deux de ses disciples, en leur disant: "Allez à la ville; vous rencontrerez un hommeportant une cruche d'eau. Suivez-le,	13 So he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 'Go into the city and you will meet a man carrying apitcher of water. Fol ow him,
14 et là où il entrera, dites au propriétaire: Le Maître te fait dire: Où est ma salle, où je pourrai mangerla Pâque avec mes disciples?	14 and say to the owner of the house which he enters, "The Master says: Where is the room for me toeat the Passover with my disciples?"
15 Et il vous montrera, à l'étage, une grande pièce garnie de coussins, toute prête; faites-y pour nous lespréparatifs."	15 He wil show you a large upper room furnished with couches, al prepared. Make the preparations forus there.'
16 Les disciples partirent et vinrent à la ville, et ils trouvèrent comme il leur avait dit, et ils préparèrentla Pâque.	16 The disciples set out and went to the city and found everything as he had told them, and preparedthe Passover.
17 Le soir venu, il arrive avec les Douze.	17 When evening came he arrived with the Twelve.
18 Et tandis qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: "En vérité, je vous le dis, l'un de vousme livrera, un qui mange avec moi."	18 And while they were at table eating, Jesus said, 'In truth I tell you, one of you is about to betray me,one of you eating with me.'
19 Ils devinrent tout tristes et se mirent à lui dire l'un après l'autre: "Serait-ce moi?"	19 They were distressed and said to him, one after another, 'Not me, surely?'
20 Il leur dit: "C'est l'un des Douze, qui plonge avec moi la main dans le même plat.	20 He said to them, 'It is one of the Twelve, one who is dipping into the same dish with me.
21 Oui, le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon qu'il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à cet homme-là par qui leFils de l'homme est livré! Mieux eût valu pour cet homme-là de ne pas naître!"	21 Yes, the Son of man is going to his fate, as the scriptures say he will, but alas for that man by whomthe Son of man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born.'
22 Et tandis qu'ils mangeaient, il prit du pain, le bénit, le rompit et le leur donna en disant: "Prenez,ceci est mon corps."	22 And as they were eating he took bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and gave it tothem. 'Take it,' he said, 'this is my body.'
23 Puis, prenant une coupe, il rendit grâces et la leur donna, et ils en burent tous.	23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he handed it to them, and al drank from it,
24 Et il leur dit: "Ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui va être répandu pour une multitude.	24 and he said to them, 'This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, poured out for many.
25 En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus du produit de la vigne jusqu'au jour où je boirai le vinnouveau dans le Royaume de Dieu."	25 In truth I tel you, I shal never drink wine any more until the day I drink the new wine in the kingdomof God.'
26 Après le chant desMarc Psaumes, ils partirent pour le mont des Oliviers.	26 After the psalms had been sung they left for the Mount of Olives.
27 Et Jésus leur dit: "Tous vous allez succomber, car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur et les brebisseront dispersées.	27 And Jesus said to them, 'You wil all fal away, for the scripture says: I shal strike the shepherd andthe sheep wil be scattered;
28 Mais après ma résurrection, je vous précéderai en Galilée."	28 however, after my resurrection I shall go before you into Galilee.'
29 Pierre lui dit: "Même si tous succombent, du moins pas moi!"	29 Peter said, 'Even if all fal away, I wil not.'
30 Jésus lui dit: "En vérité, je te le dis: toi, aujourd'hui, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante deuxfois, tu m'auras renié trois fois."	30 And Jesus said to him, 'In truth I tel you, this day, this very night, before the cock crows twice, youwil have disowned me three times.'
31 Mais lui reprenait de plus belle: "Dussé-je mourir avec toi, non, je ne te renierai pas." Et tousdisaient de même.	31 But he repeated stil more earnestly, 'If I have to die with you, I wil never disown you.' And they allsaid the same.
32 Ils parviennent à un domaine du nom de Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples: "Restez ici tandis queje prierai."	32 They came to a plot of land cal ed Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, 'Stay here while I pray.'
33 Puis il prend avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à ressentir effroi et angoisse.	33 Then he took Peter and James and John with him.
