JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Le nombre des enfants d'Israël sera comme le sable de la mer, qu'on ne peut ni mesurer ni compter; aulieu même où on leur disait: "Vous n'êtes pas mon peuple", on leur dira: "Fils du Dieu vivant."	1 Protest against your mother, protest! for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove her harlotry from before her, her adultery from between her breasts,
2 Les enfants de Juda et les enfants d'Israël se réuniront, ils se donneront un chef unique et ilsdéborderont hors du pays; car il sera grand le jour de Yizréel.	2 Or I will strip her naked, leaving her as on the day of her birth; I will make her like the desert, reduce her to an arid land, and slay her with thirst.
3 Dites à vos frères: "Mon Peuple", et à vos soeurs: "Celle dont on a pitié."	3 I will have no pity on her children, for they are the children of harlotry.
4 Intentez procès à votre mère, intentez-lui procès! Car elle n'est pas ma femme, et moi je ne suis pas sonmari. Qu'elle écarte de sa face ses prostitutions, et d'entre ses seins ses adultères.	4 Yes, their mother has played the harlot; she that conceived them has acted shamefully. "I will go after my lovers," she said, "who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink."
5 Sinon je la déshabillerai toute nue et la mettrai comme au jour de sa naissance; je la rendrai pareille audésert, je la réduirai en terre aride, je la ferai mourir de soif,	5 Since she has not known that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil, And her abundance of silver, and of gold, which they used for Baal,
6 et de ses enfants je n'aurai pas pitié, car ce sont des enfants de prostitution.	6 Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my wine in its season; I will snatch away my wool and my flax, with which she covers her nakedness.
7 Oui, leur mère s'est prostituée, celle qui les conçut s'est déshonorée; car elle a dit: je veux courir aprèsmes amants, qui me donnent mon pain et mon eau, ma laine et mon lin, mon huile et ma boisson.	7 So now I will lay bare her shame before the eyes of her lovers, and no one can deliver her out of my hand.
8 C'est pourquoi je vais obstruer son chemin avec des ronces, je l'entourerai d'une barrière pour qu'ellene trouve plus ses sentiers;	8 I will bring an end to all her joy, her feasts, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her solemnities.
9 elle poursuivra ses amants et ne les atteindra pas, elle les cherchera et ne les trouvera pas. Alors elledira: je veux retourner vers mon premier mari, car j'étais plus heureuse alors que maintenant.	9 I will lay waste her vines and fig trees, of which she said, "These are the hire my lovers have given me"; I will turn them into rank growth and wild beasts shall devour them.
10 Elle n'a pas reconnu que c'est moi qui lui donnais le froment, le vin nouveau et l'huile fraîche, qui luiprodiguais cet argent et cet or qu'ils ont employés pour Baal!	10 I will punish her for the days of the Baals, for whom she burnt incense While she decked herself out with her rings and her jewels, and, in going after her lovers, forgot me, says the LORD.
11 C'est pourquoi je reprendrai mon froment en son temps et mon vin nouveau en sa saison; je retireraima laine et mon lin qui devaient couvrir sa nudité.	11 Therefore, I will hedge in her way with thorns and erect a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.
12 Puis je dévoilerai son infamie aux yeux de ses amants et personne ne la délivrera de ma main.	12 If she runs after her lovers, she shall not overtake them; if she looks for them she shall not find them. Then she shall say, "I will go back to my first husband, for it was better with me then than now."
13 Je ferai cesser toutes ses réjouissances, ses fêtes, ses néoménies, ses sabbats et toutes ses solennités.	13 So I will allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart.
14 Je dévasterai sa vigne et son figuier, dont elle disait: Ils sont le salaire que m'ont donné mes amants;j'en ferai un hallier et la bête sauvage les dévorera.	14 From there I will give her the vineyards she had, and the valley of Achor as a door of hope. She shall respond there as in the days of her youth, when she came up from the land of Egypt.
15 Je la châtierai pour les jours des Baals auxquels elle brûlait de l'encens, quand elle se parait de sonanneau et de son collier et qu'elle courait après ses amants; et moi, elle m'oubliait! - Oracle de Yahvé.	15 On that day, says the LORD, She shall call me "My husband," and never again "My baal."
16 C'est pourquoi je vais la séduire, je la conduirai au désert et je parlerai à son coeur.	16 Then will I remove from her mouth the names of the Baals, so that they shall no longer be invoked.
17 Là, je lui rendrai ses vignobles, et je ferai du val d'Akor une porte d'espérance. Là, elle répondracomme aux jours de sa jeunesse, comme au jour où elle montait du pays d'Egypte.	17 I will make a covenant for them on that day, with the beasts of the field, With the birds of the air, and with the things that crawl on the ground. Bow and sword and war I will destroy from the land, and I will let them take their rest in security.
18 Il adviendra en ce jour-là - oracle de Yahvé - que tu m'appelleras "Mon mari", et tu ne m'appellerasplus "Mon Baal."	18 I will espouse you to me forever: I will espouse you in right and in justice, in love and in mercy;
19 J'écarterai de sa bouche les noms des Baals, et ils ne seront plus mentionnés par leur nom.	19 I will espouse you in fidelity, and you shall know the LORD.
20 Je conclurai pour eux une alliance, en ce jour-là, avec les bêtes des champs, avec les oiseaux du cielet les reptiles du sol; l'arc, l'épée, la guerre, je les briserai et les bannirai du pays, et eux, je les ferai reposer ensécurité.	20 On that day I will respond, says the LORD; I will respond to the heavens, and they shall respond to the earth;
21 Je te fiancerai à moi pour toujours; je te fiancerai dans la justice et dans le droit, dans la tendresse etla miséricorde;	21 The earth shall respond to the grain, and wine, and oil, and these shall respond to Jezreel.
22 je te fiancerai à moi dans la fidélité, et tu connaîtras Yahvé.	22 I will sow him for myself in the land, and I will have pity on Lo-ruhama. I will say to Lo-ammi, "You are my people," and he shall say, "My God!"
23 Il adviendra, en ce jour-là, que je répondrai - oracle de Yahvé - je répondrai aux cieux et euxrépondront à la terre;
24 la terre répondra au froment, au vin nouveau et à l'huile fraîche, et eux répondront à Yizréel.
25 Je la sèmerai dans le pays, j'aurai pitié de Lo-Ruhamah, je dirai à Lo-Ammi: "Tu es mon peuple" etlui dira: "Mon Dieu!"
