| 1 Ecoutez la parole de Yahvé, enfants d'Israël, car Yahvé est en procès avec les habitants du pays: il n'ya ni fidélité ni amour, ni connaissance de Dieu dans le pays, | 1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel; for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or kindness, and no knowledge of God in the land; |
| 2 mais parjure et mensonge, assassinat et vol, adultère et violence, et le sang versé succède au sangversé. | 2 there is swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds and murder follows murder. |
| 3 Voilà pourquoi le pays est en deuil et tous ses habitants dépérissent, jusqu'aux bêtes des champs et auxoiseaux du ciel, et même les poissons de la mer disparaîtront. | 3 Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it languish, and also the beasts of the field, and the birds of the air; and even the fish of the sea are taken away. |
| 4 Pourtant que nul n'intente procès, que nul ne réprimande! C'est avec toi, prêtre, que je suis en procès. | 4 Yet let no one contend, and let none accuse, for with you is my contention, O priest. |
| 5 Tu trébucheras en plein jour, le prophète aussi trébuchera, la nuit, avec toi, et je ferai périr ta mère. | 5 You shall stumble by day, the prophet also shall stumble with you by night; and I will destroy your mother. |
| 6 Mon peuple périt, faute de connaissance. Puisque toi, tu as rejeté la connaissance, je te rejetterai demon sacerdoce; puisque tu as oublié l'enseignement de ton Dieu, à mon tour, j'oublierai tes fils. | 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. |
| 7 Tous tant qu'ils sont, ils ont péché contre moi, ils ont échangé leur Gloire contre l'Ignominie. | 7 The more they increased, the more they sinned against me; I will change their glory into shame. |
| 8 Du péché de mon peuple, ils se nourrissent, de sa faute, ils sont avides. | 8 They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity. |
| 9 Mais il en sera du prêtre comme du peuple: je lui ferai expier sa conduite, je lui revaudrai ses oeuvres. | 9 And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways, and requite them for their deeds. |
| 10 Ils mangeront, mais sans se rassasier, ils se prostitueront, mais sans s'accroître, car ils ont abandonnéYahvé pour se livrer | 10 They shall eat, but not be satisfied; they shall play the harlot, but not multiply; because they have forsaken the LORD to cherish harlotry. |
| 11 à la prostitution. Le vin et le moût font perdre le sens. | 11 Wine and new wine take away the understanding. |
| 12 Mon peuple consulte son morceau de bois, c'est son bâton qui le renseigne; car un esprit deprostitution les égare, et ils se prostituent, s'éloignant de leur Dieu. | 12 My people inquire of a thing of wood, and their staff gives them oracles. For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have left their God to play the harlot. |
| 13 Sur le sommet des montagnes, ils sacrifient, sur les collines, ils brûlent de l'encens, sous le chêne, lepeuplier et le térébinthe, car leur ombrage est bon. Voilà pourquoi, si vos filles se prostituent, si vos bruscommettent l'adultère, | 13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and make offerings upon the hills, under oak, poplar, and terebinth, because their shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the harlot, and your brides commit adultery. |
| 14 je ne châtierai pas vos filles pour leurs prostitutions, ni vos brus pour leurs adultères; car eux-mêmesvont à l'écart avec les prostituées, ils sacrifient avec les hiérodules, et le peuple, sans discernement, va à sa perte! | 14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for the men themselves go aside with harlots, and sacrifice with cult prostitutes, and a people without understanding shall come to ruin. |
| 15 Si toi, tu te prostitues, Israël, Que Juda ne se rende pas coupable! N'allez pas à Gilgal, ne montez pasà Bet-Aven, et ne jurez pas "par la vie de Yahvé." | 15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty. Enter not into Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and swear not, "As the LORD lives." |
| 16 Car tel une vache rétive, Israël a été rétif; et maintenant Yahvé le ferait paître comme un agneau dansun vaste pacage? | 16 Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the LORD now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture? |
| 17 Ephraïm est l'allié des idoles, laisse-le! | 17 Ephraim is joined to idols, let him alone. |
| 18 Leur beuverie terminée, ils ne font que se prostituer; ils préfèrent l'Ignominie à leur Orgueil. | 18 A band of drunkards, they give themselves to harlotry; they love shame more than their glory. |
| 19 Le vent les emportera de ses ailes, et ils auront honte de leurs sacrifices. | 19 A wind has wrapped them in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars. |
