Livre d'Osée 4

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ecoutez la parole de Yahvé, enfants d'Israël, car Yahvé est en procès avec les habitants du pays: il n'ya ni fidélité ni amour, ni connaissance de Dieu dans le pays,	1 Israelites, hear what Yahweh says, for Yahweh indicts the citizens of the country: there is no loyalty, nofaithful love, no knowledge of God in the country,
2 mais parjure et mensonge, assassinat et vol, adultère et violence, et le sang versé succède au sangversé.	2 only perjury and lying, murder, theft, adultery and violence, bloodshed after bloodshed.
3 Voilà pourquoi le pays est en deuil et tous ses habitants dépérissent, jusqu'aux bêtes des champs et auxoiseaux du ciel, et même les poissons de la mer disparaîtront.	3 This is why the country is in mourning and al its citizens pining away, the wild animals also and birds ofthe sky, even the fish in the sea wil disappear.
4 Pourtant que nul n'intente procès, que nul ne réprimande! C'est avec toi, prêtre, que je suis en procès.	4 But let no one denounce, no one rebuke; it is you, priest, that I denounce.
5 Tu trébucheras en plein jour, le prophète aussi trébuchera, la nuit, avec toi, et je ferai périr ta mère.	5 Priest, you wil stumble in broad daylight, and the prophet will stumble with you in the dark, and I wilmake your mother perish.
6 Mon peuple périt, faute de connaissance. Puisque toi, tu as rejeté la connaissance, je te rejetterai demon sacerdoce; puisque tu as oublié l'enseignement de ton Dieu, à mon tour, j'oublierai tes fils.	6 My people perish for want of knowledge. Since you yourself have rejected knowledge, so I shall rejectyou from my priesthood; since you have forgotten the teaching of your God, I in my turn shal forget yourchildren.
7 Tous tant qu'ils sont, ils ont péché contre moi, ils ont échangé leur Gloire contre l'Ignominie.	7 The more of them there have been, the more they have sinned against me; they have bartered theirGlory for Shame.
8 Du péché de mon peuple, ils se nourrissent, de sa faute, ils sont avides.	8 They feed on the sin of my people, they are greedy for their iniquity.
9 Mais il en sera du prêtre comme du peuple: je lui ferai expier sa conduite, je lui revaudrai ses oeuvres.	9 But as with the people, so with the priest, I shal punish them for their conduct, I shal pay them back fortheir deeds.
10 Ils mangeront, mais sans se rassasier, ils se prostitueront, mais sans s'accroître, car ils ont abandonnéYahvé pour se livrer	10 They will eat but never be satisfied, they wil play the whore but not grow more prolific, since they havedeserted Yahweh to give themselves up
11 à la prostitution. Le vin et le moût font perdre le sens.	11 to whoring. Old wine and new wine addle my people's wits,
12 Mon peuple consulte son morceau de bois, c'est son bâton qui le renseigne; car un esprit deprostitution les égare, et ils se prostituent, s'éloignant de leur Dieu.	12 they consult their block of wood, and their stick explains what they should do. For an urge to gowhoring has led them astray and whoring they go and desert their God;
13 Sur le sommet des montagnes, ils sacrifient, sur les collines, ils brûlent de l'encens, sous le chêne, lepeuplier et le térébinthe, car leur ombrage est bon. Voilà pourquoi, si vos filles se prostituent, si vos bruscommettent l'adultère,	13 they offer sacrifice on the mountain tops, they burn incense on the hil s, under oak and poplar andterebinth, for pleasant is their shade. So, although your daughters play the whore and your daughters-in-lawcommit adultery,
14 je ne châtierai pas vos filles pour leurs prostitutions, ni vos brus pour leurs adultères; car eux-mêmesvont à l'écart avec les prostituées, ils sacrifient avec les hiérodules, et le peuple, sans discernement, va à sa perte!	14 I shal not punish your daughters for playing the whore nor your daughters-in-law for committingadultery, when the men themselves are wandering off with whores and offering sacrifice with sacred prostitutes,for a people with no understanding is doomed.
15 Si toi, tu te prostitues, Israël, Que Juda ne se rende pas coupable! N'allez pas à Gilgal, ne montez pasà Bet-Aven, et ne jurez pas "par la vie de Yahvé."	15 Though you, Israel, play the whore, there is no need for Judah to sin too. Do not go to Gilgal, do notgo up to Beth-Aven, do not swear oaths 'by Yahweh's life',
16 Car tel une vache rétive, Israël a été rétif; et maintenant Yahvé le ferait paître comme un agneau dansun vaste pacage?	16 for Israel is as stubborn as a stubborn heifer; so is Yahweh likely to pasture him like a lamb in a broadmeadow?
17 Ephraïm est l'allié des idoles, laisse-le!	17 Ephraim has made a pact with idols- let him alone!
18 Leur beuverie terminée, ils ne font que se prostituer; ils préfèrent l'Ignominie à leur Orgueil.	18 Their drunken orgy over, they do nothing but play the whore, preferring Shame to their Pride;
19 Le vent les emportera de ses ailes, et ils auront honte de leurs sacrifices.	19 the wind with its wings wil carry them off and their sacrifices wil bring them nothing but disgrace.
