1 Alors Tobie répondit à son père Tobit: "Je ferai, père, tout ce que tu m'as commandé.	1 Then Tobiah replied to his father Tobit: "Everything that you have commanded me, father, I will do.
2 Seulement, comment faire pour lui reprendre ce dépôt? Lui ne me connaît pas, et moi, je ne le connaispas non plus. Quel signe de reconnaissance vais-je lui donner, pour qu'il me croie et qu'il me remette l'argent?De plus, je ne sais pas les routes à prendre pour ce voyage en Médie."	2 But how shall I be able to obtain the money from him, since he does not know me nor do I know him? What can I show him to make him recognize me and trust me, so that he will give me the money? I do not even know which roads to take for the journey into Media!"
3 Alors Tobit répondit à son fils Tobie: "Nous avons échangé nos signatures sur un billet, et je l'aicoupé en deux pour que nous en ayons chacun la moitié. J'ai pris l'une, et j'ai mis l'autre avec l'argent. Dire quecela fait vingt ans que j'ai mis cet argent en dépôt! Maintenant, mon enfant, cherche-toi quelqu'un de sérieuxpour compagnon de voyage, il sera à nos frais jusqu'à ton retour; et puis va toucher cet argent chez Gabaël."	3 Tobit answered his son Tobiah: "We exchanged signatures on a document written in duplicate; I divided it into two parts, and each of us kept one; his copy I put with the money. Think of it, twenty years have already passed since I deposited that money! So now, my son, find yourself a trustworthy man who will make the journey with you. We will, of course, give him a salary when you return; but get back that money from Gabael."
4 Tobie sortit, en quête d'un bon guide capable de venir avec lui en Médie. Dehors, il trouva Raphaël,l'ange, debout face à lui, sans se douter que c'était un ange de Dieu.	4 Tobiah went to look for someone acquainted with the roads who would travel with him to Media. As soon as he went out, he found the angel Raphael standing before him, though he did not know that this was an angel of God.
5 Il lui dit: "D'où es-tu, mon ami?" L'ange répondit: "Je suis l'un des Israélites tes frères, je suis venuchercher du travail par là." Tobie lui dit: "Sais-tu la route pour aller en Médie?"	5 Tobiah said to him, "Who are you, young man?" He replied "I am an Israelite, one of your kinsmen. I have come here to work." Tobiah said, "Do you know the way to Media?"
6 L'autre répondit: "Bien sûr! J'y ai été plusieurs fois, je connais tous les chemins par coeur. Je suis alléfréquemment en Médie, j'ai été reçu chez Gabaël, l'un de nos frères qui habites à Rhagès de Médie. Il faut biendeux jours de marche normale, d'Ecbatane à Rhagès; Rhagès est situé dans la montagne, et Ecbatane est aumilieu de la plaine."	6 The other replied: "Yes, I have been there many times. I know the place well and I know all the routes. I have often traveled to Media; I used to stay with our kinsman Gabael, who lives at Rages in Media. It is a good two days' travel from Ecbatana to Rages, for Rages is situated at the mountains, Ecbatana out on the plateau."
7 Tobie lui dit: "Attends-moi, mon ami, que j'aille prévenir mon père: j'ai besoin que tu viennes avecmoi, je te paierai tes journées."	7 Tobiah said to him, "Wait for me, young man, till I go back and tell my father; for I need you to make the journey with me. I will, of course, pay you."
8 L'autre répondit: "Bien, j'attends. Seulement ne sois pas long."	8 Raphael replied, "Very well, I will wait for you; but do not be long."
9 Tobie alla prévenir son père qu'il avait trouvé quelqu'un de leurs frères israélites. Et le père dit:"Présente-le moi, que je m'informe de sa famille et de sa tribu. Il faut voir si l'on peut compter sur lui pourt'accompagner, mon enfant." Tobie sortit donc l'appeler: "Mon ami, dit-il, mon père te demande."	9 Tobiah went back to tell his father Tobit what had happened. He said to him, "I have just found a man who is one of our own Israelite kinsmen!" Tobit said, "Call the man, so that I may find out what family and tribe he comes from, and whether he is trustworthy enough to travel with you, son." Tobiah went out to summon the man, saying, "Young man, my father would like to see you."
10 L'ange entra dans la maison. Tobit salua le premier, et l'autre lui répondit par des souhaits debonheur. Tobit reprit: "Puis-je encore avoir du bonheur? Je suis un aveugle, je ne vois plus l'éclat du ciel, je suisplongé dans l'obscurité, comme les morts qui ne contemplent plus la lumière. Je suis un enterré vivant, j'entendsla voix des gens sans les voir." L'ange lui dit: "Aie confiance, Dieu ne tardera pas à te guérir. Aie confiance!"Tobit lui dit: "Mon fils Tobie désire aller en Médie. Veux-tu te joindre à lui comme guide? Frère, je te paierai."Il répondit: "Je veux bien l'accompagner, je sais tous les chemins, je suis souvent allé en Médie, j'en ai traversétoutes les plaines et les montagnes, et j'en connais toutes les pistes."	10 When Raphael entered the house, Tobit greeted him first. Raphael said, "Hearty greetings to you!" Tobit replied: "What joy is left for me any more? Here I am, a blind man who cannot see God's sunlight, but must remain in darkness, like the dead who no longer see the light! Though alive, I am among the dead. I can hear a man's voice, but I cannot see him." Raphael said, "Take courage! God has healing in store for you; so take courage!" Tobit then said: "My son Tobiah wants to go to Media. Can you go with him to show him the way? I will of course pay you, brother." Raphael answered: "Yes, I can go with him, for I know all the routes. I have often traveled to Media and crossed all its plains and mountains; so I know every road well."
