1 He that seeketh to revenge himself, shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.	1 - Chi vuol vendicarsi proverà la vendetta del Signore: dei suoi peccati e' terrà strettissimo conto.
2 Forgive thy neighbour if he hath hurl thee: and then shall thy sins be forgiven to thee when thou prayest.	2 Condona al prossimo tuo il torto che t'ha fatto, e allora, quando tu pregherai, ti saran rimessi i peccati.
3 Man to man reserveth anger, and doth he seek remedy of God?	3 Un uomo conserva rancore contro un uomo, e invoca da Dio salute?
4 He hath no mercy on a man like himself, and doth he entreat for his own sins?	4 Verso un uomo, suo slmile, non ha pietà, e implora per i propri peccati?
5 He that is but flesh, nourisheth anger, and doth he ask forgiveness of God? who shall obtain pardon for his sins?	5 Egli, che pure è carne, conserva il rancore, e chiede a Dio propiziazione? Chi espierà i peccati di lui?
6 Remember thy last things, and let enmity cease:	6 Pensa alla fine, e cessa dall'odiare,
7 For corruption and death hang over in his commandments.	7 perchè la corruzione e la morte [ti] sovrastano ne' suoi comandamenti.
8 Remember the fear of God, and be not angry with thy neighbour.	8 Pensa al timor di Dio e non corrucciarti col prossimo;
9 Remember the covenant of the most High, and overlook the ignorance of thy neighbour.	9 pensa all'alleanza dell'Altissimo e passa sopra all'offesa del prossimo.
10 Refrain from strife, and thou shalt diminish thy sine:	10 Tienti lontano dal questionare e diminuirai i peccati,
11 For a passionate man kindleth strife, and a sinful man will trouble his friends, and bring in debate in the midst of them that are at peace.	11 perchè l'uomo iracondo accende le questioni, e il peccatore scompiglia gli amici, e tra quelli che vivono in pace insinua l'inimicizia.
12 For as the wood of the forest is, so the fire burneth: and as a man's strength is, so shall his anger be, and according to his riches he shall increase his anger.	12 In proporzione delle legna divampa il fuoco, [e a seconda della violenza del contendere la questione s'infiamma]. In proporzione della potenza d'un uomo sarà l'ira sua, e a seconda delle sue ricchezze e' fa salire il suo sdegno.
13 A hasty contention kindleth a fire: and a hasty quarrel sheddeth blood: and a tongue that beareth witness bringeth death.	13 Una precipitata contesa accende il fuoco, e una questione precipitosa fa spargere il sangue: e la lingua che attesta [il falso] arreca morte.
14 If thou blow the spark, it shall burn as a fire: and if thou spit upon it, it shall be quenched: both come out of the mouth.	14 Se soffi sulla scintilla, divamperà a mo'di fuoco; se ci sputi su, si spengerà: e l'una e l'altra cosa vien dalla [tua] bocca.
15 The whisperer and the double tongued is accursed: for he hath troubled many that were at peace.	15 Il mormoratore e l'uomo bilingue [sia da te] maledetto: molti invero ha mandati in malora che vivevano in pace.
16 The tongue of a third person hath disquieted many, and scattered them from nation to nation.	16 La lingua d'un terzo sconvolse molti, e li mandò raminghi da un popolo all'altro.
17 It hath destroyed the strong cities of the rich, and hath overthrown the houses of great men.	17 Distrusse città fortificate, e case di grandi atterrò.
18 It hath cut in pieces the forces of people, and undone strong nations.	18 Abbattè eserciti di popoli, e potenti nazioni dissipò.
19 The tongue of a third person hath cast out valiant women, and deprived them of their labours.	19 La lingua d'un terzo cacciò [di casa] donne virili, e le privò del frutto delle loro fatiche.
20 He that hearkeneth to it, shall never have rest, neither shall he have a friend in whom he may repose.	20 Chi a quella dà retta, non avrà requie, e non avrà un amico su cui riposare.
21 The stroke of a whip maketh a blue mark: but the stroke of the tongue will break the bones.	21 Un colpo di sferza fa un livido; ma un colpo di lingua stritola le ossa.
22 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not so many as have perished by their own tongue.	22 Molti caddero per il filo della spada, ma non tanti, quanti perirono per via della lingua.
23 Blessed is he that is defended from a wicked tongue, that hath not passed into the wrath thereof, and that hath not drawn the yoke thereof, and hath not been bound in its bands.	23 Beato chi è al riparo da una lingua maligna, chi non cade sotto il suo furore, chi non trascina il suo giogo, e ne' suoi ceppi non è incatenato.
24 For its yoke is a yoke of iron: and its bands are bands of brass.	24 Perchè il suo giogo è giogo di ferro, e le sue catene son catene di bronzo.
25 The death thereof is a most evil death: and hell is preferable to it.	25 La morte ch'essa dà, è morte tristissima, meglio di essa è [scendere negli] Inferi.
26 Its continuance shall not be for a long time, but it shall possess the ways of the unjust: and the just shall not be burnt with its flame.	26 La sua persistenza non durerà a lungo, ma dominerà le vie degli ingiusti. E con la sua fiamma non abbrucerà i giusti.
27 They that forsake God shall fall into it, and it shall burn in them, and shall not be quenched, and it shall be sent upon them as a lion, and as a leopard it shall tear them.	27 Quei che abbandonano il Signore cadranno in [potere di] essa, e divamperà in loro e non si spengerà. E si spingerà addosso a loro come un leone, e come una pantera gli sbranerà.
28 Hedge in thy ears with thorns, hear not a wicked tongue, and make doors and bars to thy mouth.	28 Fa' una siepe di spine alle tue orecchie e non ascoltare una lingua maligna, e alla tua bocca metti porte e chiavistelli.
29 Melt down thy gold and silver, and make a balance for thy words, and a just bridle for thy mouth:	29 Il tuo oro e il tuo argento raduna in [forziere sicuro], e per le tue parole fatti una bilancia [e de' pesi] e opportuni freni [e chiavistelli] per la tua bocca.
30 And take heed lest thou slip with thy tongue, and fall in the sight of thy enemies who lie in wait for thee, and thy fall be incurable unto death.	30 E bada di non sdrucciolar per causa della lingua, e cadere alla presenza de' tuoi nemici che stanno in agguato, sicché la tua caduta sia insanabile e mortale!
