Sirach 51

1 Simon the high priest, the son of Onias, who in his life propped up the house, and in his days fortified the temple.	1 Orazione di Gesù Figliuolo di Sirach. Te loderò io, o Signore, e Re, e a te darò gloria, o Dio mio salvatore.
2 By him also the height of the temple was founded, the double building and the high walls of the temple.	2 Grazie renderò al nome tuo, perché tu se' stato mio ajuto, e mio protettore.
3 In his days the wells of water flowed out, and they were filled as the sea above measure.	3 Ed hai liberato il corpo mio dalla perdizione, e dal laccio della lingua perversa, e dalle labbra di quelli, che ordivano menzogne, e in faccia a' miei avversari mi hai dato soccorso.
4 He took care of his nation, and delivered it from destruction.	4 E secondo la molta misericordia, onde tu prendi il nome, mi hai liberato da lioni, che ruggivano pronti a divorare,
5 He prevailed to enlarge the city, and obtained glory in his conversation with the people: and enlarged the entrance of the house and the court.	5 Dalle mani di que', che cercavano l'anima mia, e dal cadere nelle tribolazioni, ond'io fui circondato,
6 He shone in his days as the morning star in the midst of a cloud, and as the moon at the full.	6 Dalla violenza delle fiamme, tralle quali era rinchiuso, e in mezzo al fuoco non ebbi calore;
7 And as the sun when it shineth, so did he shine in the temple of God.	7 Dal seno profondo dell'inferno, e dalla impura lingua, dalle testimonianze bugiarde, da un re inique, e dalla ingiusta lingua:
8 And as the rainbow giving light in the bright clouds, and as the flower of roses in the days of the spring, and as the lilies that are on the brink of the water, and as the sweet smelling frankincense in the time of summer.	8 A Dio darà laude l'anima mia fino alla morte;
9 As a bright Are, and frankincense burning in the fire.	9 Perocché la mia vita fu presso a cadere laggiù nell'inferno.
10 As a massy vessel of gold, adorned with every precious stone.	10 Mi avean serrato da tutte parti, e non era chi mi porgesse soccorso; mirava se alcun uomo mi desse ajuto, ma ajuto non v'era.
11 As an olive tree budding forth, and a cypress tree rearing itself on high, when he put on the robe of glory, and was clothed with the perfection of power.	11 Mi ricordai di tua misericordia, o Signore, e delle cose fatte da te ab antico:
12 When he went up to the holy altar, he honoured the vesture of holiness.	12 E come tu liberi coloro, cbe te aspettano, e li salvi dalle mani delle nazioni.
13 And when he took the portions out of the hands of the priests, he himself stood by the altar. And about him was the ring of his brethren: and as the cedar planted in mount Libanus,	13 Tu innalzasti la casa mia, sopra la terra, e te io supplicai per la morte, che tutto scioglie.
14 And as branches of palm trees, they stood round about him, and all the sons of Aaron in their glory.	14 Io invocai il Signore padre del Signor mio, affinchè non mi abbandoni, senza soccorso nel giorno di mia afflizione, e mentre dominano i superbi.
15 And the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, before all the congregation of Israel: and finishing his service, on the altar, to honour the offering of the most high Ring,	15 Darò laude al nome tuo, e continuamente il celebrerò con rendimenti di grazie, perché fu esaudita la mia orazione.
16 He stretched forth his hand to make a libation, and offered of the blood of the grape.	16 E mi liberasti dalla perdizione, e mi salvasti dal tempo cattivo.
17 He poured out at the foot of the altar a divine odour to the most high Prince.	17 Per questo io ti renderò grazie, e a te darò laude, e benedirò il nome del Signore.
18 Then the sons of Aaron shouted, they sounded with beaten trumpets, and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before God.	18 Quand'io era tuttor giovanotto prima di inciampare in errori feci professione di cercar la sapienza colla mia orazione.
19 Then all the people together made haste, and fell down to the earth upon their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to pray to the Almighty God the most High.	19 Io la domandava dinanzi al tempio, come sino all'estremo punto la cercherò; ed ella gettò il suo fiore come l'uva primaticcia.
20 And the singers lifted up their voices. and in the great house the sound of sweet melody was increased.	20 Il mio cuore trovò in essa il suo gaudio; il mio piede battè la strada diritta; andai in cerca di lei fin dalla giovinezza.
21 And the people in prayer besought the Lord the most High, until the worship of the Lord was perfected, and they had finished their office.	21 Chinai un poco le mie orecchie, e la ascoltai.
22 Then coming down, he lifted up his hands over all the congregation of the children of Israel, to give glory to God with his lips, and to glory in his name:	22 E molta sapienza accolsi nella mia mente, e molto in essa mi avanzai.
23 And he repeated his prayer, willing to shew the power of God.	23 A lui, che mi da la sapienza, io darò gloria.
24 And now pray ye to the God of all, who hath done great things in all the earth, who hath increased our days from our mother's womb, and hath done with us according to his mercy.	24 Perocché io mi son risoluto di metterla in pratica; ebbi zelo del bene, e non avronne rossore.
25 May he grant us joyfulness of heart, and that there be peace in our days in Israel for ever:	25 Per lei ha combattuto l'anima mia, e mi tengo costante nel seguitarla.
26 That Israel may believe that the mercy of God is with us, to deliver us in his days.	26 Stesi in alto le mie mani, e deplorai la stoltezza di quest'anima.
27 There are two nations which my soul abhorreth: and the third is no nation, which I hate:	27 Verso di lei dirizzai l'anima mia, e conosciuto (me) la trovai.
28 They that sit on mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people that dwell in Sichem.	28 Con lei possedei da principio il mio cuore; per questo non sarò abbandonato.
29 Jesus the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, hath written in this book the doctrine of wisdom and instruction, who renewed wisdom from his heart.	29 Nel cercar lei le mie viscere soffersero de' turbamenti, per questo possederò un gran bene.
30 Blessed is he that is conversant in these good things: and he that layeth them up in his heart, shall be wise always.	30 Il Signore per min mercede mi ha dato la lingua, ed io con essa a luì darò laude.
31 For if he do them, he shall be strong to do all things: because the light of God guideth his steps.	31 Appressatevi a me, o ignoranti, e adunatevi nella casa di istruzione:
	32 Perché tuttora tardate? E che rispondete a questo? le anime vostre son grandemente assetate.
	33 Ho aperta la mia bocca, ed ho parlato: comperate senza spesa,
	34 E piegate al giogo il vostro collo, e l'anima vostra accolga la disciplina; perocché è facile il ritrovarla.
	35 Mirate cogli occhi vostri com'io faticai per un poco, ed ho trovato molta requie.
	36 Abbracciate la disciplina come un gran tesoro d'argento, e possedete con lei molto oro.
	37 Si consoli l'anima vostra nella misericordia di Dio, e lodando lui non sarete confusi.
	38 Fate l'opera vostra per tempo, ed egli darà a voi la mercede vostra a suo tempo.
