Deuxième livre des Chroniques 2

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Il enrôla 70.000 hommes pour le transport, 80.000 pour extraire les pierres de la montagne et3.600 contremaîtres.	1 He conscripted seventy thousand men to carry stone and eighty thousand to cut the stone in the mountains, and over these he placed three thousand six hundred overseers.
2 Puis Salomon envoya ce message à Huram, roi de Tyr: "Agis comme tu l'as fait envers monpère David en lui envoyant des cèdres pour se bâtir une maison où il résiderait.	2 Moreover, Solomon sent this message to Huram, king of Tyre: "As you dealt with my father David, sending him cedars to build a house for his dwelling, so deal with me.
3 Or voici que je bâtis une maison au nom de Yahvé mon Dieu pour reconnaître sa sainteté,brûler devant lui de l'encens parfumé, avoir en permanence des pains rangés, offrir des holocaustes le matin, lesoir, aux sabbats, aux néoménies et aux solennités de Yahvé notre Dieu; et cela pour toujours en Israël.	3 I intend to build a house for the honor of the LORD, my God, and to consecrate it to him, for the burning of fragrant incense in his presence, for the perpetual display of the showbread, for holocausts morning and evening, and for the sabbaths, new moons, and festivals of the LORD, our God: such is Israel's perpetual obligation.
4 La maison que je bâtis sera grande, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.	4 And the house I intend to build must be large, for our God is greater than all other gods.
5 Qui serait en mesure de lui bâtir une maison quand les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne lepeuvent contenir? Et moi, qui suis-je pour lui bâtir une maison, si ce n'est pour que les fumées montent devantlui?	5 Yet who is really able to build him a house, since the heavens and even the highest heavens cannot contain him? And who am I that I should build him a house, unless it be to offer incense in his presence?
6 Envoie-moi maintenant un homme habile à travailler l'or, l'argent, le bronze, le fer, l'écarlate,le cramoisi et la pourpre violette, et connaissant l'art de la gravure; il travaillera avec les artisans qui sont près demoi dans Juda et à Jérusalem, eux que mon père David a mis à ma disposition.	6 Now, send me men skilled at work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, in purple, crimson, and violet fabrics, and who know how to do engraved work, to join the craftsmen who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David appointed.
7 Envoie-moi du Liban des troncs de cèdre, de genévrier et d'algummim, car je sais que tesserviteurs savent abattre les arbres du Liban. Mes serviteurs travailleront avec les tiens.	7 Also send me boards of cedar, cypress and cabinet wood from Lebanon, for I realize that your servants know how to cut the wood of the Lebanon. My servants will labor with yours
8 Ils me prépareront du bois en quantité, car la maison que je veux bâtir sera d'une grandeurétonnante.	8 in order to prepare for me a great quantity of wood, since the house I intend to build must be lofty and wonderful.
9 Je livre pour les bûcherons qui abattront les arbres 20.000 muids de froment, 20.000 muidsd'orge, 20.000 mesures de vin et 20.000 mesures d'huile, ceci pour l'entretien de tes serviteurs."	9 I will furnish as food for your servants, the hewers who cut the wood, twenty thousand kors of wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil."
10 Huram, roi de Tyr, répondit par une lettre qu'il envoya à Salomon: "C'est parce qu'il aime sonpeuple que Yahvé t'en a fait le roi."	10 Huram, king of Tyre, wrote an answer which he sent to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves his people, he has placed you over them as king."
11 Puis il ajouta: "Béni soit Yahvé le Dieu d'Israël! Il a fait les cieux et la terre, il a donné au roiDavid un fils sage, sensé et intelligent, qui va bâtir une maison pour Yahvé et une autre pour y régner lui-même.	11 He added: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, for having given King David a wise son of intelligence and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and also a house for his royal estate.
12 J'envoie aussitôt un homme habile et intelligent, Huram-Abi,	12 I am now sending you a craftsman of great skill, Huram-abi,
13 fils d'une Danite, et de père tyrien. Il sait travailler l'or, l'argent, le bronze, le fer, la pierre, lebois, l'écarlate, la pourpre violette, le byssus, le cramoisi, graver n'importe quoi et concevoir des projets. C'est luiqu'on fera travailler avec tes artisans et ceux de Monseigneur David, ton père.	13 son of a Danite woman and of a father from Tyre; he knows how to work with gold, silver, bronze and iron, with stone and wood, with purple, violet, fine linen and crimson, and also how to do all kinds of engraved work and to devise every type of artistic work that may be given him and your craftsmen and the craftsmen of my lord David your father.
14 Que soient alors envoyés à ses serviteurs le froment, l'orge, l'huile et le vin dont a parléMonseigneur.	14 And now, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine which he has promised.
15 Quant à nous, nous abattrons au Liban tout le bois dont tu auras besoin, nous l'amènerons àJoppé en radeaux par mer, et c'est toi qui le feras monter à Jérusalem."	15 For our part, we will cut trees on Lebanon, as many as you need, and float them down to you at the port of Joppa, whence you may take them up to Jerusalem."
16 Salomon fit le compte de tous les étrangers en résidence en terre d'Israël, d'après lerecensement qu'en avait fait David son père, et on en trouva 153.600.	16 Thereupon Solomon took a census of all the alien men who were in the land of Israel (following the census David his father had taken of them), who were found to number one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.
17 Il en affecta 70.000 aux transports, 80.000 aux carrières de la montagne, 3.600 à la directiondu travail de ces gens.	17 Of these he made seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to keep the people working.
