JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Il me dit: "Fils d'homme, ce qui t'est présenté, mange-le; mange ce volume et va parler à la maisond'Israël."	1 He said to me: Son of man, eat what is before you; eat this scroll, then go, speak to the house of Israel.
2 J'ouvris la bouche et il me fit manger ce volume,	2 So I opened my mouth and he gave me the scroll to eat.
3 puis il me dit: "Fils d'homme, nourris-toi et rassasie-toi de ce volume que je te donne." Je lemangeai et, dans ma bouche, il fut doux comme du miel.	3 Son of man, he then said to me, feed your belly and fill your stomach with this scroll I am giving you. I ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. He said:
4 Alors il me dit: "Fils d'homme, va-t'en vers la maison d'Israël et tu leur porteras mes paroles.	4 Son of man, go now to the house of Israel, and speak my words to them.
5 Ce n'est pas vers un peuple au parler obscur et à la langue difficile que tu es envoyé, c'est vers lamaison d'Israël.	5 Not to a people with difficult speech and barbarous language am I sending you,
6 Ce n'est pas vers des peuples nombreux, au parler obscur et à la langue difficile, dont tun'entendrais pas les paroles - si je t'envoyais vers eux, ils t'écouteraient -	6 nor to the many peoples (with difficult speech and barbarous language) whose words you cannot understand. If I were to send you to these, they would listen to you;
7 mais la maison d'Israël ne veux pas t'écouter car elle ne veut pas m'écouter. Toute la maisond'Israël n'est que fronts endurcis et coeurs obstinés.	7 but the house of Israel will refuse to listen to you, since they will not listen to me. For the whole house of Israel is stubborn of brow and obstinate in heart.
8 Voici que je rends ton visage aussi dur que leur visage, et ton front aussi dur que leur front;	8 But I will make your face as hard as theirs, and your brow as stubborn as theirs,
9 je rends ton front dur comme le diamant, qui est plus dur que le roc. N'aie pas peur d'eux, sois sanscrainte devant eux, car c'est une engeance de rebelles."	9 like diamond, harder than flint. Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.
10 Puis il me dit: "Fils d'homme, toutes les paroles que je te dirai, reçois-les dans ton coeur, écoutede toutes tes oreilles,	10 Son of man, he said to me, take into your heart all my words that I speak to you; hear them well.
11 et va-t'en vers les exilés, vers les fils de ton peuple pour leur parler. Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle leSeigneur Yahvé, qu'ils écoutent ou qu'ils n'écoutent pas."	11 Now go to the exiles, to your countrymen, and say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD!--whether they heed or resist!
12 L'esprit m'enleva et j'entendis derrière moi le bruit d'un grand tremblement: "Bénie soit la gloirede Yahvé au lieu de son séjour!"	12 Then spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the noise of a loud rumbling as the glory of the LORD rose from its place:
13 C'était le bruit que faisaient les ailes des animaux, battant l'une contre l'autre, et le bruit des rouesà côté d'eux, et le bruit d'un grand tremblement.	13 the noise made by the wings of the living creatures striking one another, and by the wheels alongside them, a loud rumbling.
14 Et l'esprit m'enleva et me prit; j'allai amer, l'esprit enfiévré, et la main de Yahvé pesait fortementsur moi.	14 The spirit which had lifted me up seized me, and I went off spiritually stirred, while the hand of the LORD rested heavily upon me.
15 J'arrivai à Tell Abib, chez les exilés installés près du fleuve Kebar; c'est là qu'ils habitaient, et j'yrestai sept jours, frappé de stupeur, au milieu d'eux.	15 Thus I came to the exiles who lived at Tel-abib by the river Chebar, and for seven days I sat among them distraught.
16 Or, au bout de sept jours, la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes:	16 At the end of seven days. . .
17 "Fils d'homme, je t'ai fait guetteur pour la maison d'Israël. Lorsque tu entendras une parole de mabouche, tu les avertiras de ma part.	17 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, you shall warn them for me.
18 Si je dis au méchant: Tu vas mourir, et que tu ne l'avertis pas, si tu ne parles pas pour avertir leméchant d'abandonner sa conduite mauvaise afin qu'il vive, le méchant, lui, mourra de sa faute, mais c'est à toique je demanderai compte de son sang.	18 If I say to the wicked man, You shall surely die; and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his wicked conduct so that he may live: that wicked man shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death.
19 Si au contraire tu as averti le méchant et qu'il ne s'est pas converti de sa méchanceté et de samauvaise conduite, il mourra, lui, de sa faute, mais toi, tu auras sauvé ta vie.	19 If, on the other hand, you have warned the wicked man, yet he has not turned away from his evil nor from his wicked conduct, then he shall die for his sin, but you shall save your life.
20 Lorsque le juste se détournera de sa justice pour commettre le mal et que je mettrai un piègedevant lui, c'est lui qui mourra; parce que tu ne l'auras pas averti, il mourra de son péché et on ne se souviendraplus de la justice qu'il a pratiquée, mais je te demanderai compte de son sang.	20 If a virtuous man turns away from virtue and does wrong when I place a stumbling block before him, he shall die. He shall die for his sin, and his virtuous deeds shall not be remembered; but I will hold you responsible for his death if you did not warn him.
21 Si au contraire tu as averti le juste de ne pas pécher et qu'il n'a pas péché, il vivra parce qu'il auraété averti, et toi, tu auras sauvé ta vie."	21 When, on the other hand, you have warned a virtuous man not to sin, and he has in fact not sinned, he shall surely live because of the warning, and you shall save your own life.
22 C'est là que la main de Yahvé fut sur moi; il me dit: "Lève-toi, sors dans la vallée, et là, je vais teparler."	22 The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he said to me: Get up and go out into the plain, where I will speak with you.
23 Je me levai et je sortis dans la vallée, et voilà que la gloire de Yahvé y était arrêtée, semblable à lagloire que j'avais vue au bord du fleuve Kebar, et je tombai la face contre terre.	23 So I got up and went out into the plain, and I saw that the glory of the LORD was in that place, like the glory I had seen by the river Chebar. I fell prone,
24 Alors l'esprit entra en moi, il me fit tenir debout et me parla. Il me dit: "Va t'enfermer dans tamaison.	24 but then spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and he spoke with me. He said to me: Go shut yourself up in your house.
25 Toi, fils d'homme, voici qu'on va te mettre des liens, on t'en ligotera et tu ne sortiras plus aumilieu d'eux.	25 (As for you, son of man, they will put cords upon you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them.)
26 Je ferai coller ta langue à ton palais, tu seras muet, et tu ne seras plus pour eux celui quiréprimande, car c'est une engeance de rebelles.	26 I will make your tongue stick to your palate so that you will be dumb and unable to rebuke them for being a rebellious house.
27 Et lorsque je te parlerai, je t'ouvrirai la bouche et tu leur diras: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahvé;quiconque veut écouter, qu'il écoute, et quiconque ne le veut pas, qu'il n'écoute pas, car c'est une engeance derebelles."	27 Only when I speak with you and open your mouth, shall you say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD! Let him heed who will, and let him resist who will, for they are a rebellious house.
