JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Elisée avait dit à la femme dont il avait ressuscité le fils: "Lève-toi, va-t'en avec ta famille et séjourneoù tu pourras à l'étranger, car Yahvé a appelé la famine, déjà elle vient sur le pays, pour sept ans."	1 Elisha once said to the woman whose son he had restored to life: "Get ready! Leave with your family and settle wherever you can, because the LORD has decreed a seven-year famine which is coming upon the land."
2 La femme se leva et fit ce qu'avait dit l'homme de Dieu: elle partit, elle et sa famille, et séjourna septans au pays des Philistins.	2 The woman got ready and did as the man of God said, setting out with her family and settling in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
3 Au bout de sept années, cette femme revint du pays des Philistins et elle alla faire appel au roi poursa maison et pour son champ.	3 At the end of the seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines and went out to the king to claim her house and her field.
4 Or le roi s'entretenait avec Géhazi, le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu: "Raconte-moi, disait-il, toutesles grandes choses qu'Elisée a faites."	4 The king was talking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. "Tell me," he said, "all the great things that Elisha has done."
5 Il racontait justement au roi la résurrection de l'enfant mort quand la femme dont Elisée avaitressuscité le fils en appela au roi pour sa maison et pour son champ, et Géhazi dit: "Monseigneur le roi, voicicette femme, et voici son fils qu'Elisée a ressuscité."	5 Just as he was relating to the king how his master had restored a dead person to life, the very woman whose son Elisha had restored to life came to the king to claim her house and field. "My lord king," Gehazi said, "this is the woman, and this is that son of hers whom Elisha restored to life."
6 Le roi interrogea la femme et elle lui fit le récit. Alors le roi lui donna un eunuque, auquel ilcommanda: "Qu'on lui restitue tout ce qui est à elle et tous les revenus du champ depuis le jour où elle a quitté lepays jusqu'à maintenant."	6 The king questioned the woman, and she told him her story. With that the king placed an official at her disposal, saying, "Restore all her property to her, with all that the field produced from the day she left the land until now."
7 Elisée vint à Damas. Le roi d'Aram, Ben-Hadad, était malade et on lui annonça: "L'homme de Dieuest venu jusque chez nous."	7 Elisha came to Damascus at a time when Ben-hadad, king of Aram, lay sick. When he was told that the man of God had come there,
8 Alors le roi dit à Hazaël: "Prends avec toi un présent, va au-devant de l'homme de Dieu et consultepar lui Yahvé pour savoir si je guérirai de ce mal que j'ai."	8 the king said to Hazael, "Take a gift with you and go call on the man of God. Have him consult the LORD as to whether I shall recover from this sickness."
9 Hazaël alla au-devant d'Elisée et emporta en présent tout ce qu'il y avait de meilleur à Damas, lacharge de 40 chameaux. Il vint et, se tenant devant lui: "Ton fils Ben-Hadad roi d'Aram, dit-il, m'a envoyé tedemander: Guérirai-je de mon mal présent?"	9 Hazael went to visit him, carrying a present, and with forty camel loads of the best goods of Damascus. On his arrival, he stood before the prophet and said, "Your son Ben-hadad, king of Aram, has sent me to ask you whether he will recover from his sickness."
10 Elisée lui répondit: "Va lui dire: Tu peux guérir, mais Yahvé m'a fait voir que sûrement il mourra."	10 "Go and tell him," Elisha answered, "that he will surely recover. However, the LORD has showed me that he will in fact die."
11 Puis ses traits se figèrent, son regard devint fixe à l'extrême, et l'homme de Dieu pleura.	11 Then he stared him down until Hazael became ill at ease. The man of God wept,
12 Hazaël dit: "Pourquoi Monseigneur pleure-t-il?" Elisée répondit: "C'est que je sais le mal que tuferas aux Israélites: tu mettras le feu à leurs places fortes, tu tueras par l'épée l'élite de leurs guerriers, tuécraseras leurs petits enfants, tu éventreras leurs femmes enceintes."	12 and Hazael asked, "Why are you weeping, my lord?" Elisha replied, "Because I know the evil that you will inflict upon the Israelites. You will burn their fortresses, you will slay their youth with the sword, you will dash their little children to pieces, you will rip open their pregnant women."