11 Tobit dit: "Frère, de quelle famille et de quelle tribu es-tu? Veux-tu me l'indiquer, frère" --	11 Tobit asked, "Brother, tell me, please, what family and tribe are you from?"
12 "Que peut te faire ma tribu" -- "Je veux savoir pour de bon de qui tu es fils et quel est ton nom" --	12 Raphael said: "Why? Do you need a tribe and a family? Or are you looking for a hired man to travel with your son?" Tobit replied, "I wish to know truthfully whose son you are, brother, and what your name is."
13 "Je suis Azarias, fils d'Ananias le grand, l'un de tes frères" --	13 Raphael answered, "I am Azariah, son of Hananiah the elder, one of your own kinsmen."
14 "Sois le bienvenu, salut, frère! Ne te froisse pas si j'ai désiré connaître ta vraie famille: il se trouveque tu es mon parent, de belle et bonne lignée. Je connais Ananias et Nathân, les deux fils de Séméias le grand.Ils venaient avec moi à Jérusalem, nous y avons adoré ensemble, et ils n'ont pas quitté la bonne route. Tes frèressont des hommes de bien, tu es de bonne souche: sois le bienvenu!"	14 Tobit exclaimed: "Welcome! God save you, brother! Do not be provoked with me, brother, for wanting to learn the truth about your family. So it turns out that you are a kinsman, and from a noble and good line! I knew Hananiah and Nathaniah, the two sons of Shemaiah the elder; with me they used to make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where we would worship together. No, they did not stray from the right path; your kinsmen are good men. You are certainly of good lineage, and welcome!"
15 Il poursuivit: "Je t'engage pour une drachme par jour, avec ton entretien, comme pour mon fils.Voyage donc avec mon fils,	15 Then he added: "For each day you are away I will give you the normal wages, plus expenses for you and for my son. If you go with my son,
16 et je dépasserai le prix convenu." L'ange répondit: "Je ferai le voyage avec lui. Ne crains rien. Notredépart se passera bien, et notre retour aussi, parce que la route est sûre."	16 I will even add a bonus to your wages!" Raphael replied: "I will go with him; have no fear. In good health we shall leave you, and in good health we shall return to you, for the way is safe."
17 Tobit lui dit: "Sois béni, frère!" Puis il s'adressa à son fils: "Mon enfant, dit-il, prépare ce qu'il te fautpour le voyage, et pars avec ton frère. Que le Dieu qui est dans les cieux vous protège là-bas, et qu'il vousramène sains et saufs auprès de moi! Que son ange vous accompagne de sa protection, mon enfant!" Tobie sortitpour se mettre en route, et il embrassa son père et sa mère. Tobit lui dit: "Bon voyage!"	17 Tobit said, "God bless you, brother." Then he called his son and said to him: "My son, prepare whatever you need for the journey, and set out with your kinsman. May God in heaven protect you on the way and bring you back to me safe and sound; and may his angel accompany you for safety, my son." Before setting out on his journey, Tobiah kissed his father and mother. Tobit said to him, "Have a safe journey."
18 Sa mère pleura, et elle dit à Tobit: "Pourquoi as-tu décidé le départ de mon enfant? N'est-ce pas lui lebâton de notre main, lui qui va et vient devant nous?	18 But his mother began to weep. She said to Tobit: "Why have you decided to send my child away? Is he not the staff to which we cling, ever there with us in all that we do?
19 J'espère que l'argent ne passe pas avant tout, mais qu'il ne compte pas à côté de notre enfant.	19 I hope more money is not your chief concern! Rather let it be a ransom for our son!
20 Le mode de vie que Dieu nous avait donné nous suffisait bien."	20 What the Lord has given us to live on is certainly enough for us."
21 Il lui dit: "Ne te fais pas des idées! Notre enfant ira bien en partant, il ira encore bien en rentrant à lamaison. Le jour où il te reviendra, tes yeux verront qu'il va toujours très bien. Ne te fais pas des idées, n'aie pasd'inquiétude pour eux, ma soeur.	21 Tobit reassured her: "Have no such thought. Our son will leave in good health and come back to us in good health. Your own eyes will see the day when he returns to you safe and sound.
22 Un bon ange l'accompagnera, il fera bon voyage, et il reviendra en bien bonne santé!"	22 So, no such thought; do not worry about them, my love. For a good angel will go with him, his journey will be successful, and he will return unharmed."
