Deuxième livre de Samuel 15

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il arriva après cela qu'Absalom se procura un char et des chevaux, et 50 hommes couraientdevant lui.	1 After this, Absalom procured a chariot and horses, with fifty men to run ahead of him.
2 Levé de bonne heure, Absalom se tenait au bord du chemin qui mène à la porte, et chaque foisqu'un homme, ayant un procès, devait venir au tribunal du roi, Absalom l'interpellait et lui demandait: "De quelleville es-tu?" Il répondait: "Ton serviteur est de l'une des tribus d'Israël"	2 He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate; and whenever a man withsome lawsuit had to come before the king's tribunal, Absalom would cal out to him and ask, 'Which town are youfrom?' If he answered, 'Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,'
3 Alors Absalom lui disait: "Vois! Ta cause est bonne et juste, mais tu n'auras personne quit'écoute de la part du roi."	3 then Absalom would say, 'Look, your case is sound and just, but not one of the king's deputies willisten to you.'
4 Absalom continuait: "Ah! qui m'établira juge dans le pays? Tous ceux qui ont un procès et unjugement viendraient à moi et je leur rendrais justice!"	4 Absalom would say, 'Oh, who will appoint me judge in the land? Then anyone with a lawsuit or a pleacould come to me and I should see he had justice!'
5 Et lorsque quelqu'un s'approchait pour se prosterner devant lui, il tendait la main, l'attirait à lui etl'embrassait.	5 And whenever anyone came up to him to prostrate himself, he would stretch out his hand, draw him tohim and kiss him.
6 Absalom agissait de la sorte envers tous les Israélites qui en appelaient au tribunal du roi etAbsalom séduisait le coeur des gens d'Israël.	6 Absalom acted like this with every Israelite who appealed to the king's tribunal, and so Absalom wonthe Israelites' hearts.
7 Au bout de quatre ans, Absalom dit au roi: "Permets que j'aille à Hébron accomplir le voeu quej'ai fait à Yahvé.	7 When four years had gone by, Absalom said to the king, 'Al ow me to go to Hebron and fulfil the vowwhich I have made to Yahweh;
8 Car, lorsque j'étais à Geshur en Aram, ton serviteur a fait ce voeu: Si Yahvé me ramène àJérusalem, je rendrai un culte à Yahvé à Hébron."	8 for, when I was in Geshur, in Aram, your servant made this vow, "If Yahweh brings me back toJerusalem, I shal pay my devotions to Yahweh in Hebron." '
9 Le roi lui dit: "Va en paix." Il se mit donc en route et alla à Hébron.	9 The king said to him, 'Go in peace.' So he set off and went to Hebron.
10 Absalom dépêcha des émissaires à toutes les tribus d'Israël pour dire: "Quand vous entendrez leson du cor, vous direz: Absalom est devenu roi à Hébron."	10 Absalom sent couriers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, 'When you hear the trumpet sound, you are to say, "Absalom is king at Hebron!" '
11 Avec Absalom étaient partis 200 hommes de Jérusalem; c'étaient des invités qui étaient venusen toute innocence, n'étant au courant de rien.	11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem; they had been invited and had gone in alinnocence, unaware of what was going on.
12 Absalom envoya chercher, de sa ville de Gilo, Ahitophel le Gilonite, conseiller de David, etl'eut avec lui en offrant les sacrifices. La conjuration était puissante et la foule des partisans d'Absalom allait enaugmentant.	12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from Giloh his town, and had him withhim while offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy grew in strength, since Absalom's supporters grew in number.
13 Quelqu'un vint informer David: "Le coeur des gens d'Israël, dit-il, est passé à Absalom."	13 A messenger came and told David, 'The men of Israel have shifted their allegiance to Absalom.'
14 Alors David dit à tous ses officiers qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: "En route, et fuyons!Autrement nous n'échapperons pas à Absalom. Hâtez-vous de partir, de crainte qu'il ne se presse et ne nousattaque, qu'il ne nous inflige le malheur et ne passe la ville au fil de l'épée."	14 David said to al his retinue then with him in Jerusalem, 'Up, let us flee, or we shal not escape fromAbsalom! Leave as quickly as you can, in case he mounts a sudden attack, overcomes us and puts the city tothe sword.'
15 Les officiers du roi lui répondirent: "Quelque choix que fasse Monseigneur le roi, nous sommesà ton service."	15 The king's retinue replied, 'Whatever my lord the king decides, we are at your service.'
16 Le roi sortit à pied avec toute sa famille; cependant le roi laissa dix concubines pour garder lepalais.	16 The king set out on foot with his whole household, leaving ten concubines to look after the palace.
17 Le roi sortit à pied avec tout le peuple et ils s'arrêtèrent à la dernière maison.	17 The king set out on foot with everyone fol owing, and they halted at the last house.
18 Tous ses officiers se tenaient à ses côtés. Tous les Kerétiens, tous les Pelétiens, Ittaï et tous lesGittites qui étaient venus de Gat à sa suite, 600 hommes, défilaient devant le roi.	18 Al his officers stood at his side. All the Cherethites and all the Pelethites, with Ittai and all the sixhundred Gittites who had come in his retinue from Gath, marched past the king.