34 Et il leur dit: "Mon âme est triste à en mourir; demeurez ici et veillez."	34 And he began to feel terror and anguish. And he said to them, 'My soul is sorrowful to the point ofdeath. Wait here, and stay awake.'
35 Etant allé un peu plus loin, il tombait à terre, et il priait pour que, s'il était possible, cette heurepassât loin de lui.	35 And going on a little further he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, thishour might pass him by.
36 Et il disait: "Abba (Père)! tout t'est possible: éloigne de moi cette coupe; pourtant, pas ce que jeveux, mais ce que tu veux!"	36 'Abba, Father!' he said, 'For you everything is possible. Take this cup away from me. But let it be asyou, not I, would have it.'
37 Il vient et les trouve en train de dormir; et il dit à Pierre: "Simon, tu dors? Tu n'as pas eu la force deveiller une heure?	37 He came back and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Had you notthe strength to stay awake one hour?
38 Veillez et priez pour ne pas entrer en tentation: l'esprit est ardent, mais la chair est faible."	38 Stay awake and pray not to be put to the test. The spirit is wil ing enough, but human nature is weak.'
39 Puis il s'en alla de nouveau et pria, en disant les mêmes paroles.	39 Again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.
40 De nouveau il vint et les trouva endormis, car leurs yeux étaient alourdis; et ils ne savaient que luirépondre.	40 And once more he came back and found them sleeping, their eyes were so heavy; and they couldfind no answer for him.
41 Une troisième fois il vient et leur dit: "Désormais vous pouvez dormir et vous reposer. C'en est fait.L'heure est venue: voici que le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs.	41 He came back a third time and said to them, 'You can sleep on now and have your rest. It is al over.The hour has come. Now the Son of man is to be betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Levez-vous! Allons! Voici que celui qui me livre est tout proche."	42 Get up! Let us go! My betrayer is not far away.'
43 Et aussitôt, comme il parlait encore, survient Judas, l'un des Douze, et avec lui une bande armée deglaives et de bâtons, venant de la part des grands prêtres, des scribes et des anciens.	43 And at once, while he was stil speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up and with him a numberof men armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 Or, le traître leur avait donné ce signe convenu: "Celui à qui je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui; arrêtez-le et emmenez-le sous bonne garde."	44 Now the traitor had arranged a signal with them saying, 'The one I kiss, he is the man. Arrest him,and see he is well guarded when you lead him away.'
45 Et aussitôt arrivé, il s'approcha de lui en disant: "Rabbi", et il lui donna un baiser.	45 So when the traitor came, he went up to Jesus at once and said, 'Rabbi!' and kissed him.
46 Les autres mirent la main sur lui et l'arrêtèrent.	46 The others seized him and arrested him.
47 Alors l'un des assistants, dégainant son glaive, frappa le serviteur du Grand Prêtre et lui enleval'oreille.	47 Then one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck out at the high priest's servant and cut off hisear.
48 S'adressant à eux, Jésus leur dit: "Suis-je un brigand, que vous vous soyez mis en campagne avecdes glaives et des bâtons pour me saisir!	48 Then Jesus spoke. 'Am I a bandit,' he said, 'that you had to set out to capture me with swords andclubs?
49 Chaque jour j'étais auprès de vous dans le Temple, à enseigner, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté. Maisc'est pour que les Ecritures s'accomplissent."	49 I was among you teaching in the Temple day after day and you never laid a hand on me. But this isto fulfil the scriptures.'
50 Et, l'abandonnant, ils prirent tous la fuite.	50 And they al deserted him and ran away.
51 Un jeune homme le suivait, n'ayant pour tout vêtement qu'un drap, et on le saisit;	51 A young man fol owed with nothing on but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him,
52 mais lui, lâchant le drap, s'enfuit tout nu.	52 but he left the cloth in their hands and ran away naked.
53 Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le Grand Prêtre, et tous les grands prêtres, les anciens et les scribes serassemblent.	53 They led Jesus off to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribesassembled there.
