Sirach 29

DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 He that sheweth mercy, lendeth to his neighbour: and he that is stronger in hand, keepeth the commandments.	1 Quello che fae misericordia, prèsta al prossimo suo; e chi è largo e splendido, osserva li comandamenti.
2 Lend to thy neighbour in the time of his need, and pay thou thy neighbour again in due time.	2 Prèsta al prossimo tuo nel tempo della sua necessitade, e ancora rendi al prossimo nel tempo suo.
3 Reap thy word, and deal faithfully with him: and thou shalt always find that which is necessary for thee.	3 Conferma la parola tua, e fa fedelmente con lui; e in ogni tempo troverai quello che t'è necessario.
4 Many have looked upon a thing lent as a thing found, and have given trouble to them that helped them.	4 Molti stimarono lo prèsto sì come uno trovamento, e prestarono gravezza a coloro che li aiutarono.
5 Till they receive, they kiss the hands of the lender, and in promises they humble their voice:	5 Infino ch' elli ricevono, basciano le mani di colui che dà, e umiliano la loro voce nella promissione.
6 But when they should repay, they will ask time, and will return tedious and murmuring words, and will complain of the time:	6 E nel tempo dello rimeritare domanderanno. Enel tempo, e parleranno parole increscevoli, e causerassi il tempo del mormoramento.
7 And if he be able to pay, he will stand off, he will scarce pay one half, and will count it as if he had found it:	7 E s'elli potrae rendere, si li sarà contrario, e appena del soldo renderà il mezzo; e computarae quello, come se tu l'avessi trovato.
8 But if not, he will defraud him of his money, and he shall get him for an enemy without cause:	8 Ma se lui non potrà (ritenere che non la restituisca), cercherà di defraudarti, e diventerà tuo nimico per sua propria voglia.
9 And he will pay him with reproaches and curses, and instead of honour and good turn will repay him injuries.	9 Villania e mali detti ti renderae, e per lo onore e per lo beneficio ti renderà villanie.
10 Many have refused to lend, not out of wickedness, but they were afraid to be defrauded without cause.	10 Molti non per cagione di malvagitade non prestarono, ma temerono d' essere defraudati spontaneamente.
11 But yet towards the poor be thou more hearty, and delay not to shew him mercy.	11 E per tanto sii di forte animo sopra lo umile, e per la limosina non lo ti fare venire dietro.
12 Help the poor because of the commandment: and send him not away empty handed because of his poverty.	12 Per lo comandamento ricevi il povero; e per inopia nollo lasciare ire da te vuoto.
13 Lose thy money for thy brother and thy friend: and hide it not under a stone to be lost.	13 Perdi la pecunia per lo tuo fratello e per lo amico, e non la nascondere sotto la pietra in perdizione.
14 Place thy treasure in the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold.	14 Poni il tesoro tuo nelli comandamenti di Dio, e gioverae più che tutto l'oro.
15 Shut up alms in the heart of the poor, and it shall obtain help for thee against all evil.	15 Rinchiudi la limosina nel seno del povero, e questa medesima adorerae per te, e liberaratti da ogni male.
16 Better than the shield of the mighty, and better than the spear:	16 (La limosina dello uomo è sì come uno sacchetto con lui, e conserverae la grazia dell' uomo, sì come la pupilla dell' occhio).
17 It shall fight for thee against thy enemy.	17 (E poi si rilevarae e rimeritarae a loro la retribuzione, a ciascuno nel capo loro). Sopra il scudo del potente, e più che lancia, combatterà contro al nimico tuo.
18 A good man is surety for his neighbour: and he that hath lost shame, will leave him to himself.	18 Il buono uomo farae fede al prossimo suo;
19 Forget not the kindness of thy surety: for he hath given his life for thee.	19 e chi la perderae, si farae confusione.
20 The sinner and the unclean fleeth from his surety.	20 Non dimenticare la grazia di quello che è stato per te securità; per che ello diede per te l'anima sua.
21 A sinner attributeth to himself the goods of his surety: and he that is of an unthankful mind will leave him that delivered him.	21 Il peccatore schifa la repromissione.
22 A man is surety for his neighbour: and when he hath lost all shame, he shall forsake him.	22 Il peccatore intitola a sè li beni del promettitore; e colui che è isconoscente per senno ch' egli abbandonoe colui che liberoe lui.
23 Evil suretyship hath undone many of good estate, and hath tossed them as a wave of the sea.	23 L'uomo ripromette del prossimo suo; e quando egli averae perduto la reverenza, sarà abbandonato da lui.
24 It hath made powerful men to go from place to place round about, and they have wandered in strange countries.	24 La malvagissima promissione molti dirizzanti perse, e commosse coloro sì come tempesta di mare.
25 A sinner that transgresseth the commandment of the Lord, shall fall into an evil suretyship: and he that undertaketh many things, shall fall into judgment.	25 Avvolgendosi fece passare altrove uomini potenti, e andarono vagabondi in genti straniere.
26 Recover thy neighbour according to thy power, and take heed to thyself that thou fall not.	26 Lo peccatore, trapassante li comandamenti del Signore, caderà nella malvagia repromissione; e colui che sforzerae molte cose, cadrae nel giudicio.
27 The chief thing for man's life is water and bread, and clothing, and a house to cover shame.	27 Ricupera il prossimo secondo la possanza tua, e attendi a te sì che tu non caggi.
28 Better is the poor man's fare under a roof of boards, than sumptuous cheer abroad in another man's house.	28 Il principio della vita dell' uomo vuole acqua e pane, vestimento e casa che ricopra la vergogna.
29 Be contented with little instead of much, and thou shalt not hear the reproach of going abroad.	29 Meglio è la vita del povero sotto il coperto d'assi, che molti conviti in peregrinazione sanza casa.
30 It is a miserable life to go as a guest from house to house: for where a man is a stranger, he shall not deal confidently, nor open his mouth.	30 Statti contento di quel poco che tu hai, e non udirailo impropero della peregrinazione.
31 He shall entertain and feed, and give drink to the unthankful, and moreover he shall hear bitter words.	31 La vita mala è andar peregrino di casa in casa; e dove albergherae, non sarà con fiducia, e non aprirà la bocca sua.
32 Go, stranger, and furnish the table, and give others to eat what thou hast in thy hand.	32 Albergherae e pascerassi, e sosterrà li ingrati, e udirà molte cose dispiacevoli.
33 Give place to the honourable presence of my friends: for I want my house, my brother being to be lodged with me.	33 (E saralli detto): va, ospite, e prepara la mensa (tua); e di quelle cose che tu hai, pasci gli altri.
34 These things are grievous to a man of understanding: the upbraiding of houseroom, and the reproaching of the lender.	34 Esci fuori dalla faccia delli miei amici; dal bisogno della mia casa egli è venuto il mio fratello.
	35 Queste cose sono gravi a uomo sensato; la correzion della casa, e lo improperio di colui che prèsta.