19 Celui-ci dit à Ittaï le Gittite: "Pourquoi viens-tu aussi avec nous? Retourne et demeure avec leroi, car tu es un étranger, tu es même exilé de ton pays.	19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, 'You, why are you coming with us? Go back and stay with the king,for you are a foreigner, indeed an exile from your homeland.
20 Tu es arrivé d'hier, et aujourd'hui je te ferais errer avec nous, quand je m'en vais à l'aventure!Retourne et remmène tes frères avec toi, et que Yahvé te témoigne miséricorde et bonté."	20 You arrived only yesterday; should I take you wandering with us today, when I do not know myselfwhere I am going? Go back, take your fellow countrymen with you, and may Yahweh show you mercy andfaithful love!'
21 Mais Ittaï répondit au roi: "Par la vie de Yahvé et par la vie de Monseigneur le roi, partout oùsera Monseigneur le roi, pour la mort et pour la vie, là aussi sera ton serviteur."	21 Ittai replied to the king, 'As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the kingmay be, for death or life, your servant wil be there too.'
22 David dit alors à Ittaï: "Va et passe." Et Ittaï de Gat passa avec tous ses hommes et toute sasmala.	22 David then said to Ittai, 'Go ahead, march past!' And Ittai of Gath marched past with al his men andwith all his children too.
23 Tout le monde pleurait à grands sanglots. Le roi se tenait dans le torrent du Cédron et tout lepeuple défilait devant lui en direction du désert.	23 The entire population was weeping aloud as the king stood in the bed of the Kidron and everyonemarched past him, making for the desert.
24 On vit aussi Sadoq et tous les lévites portant l'arche de Dieu. On déposa l'arche de Dieu auprèsd'Ebyatar jusqu'à ce que tout le peuple eût fini de défiler hors de la ville.	24 Zadok was there too, and al the Levites with him, carrying the ark of God. They set the ark of Goddown beside Abiathar until everyone had finished marching out of the town.
25 Le roi dit à Sadoq: "Rapporte en ville l'arche de Dieu. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de Yahvé, ilme ramènera et me permettra de le revoir ainsi que sa demeure,	25 The king then said to Zadok, 'Take the ark of God back into the city. Should I win Yahweh's favour,he wil bring me back and al ow me to see it and its tent once more.
26 et s'il dit: Tu me déplais, me voici: qu'il me fasse comme bon lui semble."	26 But should he say, "You displease me," here I am: let him treat me as he sees fit.'
27 Le roi dit au prêtre Sadoq: "Voyez, toi et Ebyatar, retournez en paix à la ville, et vos deux filsavec vous, Ahimaaç ton fils et Yehonatân le fils d'Ebyatar.	27 The king said to Zadok the priest, 'Look, you and Abiathar go back quietly into the city, with your twosons, your own son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar.
28 Voyez, moi je m'attarderai dans les passes du désert jusqu'à ce que vienne un mot de vous quim'apporte des nouvelles."	28 You see, I shall wait in the passes of the desert plain until word comes from you bringing me news.'
29 Sadoq et Ebyatar ramenèrent donc l'arche de Dieu à Jérusalem et ils y demeurèrent.	29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.
30 David gravissait en pleurant la Montée des Oliviers, la tête voilée et les pieds nus, et tout lepeuple qui l'accompagnait avait la tête voilée et montait en pleurant.	30 David then made his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, his head covered and his feetbare. And al the people with him had their heads covered and made their way up, weeping as they went.
31 On avertit alors David qu'Ahitophel était parmi les conjurés avec Absalom, et David dit: "Rendsfous, Yahvé, les conseils d'Ahitophel!"	31 David was then informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. David said, 'Ibeg you, Yahweh, turn Ahithophel's advice to fol y.'
32 Comme David arrivait au sommet, là où l'on adore Dieu, il vit venir à sa rencontre Hushaïl'Arkite, le familier de David, avec la tunique déchirée et de la terre sur la tête.	32 As David reached the summit, where God is worshipped, he saw Hushai the Archite, his friend,coming to meet him with his tunic torn and with earth on his head.
33 David lui dit: "Si tu pars avec moi, tu me seras à charge.	33 David said, 'If you go along with me, you wil be a burden to me.
34 Mais si tu retournes en ville et si tu dis à Absalom: Je serai ton serviteur, Monseigneur le roi;auparavant je servais ton père, maintenant je te servirai, alors tu déjoueras à mon profit les conseils d'Ahitophel.	34 But if you go back to the city and say to Absalom, "I am at your service, my lord king; once I was inyour father's service, but now I shal serve you," you wil be able to thwart Ahithophel's advice for me.
35 Sadoq et Ebyatar, les prêtres, ne seront-ils pas avec toi? Tout ce que tu entendras du palais, tu lerapporteras aux prêtres Sadoq et Ebyatar.	35 Surely the priests Zadok and Abiathar wil be with you? Anything you hear from the palace you mustreport to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.
36 Il y a avec eux leurs deux fils, Ahimaaç pour Sadoq, et Yehonatân pour Ebyatar: vous mecommuniquerez par leur intermédiaire tout ce que vous aurez appris."	36 You see, their two sons are there with them, Zadok's son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan;through these, you will send me word of everything you hear.'
37 Hushaï, le familier de David, rentra en ville au moment où Absalom arrivait à Jérusalem.	37 Hushai, David's friend, entered the city just as Absalom was reaching Jerusalem.
