Évangile selon Matthieu 18

1 A ce moment les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et dirent: "Qui donc est le plus grand dans leRoyaume des Cieux?"	1 In that hour, the disciples drew near to Jesus, saying, “Whom do you consider to be greater in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 Il appela à lui un petit enfant, le plaça au milieu d'eux	2 And Jesus, calling to himself a little child, placed him in their midst.
3 et dit: "En vérité je vous le dis, si vous ne retournez à l'état des enfants, vous n'entrerez pas dansle Royaume des Cieux.	3 And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Qui donc se fera petit comme ce petit enfant-là, celui-là est le plus grand dans le Royaume desCieux.	4 Therefore, whoever will have humbled himself like this little child, such a one is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
5 "Quiconque accueille un petit enfant tel que lui à cause de mon nom, c'est moi qu'il accueille.	5 And whoever shall accept one such little child in my name, accepts me.
6 Mais si quelqu'un doit scandaliser l'un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il serait préférable pour luide se voir suspendre autour du cou une de ces meules que tournent les ânes et d'être englouti en pleine mer.	6 But whoever will have led astray one of these little ones, who trust in me, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be submerged in the depths of the sea.
7 Malheur au monde à cause des scandales! Il est fatal, certes, qu'il arrive des scandales, maismalheur à l'homme par qui le scandale arrive!	7 Woe to a world that leads people astray! Although it is necessary for temptations to arise, nevertheless: Woe to that man through whom temptation arises!
8 "Si ta main ou ton pied sont pour toi une occasion de péché, coupe-les et jette-les loin de toi:mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la Vie manchot ou estropié que d'être jeté avec tes deux mains ou tes deux piedsdans le feu éternel.	8 So if your hand or your foot leads you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life disabled or lame, than to be sent into eternal fire having two hands or two feet.
9 Et si ton oeil est pour toi une occasion de péché, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi: mieux vaut pourtoi entrer borgne dans la Vie que d'être jeté avec tes deux yeux dans la géhenne de feu.	9 And if your eye leads you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than to be sent into the fires of Hell having two eyes.
10 "Gardez-vous de mépriser aucun de ces petits: car, je vous le dis, leurs anges aux cieux voientconstamment la face de mon Père qui est aux cieux.	10 See to it that you do not despise even one of these little ones. For I say to you, that their Angels in heaven continually look upon the face of my Father, who is in heaven.
	11 For the Son of man has come to save what had been lost.
12 "A votre avis, si un homme possède cent brebis et qu'une d'elles vienne à s'égarer, ne va-t-il paslaisser les 99 autres sur les montagnes pour s'en aller à la recherche de l'égarée?	12 How does it seem to you? If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go out to seek what has gone astray?
13 Et s'il parvient à la retrouver, en vérité je vous le dis, il tire plus de joie d'elle que des 99 qui nese sont pas égarées.	13 And if he should happen to find it: Amen I say to you, that he has more joy over that one, than over the ninety-nine which did not go astray.
14 Ainsi on ne veut pas, chez votre Père qui est aux cieux, qu'un seul de ces petits se perde.	14 Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.
15 "Si ton frère vient à pécher, va le trouver et reprends-le, seul à seul. S'il t'écoute, tu auras gagnéton frère.	15 But if your brother has sinned against you, go and correct him, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you will have regained your brother.
16 S'il n'écoute pas, prends encore avec toi un ou deux autres, pour que toute affaire soit décidéesur la parole de deux ou trois témoins.	16 But if he will not listen you, invite with you one or two more, so that every word may stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.
17 Que s'il refuse de les écouter, dis-le à la communauté. Et s'il refuse d'écouter même lacommunauté, qu'il soit pour toi comme le païen et le publicain.	17 And if he will not listen to them, tell the Church. But if he will not listen to the Church, let him be to you like the pagan and the tax collector.
