Sirach 28

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 He that seeketh to revenge himself, shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.	1 Celui qui se venge éprouvera la vengeance du Seigneur qui tient un compte rigoureux despéchés.
2 Forgive thy neighbour if he hath hurl thee: and then shall thy sins be forgiven to thee when thou prayest.	2 Pardonne à ton prochain ses torts, alors, à ta prière, tes péchés te seront remis.
3 Man to man reserveth anger, and doth he seek remedy of God?	3 Si un homme nourrit de la colère contre un autre, comment peut-il demander à Dieu laguérison?
4 He hath no mercy on a man like himself, and doth he entreat for his own sins?	4 Pour un homme, son semblable, il est sans compassion, et il prierait pour ses propres fautes!
5 He that is but flesh, nourisheth anger, and doth he ask forgiveness of God? who shall obtain pardon for his sins?	5 Lui qui n'est que chair garde rancune, qui lui pardonnera ses péchés?
6 Remember thy last things, and let enmity cease:	6 Souviens-toi de la fin et cesse de haïr, de la corruption et de la mort, et sois fidèle auxcommandements.
7 For corruption and death hang over in his commandments.	7 Souviens-toi des commandements et ne garde pas rancune au prochain, de l'alliance duTrès-Haut, et passe par-dessus l'offense.
8 Remember the fear of God, and be not angry with thy neighbour.	8 Reste à l'écart des querelles et tu éviteras le péché; l'homme passionné attise les querelles;
9 Remember the covenant of the most High, and overlook the ignorance of thy neighbour.	9 le pécheur sème le trouble parmi les amis, parmi les gens qui vivent en paix il jette labrouille.
10 Refrain from strife, and thou shalt diminish thy sine:	10 Le feu brûle suivant son combustible, la querelle se propage d'après sa violence; la fureurd'un homme dépend de sa force, sa colère monte selon sa richesse.
11 For a passionate man kindleth strife, and a sinful man will trouble his friends, and bring in debate in the midst of them that are at peace.	11 Une querelle soudaine allume le feu, une dispute irréfléchie fait verser le sang.
12 For as the wood of the forest is, so the fire burneth: and as a man's strength is, so shall his anger be, and according to his riches he shall increase his anger.	12 Souffle sur une flammèche, elle s'enflamme, crache dessus, elle s'éteint: telle est lapuissance de ta bouche.
13 A hasty contention kindleth a fire: and a hasty quarrel sheddeth blood: and a tongue that beareth witness bringeth death.	13 Fi du bavard et du fourbe: ils ont perdu beaucoup de gens qui vivaient en paix.
14 If thou blow the spark, it shall burn as a fire: and if thou spit upon it, it shall be quenched: both come out of the mouth.	14 La troisième langue a ébranlé bien des gens, les a dispersés d'une nation à l'autre; elle adétruit de puissantes cités et renversé des maisons de grands.
15 The whisperer and the double tongued is accursed: for he hath troubled many that were at peace.	15 La troisième langue a fait répudier des femmes parfaites, les dépouillant du fruit de leurstravaux.
16 The tongue of a third person hath disquieted many, and scattered them from nation to nation.	16 Qui lui prête l'oreille ne trouve plus le repos, ne peut plus demeurer dans la paix.
17 It hath destroyed the strong cities of the rich, and hath overthrown the houses of great men.	17 Un coup de fouet laisse une marque, mais un coup de langue brise les os.
18 It hath cut in pieces the forces of people, and undone strong nations.	18 Bien des gens sont tombés par l'épée, mais beaucoup plus ont péri par la langue.
19 The tongue of a third person hath cast out valiant women, and deprived them of their labours.	19 Heureux qui est à l'abri de ses atteintes, qui n'est pas exposé à sa fureur, qui n'a pas portéson joug, qui n'a pas été lié de ses chaînes.
20 He that hearkeneth to it, shall never have rest, neither shall he have a friend in whom he may repose.	20 Car son joug est un joug de fer et ses chaînes des chaînes d'airain.
21 The stroke of a whip maketh a blue mark: but the stroke of the tongue will break the bones.	21 Une mort terrible, la mort qu'elle inflige, et le shéol lui est préférable.
22 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not so many as have perished by their own tongue.	22 Elle n'a pas d'emprise sur les hommes pieux, ils ne sont pas brûlés à sa flamme.
23 Blessed is he that is defended from a wicked tongue, that hath not passed into the wrath thereof, and that hath not drawn the yoke thereof, and hath not been bound in its bands.	23 Ceux qui abandonnent le Seigneur sont ses victimes, en eux elle brûlera sans s'éteindre,elle sera lancée contre eux comme un lion, elle les déchirera comme une panthère.
24 For its yoke is a yoke of iron: and its bands are bands of brass.	24 Vois, entoure d'épines ta propriété, serre ton argent et ton or.
25 The death thereof is a most evil death: and hell is preferable to it.	25 Dans ton langage use de balances et de poids, à ta bouche mets porte et verrou.
26 Its continuance shall not be for a long time, but it shall possess the ways of the unjust: and the just shall not be burnt with its flame.	26 Garde-toi de faire par elle des faux pas, tu tomberais au pouvoir de celui qui te guette.
27 They that forsake God shall fall into it, and it shall burn in them, and shall not be quenched, and it shall be sent upon them as a lion, and as a leopard it shall tear them.
28 Hedge in thy ears with thorns, hear not a wicked tongue, and make doors and bars to thy mouth.
29 Melt down thy gold and silver, and make a balance for thy words, and a just bridle for thy mouth:
30 And take heed lest thou slip with thy tongue, and fall in the sight of thy enemies who lie in wait for thee, and thy fall be incurable unto death.
