JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Le roi d'Arad, le Cananéen habitant au Négeb, apprit qu'Israël venait par la route d'Atarim. Ilattaqua Israël et lui fit des prisonniers.	1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
2 Israël fit alors ce voeu à Yahvé: "Si tu livres ce peuple en mon pouvoir, je vouerai ses villes àl'anathème."	2 And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
3 Yahvé écouta la voix d'Israël et livra les Cananéens en son pouvoir. Ils les vouèrent à l'anathème,eux et leurs villes. On donna à ce lieu le nom de Horma.	3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
4 Ils partirent de Hor-la-Montagne par la route de la mer de Suph, pour contourner le pays d'Edom.En chemin, le peuple perdit patience.	4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5 Il parla contre Dieu et contre Moïse: "Pourquoi nous avez-vous fait monter d'Egypte pour mouriren ce désert? Car il n'y a ni pain ni eau; nous sommes excédés de cette nourriture de famine."	5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
6 Dieu envoya alors contre le peuple les serpents brûlants, dont la morsure fit périr beaucoup demonde en Israël.	6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7 Le peuple vint dire à Moïse: "Nous avons péché en parlant contre Yahvé et contre toi. Intercèdeauprès de Yahvé pour qu'il éloigne de nous ces serpents." Moïse intercéda pour le peuple	7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8 et Yahvé lui répondit: "Façonne-toi un Brûlant que tu placeras sur un étendard. Quiconque auraété mordu et le regardera restera en vie."	8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9 Moïse façonna donc un serpent d'airain qu'il plaça sur l'étendard, et si un homme était mordu parquelque serpent, il regardait le serpent d'airain et restait en vie.	9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10 Les Israélites partirent et campèrent à Obot.	10 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
11 Puis ils partirent d'Obot et campèrent à Iyyé-ha-Abarim, dans le désert qui confine à Moab, ducôté du soleil levant.	11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
12 Ils partirent de là et campèrent dans le torrent de Zéred.	12 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
13 Ils partirent de là et campèrent au-delà de l'Arnon. Ce torrent sortait, dans le désert, du pays desAmorites. Car l'Arnon était à la frontière de Moab, entre les Moabites et les Amorites.	13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14 Aussi est-il dit dans le livre des Guerres de Yahvé: Vaheb... près de Supha et le torrent d'Arnon	14 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
15 et la pente du ravin qui s'incline vers le site d'Ar et s'appuie à la frontière de Moab.	15 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
16 Et de là ils allèrent à Béer -- C'est au sujet de ce puits que Yahvé avait dit à Moïse: "Rassemblele peuple et je leur donnerai de l'eau."	16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17 Alors Israël chanta ce cantique: Sur le Puits. Chantez-le,	17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18 le Puits qu'ont creusé des princes, qu'ont foré les chefs du peuple, avec le sceptre, avec leursbâtons. -- et du désert à Mattana,	18 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
19 Malheur Mattana à Nahaliel, de Nahaliel à Bamot,	19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
20 et de Bamot à la vallée qui s'ouvre dans la campagne de Moab, vers les hauteurs du Pisga, quifait face au désert et le domine.	20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
21 Israël envoya des messagers dire à Sihôn, roi des Amorites:	21 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22 "Je voudrais traverser ton pays. Nous ne nous écarterons pas à travers les champs ni les vignes;nous ne boirons pas l'eau des puits; nous suivrons la route royale, jusqu'à ce que nous ayons traversé tonterritoire."	22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.
23 Mais Sihôn ne laissa pas Israël traverser son pays. Il rassembla tout son peuple, marcha dans ledésert à la rencontre d'Israël et atteignit Yahaç, où il livra bataille à Israël.	23 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24 Israël le frappa du tranchant de l'épée et conquit son pays, depuis l'Arnon jusqu'au Yabboq,jusqu'aux fils d'Ammon, car Yazèr se trouvait à la frontière ammonite.	24 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
25 Israël s'empara de toutes ces villes. Il occupa toutes les villes des Amorites, Heshbôn et toutesses dépendances.	25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
26 Heshbôn était en effet la capitale de Sihôn, roi des Amorites. C'est Sihôn qui avait fait la guerreau premier roi de Moab et lui avait enlevé tout son pays jusqu'à l'Arnon.	26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27 C'est pourquoi les poètes disent: Venez à Heshbôn, qu'elle soit rebâtie, qu'elle soit bien fondéela ville de Sihôn!	27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
28 Un feu est sorti de Heshbôn, une flamme de la cité de Sihôn, elle a dévoré Ar-Moab, engloutiles hauteurs de l'Arnon.	28 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
29 Malheur à toi, Moab! Tu es perdu, peuple de Kemosh! Il fait de ses fils des fuyards et de sesfilles des captives du roi des Amorites, de Sihôn.	29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
30 Mais leur postérité a été détruite depuis Heshbôn jusqu'à Dibôn, et nous avons mis le feu depuisNophah et jusqu'à Médba.	30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
31 Israël s'établit dans le pays des Amorites.	31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32 Moïse envoya espionner Yazèr, et Israël la prit ainsi que ses dépendances; il déposséda lesAmorites qui y habitaient.	32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
33 Puis ils prirent la direction du Bashân et ils y montèrent. Le roi du Bashân, Og, marcha à leurrencontre avec tout son peuple pour livrer bataille à Edréï.	33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Ne crains pas, car j'ai livré en ton pouvoir, lui, tout son peuple et son pays.Tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Sihôn, roi des Amorites, qui habitait à Heshbôn."	34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35 Ils le battirent, lui, ses fils et son peuple, sans que personne en réchappât. Ils prirent possessionde son pays.	35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