13 Hazaël dit: "Mais qu'est ton serviteur? Comment ce chien pourrait-il accomplir cette grande chose?"Elisée répondit: "Dans une vision de Yahvé, je t'ai vu roi d'Aram."	13 Hazael exclaimed, "How can a dog like me, your servant, do anything so important?" "The LORD has showed you to me as king over Aram," replied Elisha.
14 Hazaël quitta Elisée et alla chez son maître, qui lui demanda: "Que t'a dit Elisée?" Il répondit: "Ilm'a dit que tu pourrais guérir."	14 Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. "What did Elisha tell you?" asked Ben-hadad. "He told me that you would surely recover," replied Hazael.
15 Le lendemain, il prit une couverture, qu'il trempa dans l'eau et étendit sur sa figure. Ben-Hadadmourut et Hazaël régna à sa place.	15 The next day, however, Hazael took a cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it over the king's face, so that he died. And Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 La cinquième année de Joram fils d'Achab, roi d'Israël, Joram fils de Josaphat devint roi de Juda.	16 In the fifth year of Joram, son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, became king.
17 Il avait 32 ans à son avènement et régna huit ans à Jérusalem.	17 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 Il imita la conduite des rois d'Israël, comme avait fait la maison d'Achab, car c'était de la maisond'Achab qu'il avait pris une épouse, et il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé.	18 He conducted himself like the kings of Israel of the line of Ahab, since the sister of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the LORD'S sight.
19 Cependant Yahvé ne voulut pas détruire Juda, à cause de son serviteur David, selon la promessequ'il lui avait faite de lui laisser toujours une lampe en sa présence.	19 Even so, the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah, because of his servant David. For he had promised David that he would leave him a lamp in the LORD'S presence for all time.
20 De son temps, Edom s'affranchit de la domination de Juda et se donna un roi.	20 During Jehoram's reign, Edom revolted against the sovereignty of Judah and chose a king of its own.
21 Joram passa à Caïr, et avec lui tous les chars... Il se leva de nuit et força la ligne des Edomites quil'encerclaient, et les commandants de chars avec lui; le peuple s'enfuit à ses tentes.	21 Thereupon Jehoram with all his chariots crossed over to Zair. He arose by night and broke through the Edomites when they had surrounded him and the commanders of his chariots. Then his army fled homeward.
22 Ainsi Edom s'affranchit de la domination de Juda, jusqu'à ce jour; Libna aussi se révolta. Dans cetemps-là...	22 To this day Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah. Libnah also revolted at that time.
23 Le reste de l'histoire de Joram, tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des roisde Juda?	23 The rest of the acts of Jehoram, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
24 Joram se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra avec ses pères dans la Cité de David. Son filsOchozias régna à sa place.	24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. His son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.
25 La douzième année de Joram fils d'Achab, roi d'Israël, Ochozias fils de Joram devint roi de Juda.	25 Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, became king in the twelfth year of Joram, son of Ahab, king of Israel.
26 Ochozias avait 22 ans à son avènement et il régna un an à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère étaitAthalie, fille d'Omri, roi d'Israël.	26 He was twenty-two years old when he began his reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah; she was daughter of Omri, king of Israel.
27 Il imita la conduite de la famille d'Achab et fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé, comme la famille d'Achab,car il lui était allié.	27 He conducted himself like the house of Ahab, doing evil in the LORD'S sight as they did, since he was related to them by marriage.
28 Il alla avec Joram fils d'Achab pour combattre Hazaël, roi d'Aram, à Ramot de Galaad. Mais lesAraméens blessèrent Joram.	28 He joined Joram, son of Ahab, in battle against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth-gilead, where the Arameans wounded Joram.
29 Le roi Joram revint à Yizréel pour faire soigner les blessures reçues à Ramot lorsqu'il combattaitHazaël roi d'Aram, et Ochozias fils de Joram, roi de Juda, descendit à Yizréel pour visiter Joram fils d'Achabparce qu'il était souffrant.	29 King Joram returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramah in his battle against Hazael, king of Aram. Then Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to Jezreel to visit him there in his illness.