54 Pierre l'avait suivi de loin jusqu'à l'intérieur du palais du Grand Prêtre et, assis avec les valets, ils sechauffait à la flambée.	54 Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the high priest's palace, and was sitting with theattendants warming himself at the fire.
55 Or, les grands prêtres et tout le Sanhédrin cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le fairemourir et ils n'en trouvaient pas.	55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus in order to havehim executed. But they could not find any.
56 Car plusieurs déposaient faussement contre lui et leurs témoignages ne concordaient pas.	56 Several, indeed, brought false witness against him, but their evidence was conflicting.
57 Quelques-uns se levèrent pour porter contre lui ce faux témoignage:	57 Some stood up and submitted this false evidence against him,
58 "Nous l'avons entendu qui disait: Je détruirai ce Sanctuaire fait de main d'homme et en trois joursj'en rebâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme."	58 'We heard him say, "I am going to destroy this Temple made by human hands, and in three daysbuild another, not made by human hands." '
59 Et sur cela même leurs dépositions n'étaient pas d'accord.	59 But even on this point their evidence was conflicting.
60 Se levant alors au milieu, le Grand Prêtre interrogea Jésus: "Tu ne réponds rien? Qu'est-ce que cesgens attestent contre toi?"	60 The high priest then rose before the whole assembly and put this question to Jesus, 'Have you noanswer to that? What is this evidence these men are bringing against you?'
61 Mais lui se taisait et ne répondit rien. De nouveau le Grand Prêtre l'interrogeait, et il lui dit: "Tu esle Christ, le Fils du Béni" --	61 But he was silent and made no answer at all. The high priest put a second question to him saying,'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?'
62 "Je le suis, dit Jésus, et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siégeant à la droite de la Puissance et venantavec les nuées du ciel."	62 'I am,' said Jesus, 'and you wil see the Son of man seated at the right hand of the Power and comingwith the clouds of heaven.'
63 Alors le Grand Prêtre déchira ses tuniques et dit: "Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins?	63 The high priest tore his robes and said, 'What need of witnesses have we now?
64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème; que vous en semble?" Tous prononcèrent qu'il était passible demort.	64 You heard the blasphemy. What is your finding?' Their verdict was unanimous: he deserved to die.
65 Et quelques-uns se mirent à lui cracher au visage, à le gifler et à lui dire: "Fais le prophète!" Et lesvalets le bourrèrent de coups.	65 Some of them started spitting at his face, hitting him and saying, 'Play the prophet!' And theattendants struck him too.
66 Comme Pierre était en bas dans la cour, arrive une des servantes du Grand Prêtre.	66 While Peter was down below in the courtyard, one of the high priest's servant-girls came up.
67 Voyant Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le dévisagea et dit: "Toi aussi, tu étais avec le Nazarénien Jésus."	67 She saw Peter warming himself there, looked closely at him and said, 'You too were with Jesus, theman from Nazareth.'
68 Mais lui nia en disant: "Je ne sais pas, je ne comprends pas ce que tu dis." Puis il se retira dehorsvers le vestibule et un coq chanta.	68 But he denied it. 'I do not know, I do not understand what you are talking about,' he said. And hewent out into the forecourt, and a cock crowed.
69 La servante, l'ayant vu, recommença à dire aux assistants: "Celui-là en est!"	69 The servant-girl saw him and again started tel ing the bystanders, 'This man is one of them.'
70 Mais de nouveau il niait. Peu après, à leur tour, les assistants disaient à Pierre: "Vraiment tu en es;et d'ailleurs tu es Galiléen."	70 But again he denied it. A little later the bystanders themselves said to Peter, 'You are certainly one ofthem! Why, you are a Galilean.'
71 Mais il se mit à jurer avec force imprécations: "Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez."	71 But he started cursing and swearing, 'I do not know the man you speak of.'
72 Et aussitôt, pour la seconde fois, un coq chanta. Et Pierre se ressouvint de la parole que Jésus luiavait dite: "Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu m'auras renié trois fois." Et il éclata en sanglots.	72 And at once the cock crowed for the second time, and Peter recalled what Jesus had said to him,'Before the cock crows twice, you will have disowned me three times.' And he burst into tears.