18 "En vérité je vous le dis: tout ce que vous lierez sur la terre sera tenu au ciel pour lié, et tout ceque vous délierez sur la terre sera tenu au ciel pour délié.	18 Amen I say to you, whatever you will have bound on earth, shall be bound also in heaven, and whatever you will have released on earth, shall be released also in heaven.
19 "De même, je vous le dis en vérité, si deux d'entre vous, sur la terre, unissent leurs voix pourdemander quoi que ce soit, cela leur sera accordé par mon Père qui est aux cieux.	19 Again I say to you, that if two of those among you have agreed on earth, about anything whatsoever that they have requested, it shall be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.
20 Que deux ou trois, en effet, soient réunis en mon nom, je suis là au milieu d'eux."	20 For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I, in their midst.”
21 Alors Pierre, s'avançant, lui dit: "Seigneur, combien de fois mon frère pourra-t-il pécher contremoi et devrai-je lui pardonner? Irai-je jusqu'à sept fois?"	21 Then Peter, drawing near to him, said: “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Even seven times?”
22 Jésus lui dit: "Je ne te dis pas jusqu'à sept fois, mais jusqu'à 77 fois.	22 Jesus said to him: “I do not say to you, even seven times, but even seventy times seven times.
23 "A ce propos, il en va du Royaume des Cieux comme d'un roi qui voulut régler ses comptesavec ses serviteurs.	23 Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is compared to a man who was king, who wanted to take account of his servants.
24 L'opération commencée, on lui en amena un qui devait 10.000 talents.	24 And when he had begun taking account, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
25 Cet homme n'ayant pas de quoi rendre, le maître donna l'ordre de le vendre, avec sa femme, sesenfants et tous ses biens, et d'éteindre ainsi la dette.	25 But since he did not have any way to repay it, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, in order to repay it.
26 Le serviteur alors se jeta à ses pieds et il s'y tenait prosterné en disant: Consens-moi un délai, etje te rendrai tout.	26 But that servant, falling prostrate, begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
27 Apitoyé, le maître de ce serviteur le relâcha et lui fit remise de sa dette.	27 Then the lord of that servant, being moved with pity, released him, and he forgave his debt.
28 En sortant, ce serviteur rencontra un de ses compagnons, qui lui devait cent deniers; il le prit à lagorge et le serrait à l'étrangler, en lui disant: Rends tout ce que tu dois.	28 But when that servant departed, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarius. And taking hold of him, he choked him, saying: ‘Repay what you owe.’
29 Son compagnon alors se jeta à ses pieds et il le suppliait en disant: Consens-moi un délai, et je terendrai.	29 And his fellow servant, falling prostrate, petitioned him, saying: ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
30 Mais l'autre n'y consentit pas; au contraire, il s'en alla le faire jeter en prison, en attendant qu'ileût remboursé son dû.	30 But he was not willing. Instead, he went out and had him sent to prison, until he would repay the debt.
31 Voyant ce qui s'était passé, ses compagnons en furent navrés, et ils allèrent raconter toutel'affaire à leur maître.	31 Now his fellow servants, seeing what was done, were greatly saddened, and they went and reported to their lord all that was done.
32 Alors celui-ci le fit venir et lui dit: Serviteur méchant, toute cette somme que tu me devais, jet'en ai fait remise, parce que tu m'as supplié;	32 Then his lord called him, and he said to him: ‘You wicked servant, I forgave you all your debt, because you pleaded with me.
33 ne devais-tu pas, toi aussi, avoir pitié de ton compagnon comme moi j'ai eu pitié de toi?	33 Therefore, should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I also had compassion on you?’
34 Et dans son courroux son maître le livra aux tortionnaires, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût remboursé toutson dû.	34 And his lord, being angry, handed him over to the torturers, until he repaid the entire debt.
35 C'est ainsi que vous traitera aussi mon Père céleste, si chacun de vous ne pardonne pas à sonfrère du fond du coeur."	35 So, too, shall my heavenly Father do to you, if each one of you will not forgive his brother from your hearts.”
