JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Voici ce que me fit voir le Seigneur Yahvé: C'était une éclosion de sauterelles, au temps où le regaincommence à monter, de sauterelles adultes, après la coupe du roi.	1 This is what the Lord GOD showed me: He was forming a locust swarm when the late growth began to come up (the late growth after the king's mowing).
2 Et comme elles achevaient de dévorer l'herbe du pays, je dis: "Seigneur Yahvé, pardonne, je t'en prie!Comment Jacob tiendra-t-il? Il est si petit!"	2 While they were eating all the grass in the land, I said: Forgive, O Lord GOD! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!
3 Yahvé en eut du repentir: "Cela ne sera pas", dit Yahvé.	3 And the LORD repented of this. "It shall not be," said the Lord GOD.
4 Voici ce que me fit voir le Seigneur Yahvé: Le Seigneur Yahvé appelait le feu pour châtier; celui-cidévora le grand Abîme, puis il dévora la campagne.	4 Then the Lord GOD showed me this: he called for a judgment by fire. It had devoured the great abyss, and was consuming the land,
5 Je dis: "Seigneur Yahvé, cesse, je t'en prie! Comment Jacob tiendra-t-il? Il est si petit!"	5 when I said: Cease, O Lord GOD! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!
6 Yahvé en eut du repentir: "Cela non plus ne sera pas", dit le Seigneur Yahvé.	6 The LORD repented of this. "This also shall not be," said the Lord GOD.
7 Voici ce qu'il me fit voir: Le Seigneur se tenait près d'un mur, un fil à plomb dans la main.	7 Then the Lord GOD showed me this: he was standing by a wall, plummet in hand.
8 Yahvé me dit: "Que vois-tu, Amos?" Je dis: "Un fil à plomb." Le Seigneur dit: "Voici que je vaismettre un fil à plomb au milieu de mon peuple, Israël, désormais je ne lui pardonnerai plus.	8 The LORD asked me, "What do you see, Amos?" And when I answered, "A plummet," the Lord said: See, I will lay the plummet in the midst of my people Israel; I will forgive them no longer.
9 Les hauts lieux d'Isaac seront dévastés, les sanctuaires d'Israël détruits, et je me lèverai contre lamaison de Jéroboam avec l'épée."	9 The high places of Isaac shall be laid waste, and the sanctuaries of Israel made desolate; I will attack the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10 Alors Amasias, le prêtre de Béthel, envoya dire à Jéroboam, roi d'Israël: "Amos conspire contre toi,au sein de la maison d'Israël; le pays ne peut tolérer ses discours.	10 Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam, king of Israel: "Amos has conspired against you here within Israel; the country cannot endure all his words.
11 Car ainsi parle Amos: Jéroboam périra par l'épée et Israël sera déporté loin de sa terre."	11 For this is what Amos says: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be exiled from its land."
12 Et Amasias dit à Amos: "Voyant, va-t'en; fuis au pays de Juda; mange ton pain là-bas, et là-basprophétise.	12 To Amos, Amaziah said: "Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah! There earn your bread by prophesying,
13 Mais à Béthel, cesse désormais de prophétiser, car c'est un sanctuaire royal, un temple du royaume."	13 but never again prophesy in Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary and a royal temple."
14 Amos répondit et dit à Amasias: "Je ne suis pas prophète, je ne suis pas frère prophète; je suisbouvier et pinceur de sycomores.	14 Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.
15 Mais Yahvé m'a pris de derrière le troupeau et Yahvé m'a dit: Va, prophétise à mon peuple Israël.	15 The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.
16 Et maintenant, écoute la parole de Yahvé: Tu dis: Tu ne prophétiseras pas contre Israël, tu nevaticineras pas contre la maison d'Isaac.	16 Now hear the word of the LORD!" You say: prophesy not against Israel, preach not against the house of Isaac.
17 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé: Ta femme se prostituera dans la ville, tes fils et tes fillestomberont sous l'épée, ta terre sera partagée au cordeau, et toi, tu mourras sur une terre impure, et Israël seradéporté loin de sa terre."	17 Now thus says the LORD: Your wife shall be made a harlot in the city, and your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword; Your land shall be divided by measuring line, and you yourself shall die in an unclean land; Israel shall be exiled far from its land.
