| 1 Yahvé me dit: Même si Moïse et Samuel se tenaient devant moi, je n'aurais pas pitié de ce peuple-là! Chasse-les loin de moi: qu'ils s'en aillent! | 1 Then the LORD said to me, "Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go! |
| 2 Et s'ils te disent: Où aller? Tu leur répondras: Ainsi parle Yahvé: Qui est pour la peste, à la peste!qui est pour l'épée, à l'épée! qui est pour la famine, à la famine! qui est pour la captivité, à la captivité! | 2 And when they ask you, 'Where shall we go?' you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: "Those who are for pestilence, to pestilence, and those who are for the sword, to the sword; those who are for famine, to famine, and those who are for captivity, to captivity."' |
| 3 Je vais préposer sur eux quatre sortes de choses - oracle de Yahvé -: l'épée pour tuer; les chienspour traîner; les oiseaux du ciel et les bêtes de la terre pour dévorer et détruire. | 3 "I will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, says the LORD: the sword to slay, the dogs to tear, and the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy. |
| 4 Je ferai d'eux un objet d'épouvante pour tous les royaumes de la terre, à cause de Manassé, filsd'Ezéchias et roi de Juda, pour ce qu'il a fait à Jérusalem. | 4 And I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what Manasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem. |
| 5 Qui donc a compassion de toi, Jérusalem? Qui donc te plaint? Qui donc fait un détour pourdemander comment tu vas? | 5 "Who will have pity on you, O Jerusalem, or who will bemoan you? Who will turn aside to ask about your welfare? |
| 6 Toi-même m'as repoussé - oracle de Yahvé - tu m'as tourné le dos. Alors, j'ai étendu la main contretoi et t'ai détruite: Je suis fatigué de consoler! | 6 You have rejected me, says the LORD, you keep going backward; so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you;--I am weary of relenting. |
| 7 Avec un van je les ai vannés, aux portes du pays. J'ai dépeuplé, j'ai anéanti mon peuple; de leursvoies, ils ne se détournent pas. | 7 I have winnowed them with a winnowing fork in the gates of the land; I have bereaved them, I have destroyed my people; they did not turn from their ways. |
| 8 Leurs veuves sont devenues plus nombreuses que le sable de la mer. Sur la mère du jeune guerrier,j'amène le dévastateur en plein midi, je fais tomber sur elle, soudain, terreur et épouvante. | 8 I have made their widows more in number than the sand of the seas; I have brought against the mothers of young men a destroyer at noonday; I have made anguish and terror fall upon them suddenly. |
| 9 Elle languit, la mère de sept fils, elle défaille. Son soleil s'est couché avant la fin du jour: la voilàhonteuse et consternée; et ce qui reste d'eux, je le livrerai à l'épée, face à leurs ennemis, oracle de Yahvé. | 9 She who bore seven has languished; she has swooned away; her sun went down while it was yet day; she has been shamed and disgraced. And the rest of them I will give to the sword before their enemies, says the LORD." |
| 10 Malheur à moi, ma mère, car tu m'as enfanté homme de querelle et de discorde pour tout le pays!Jamais je ne prête ni n'emprunte, pourtant tout le monde me maudit. | 10 Woe is me, my mother, that you bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me. |
| 11 En vérité, Yahvé, ne t'ai-je pas servi de mon mieux? Ne t'ai-je pas supplié au temps du malheur etde la détresse? | 11 So let it be, O LORD, if I have not entreated thee for their good, if I have not pleaded with thee on behalf of the enemy in the time of trouble and in the time of distress! |
| 12 Le fer brisera-t-il le fer du Nord et le bronze? | 12 Can one break iron, iron from the north, and bronze? |
| 13 Ta richesse et tes trésors, je vais les livrer au pillage, sans contrepartie, à cause de tous les péchés,sur tout ton territoire. | 13 "Your wealth and your treasures I will give as spoil, without price, for all your sins, throughout all your territory. |
| 14 Je te rendrai esclave de tes ennemis dans un pays que tu ne connais pas, car ma fureur a alluméun feu qui va brûler sur vous. | 14 I will make you serve your enemies in a land which you do not know, for in my anger a fire is kindled which shall burn for ever." |
| 15 Toi, tu le sais, Yahvé! Souviens-toi de moi, visite-moi et venge-moi de mes persécuteurs. Dans lalenteur de ta colère ne m'entraîne pas. Reconnais que je subis l'opprobre pour ta cause. | 15 O LORD, thou knowest; remember me and visit me, and take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In thy forbearance take me not away; know that for thy sake I bear reproach. |
| 16 Quand tes paroles se présentaient, je les dévorais: ta parole était mon ravissement et l'allégressede mon coeur. Car c'est ton Nom que je portais, Yahvé, Dieu Sabaot. | 16 Thy words were found, and I ate them, and thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by thy name, O LORD, God of hosts. |
| 17 Jamais je ne m'asseyais dans une réunion de railleurs pour m'y divertir. Sous l'emprise de ta main,je me suis tenu seul, car tu m'avais empli de colère. | 17 I did not sit in the company of merrymakers, nor did I rejoice; I sat alone, because thy hand was upon me, for thou hadst filled me with indignation. |
| 18 Pourquoi ma souffrance est-elle continue, ma blessure incurable, rebelle aux soins? Vraiment tues pour moi comme un ruisseau trompeur aux eaux décevantes! | 18 Why is my pain unceasing, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Wilt thou be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail? |
| 19 Alors Yahvé répondit: Si tu reviens, et que je te fais revenir, tu te tiendras devant moi. Si de cequi est vil tu tires ce qui est noble, tu seras comme ma bouche. Eux reviendront vers toi, mais toi, tu n'as pas àrevenir vers eux! | 19 Therefore thus says the LORD: "If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them. |
| 20 Je ferai de toi, pour ce peuple-là, un rempart de bronze fortifié. Ils lutteront contre toi mais nepourront rien contre toi, car je suis avec toi pour te sauver et te délivrer, oracle de Yahvé. | 20 And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, says the LORD. |
| 21 Je veux te délivrer de la main des méchants et te racheter de la poigne des violents. | 21 I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless." |
