Deuxième livre des Chroniques 2

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il enrôla 70.000 hommes pour le transport, 80.000 pour extraire les pierres de la montagne et3.600 contremaîtres.	1 And Solomon allocated seventy thousand men to be porters and eighty thousand to quarry in the hillsand three thousand six hundred overseers for them.
2 Puis Salomon envoya ce message à Huram, roi de Tyr: "Agis comme tu l'as fait envers monpère David en lui envoyant des cèdres pour se bâtir une maison où il résiderait.	2 And Solomon sent this message to Huram king of Tyre, 'Do as you did for my father David when yousent him cedars for him to build himself a palace to live in.
3 Or voici que je bâtis une maison au nom de Yahvé mon Dieu pour reconnaître sa sainteté,brûler devant lui de l'encens parfumé, avoir en permanence des pains rangés, offrir des holocaustes le matin, lesoir, aux sabbats, aux néoménies et aux solennités de Yahvé notre Dieu; et cela pour toujours en Israël.	3 You see, I am building a house for the name of Yahweh my God, to acknowledge his holiness so thatperfumed incense may be burnt before him, the loaves of permanent offering be perpetual y laid out and theburnt offerings be made morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, New Moons and solemn festivals of Yahwehour God, as prescribed to Israel for ever;
4 La maison que je bâtis sera grande, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.	4 and the house which I am building must be large, for our God is greater than al gods;
5 Qui serait en mesure de lui bâtir une maison quand les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne lepeuvent contenir? Et moi, qui suis-je pour lui bâtir une maison, si ce n'est pour que les fumées montent devantlui?	5 even so, who would not find it an impossible task to build a house for him, when the heavens and theheavens of the heavens cannot contain him? And who am I to build a house for him except to burn incensebefore him?
6 Envoie-moi maintenant un homme habile à travailler l'or, l'argent, le bronze, le fer, l'écarlate,le cramoisi et la pourpre violette, et connaissant l'art de la gravure; il travaillera avec les artisans qui sont près demoi dans Juda et à Jérusalem, eux que mon père David a mis à ma disposition.	6 So now send me a man skil ed at working in gold, silver, bronze, iron, scarlet, crimson and violetmaterials, and who knows the art of engraving too; he is to work with my skil ed men in Judah and Jerusalem,whom my father David has provided.
7 Envoie-moi du Liban des troncs de cèdre, de genévrier et d'algummim, car je sais que tesserviteurs savent abattre les arbres du Liban. Mes serviteurs travailleront avec les tiens.	7 Also send me cedar, juniper and algum trunks from the Lebanon, for I know that your servants knowthe art of fel ing timber in the Lebanon. And, my servants will work with your servants
8 Ils me prépareront du bois en quantité, car la maison que je veux bâtir sera d'une grandeurétonnante.	8 in preparing a vast quantity of timber for me, since the house which I intend to build is to be of a size tomarvel at.
9 Je livre pour les bûcherons qui abattront les arbres 20.000 muids de froment, 20.000 muidsd'orge, 20.000 mesures de vin et 20.000 mesures d'huile, ceci pour l'entretien de tes serviteurs."	9 Furthermore, for the upkeep of the woodcutters whom you employ to cut the timber, I shal providetwenty thousand kor of wheat, twenty thousand kor of barley, twenty thousand bat of wine and twenty thousandbat of oil.'
10 Huram, roi de Tyr, répondit par une lettre qu'il envoya à Salomon: "C'est parce qu'il aime sonpeuple que Yahvé t'en a fait le roi."	10 In a letter sent to King Solomon, Huram king of Tyre replied, 'Because Yahweh loves his people hehas made you their king!'
11 Puis il ajouta: "Béni soit Yahvé le Dieu d'Israël! Il a fait les cieux et la terre, il a donné au roiDavid un fils sage, sensé et intelligent, qui va bâtir une maison pour Yahvé et une autre pour y régner lui-même.	11 Huram went on to say, 'Praised be Yahweh, God of Israel, who made heaven and earth and has givenKing David a wise son, endowed with discretion and discernment, to build a house for Yahweh and a palace inwhich to reign!-
12 J'envoie aussitôt un homme habile et intelligent, Huram-Abi,	12 I am now sending you a skil ed and intelligent man, Huram-Abi
13 fils d'une Danite, et de père tyrien. Il sait travailler l'or, l'argent, le bronze, le fer, la pierre, lebois, l'écarlate, la pourpre violette, le byssus, le cramoisi, graver n'importe quoi et concevoir des projets. C'est luiqu'on fera travailler avec tes artisans et ceux de Monseigneur David, ton père.	13 the son of a Danite woman by a Tyrian father. He knows the arts of working in gold, silver, bronze,iron, stone, wood, scarlet, violet, fine linen and crimson materials, and is competent to carry out any kind ofengraving and to execute any design which may be entrusted to him, in col aboration with your skilled men andthose of my lord David, your father.
14 Que soient alors envoyés à ses serviteurs le froment, l'orge, l'huile et le vin dont a parléMonseigneur.	14 'So now let my lord send his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine as promised
15 Quant à nous, nous abattrons au Liban tout le bois dont tu auras besoin, nous l'amènerons àJoppé en radeaux par mer, et c'est toi qui le feras monter à Jérusalem."	15 and we wil fel all the wood you need from Lebanon, and bring it you in rafts by sea to Jaffa; and it wilbe your responsibility to transport it to Jerusalem.'
16 Salomon fit le compte de tous les étrangers en résidence en terre d'Israël, d'après lerecensement qu'en avait fait David son père, et on en trouva 153.600.	16 Solomon then took a census of al the aliens resident in Israel similar to the census which his fatherDavid had taken; it was found that there were a hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred.
17 Il en affecta 70.000 aux transports, 80.000 aux carrières de la montagne, 3.600 à la directiondu travail de ces gens.	17 He impressed seventy thousand of them as porters, eighty thousand as quarrymen in the hil s andthree thousand six hundred as overseers to make sure the people worked.
