1 Eliu also proceeded, and said :	1 Depois Eliú prosseguiu nestes termos:
2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee : for I have yet somewhat to speak in God's behalf.	2 “Espera um pouco e te instruirei. Tenho ainda palavras em defesa de Deus.
3 I will repeat my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker just.	3 Vou buscar longe a minha ciência, para justificar aquele que me criou.
4 For indeed my words are without a lie, and perfect knowledge shall be proved to thee.	4 Pois minhas palavras não são certamente mentirosas e estás tratando com um homem de ciência sólida.
5 God doth not cast away the mighty, whereas he himself also is mighty.	5 Deus é poderoso, mas não é arrogante, é poderoso por sua ciência.
6 But he saveth not the wicked, and he giveth judgment to the poor.	6 Não deixa o ímpio viver, mas faz justiça aos oprimidos.
7 He will not take away his eyes from the just, and he placeth kings on the throne for ever, and they are exalted.	7 Não tira seus olhos do justo e os faz assentar no trono com os reis, numa glória eterna.
8 And if they shall be in chains, and be bound with the cords of poverty :	8 Se forem presos em grilhões e atados com os laços da pobreza,
9 He shall shew them their works, and their wicked deeds, because they have been violent.	9 ele lhes fará conhecer as suas obras e as faltas que cometeram por orgulho.
10 He also shall open their ear, to correct them : and shall speak, that they may return from iniquity.	10 Abre-lhes os ouvidos para corrigi-los e diz-lhes que renunciem à iniquidade.
11 If they shall hear and observe, they shall accomplish their days in good, and their years in glory.	11 Se escutarem e obedecerem, terminarão seus dias na felicidade e seus anos em delícias.
12 But if they hear not, they shall pass by the sword, and shall be consumed in folly.	12 Mas se não o escutarem, morrerão de um golpe e expirarão por falta de sabedoria.
13 Dissemblers and crafty men prove the wrath of God, neither shall they cry when they are bound.	13 Os ímpios de coração são entregues à cólera e não clamam a Deus quando ele os aprisiona.
14 Their soul shall die in a storm, and their life among the effeminate.	14 Por isso morrem em plena mocidade e sua vida passa como a dos efeminados.
15 He shall deliver the poor out of his distress, and shall open his ear in affliction.	15 Mas Deus salvará o pobre pela sua miséria e o instrui pelo sofrimento.
16 Therefore he shall set thee at large out of the narrow mouth, and which hath no foundation under it : and the rest of thy table shall be full of fatness.	16 A ti também ele retirará das fauces a angústia, numa larga liberdade e no repouso de uma mesa bem guarnecida.
17 Thy cause hath been judged as that of the wicked, cause and judgment thou shalt recover.	17 Mas tu te comportas como um malvado, com o risco de incorrer em sentença e penalidade.
18 Therefore let not anger overcome thee to oppress any man : neither let multitude of gifts turn thee aside.	18 Toma cuidado para que a cólera não te inflija um castigo e que o tamanho do resgate não te perca.
19 Lay down thy greatness without tribulation, and all the mighty of strength.	19 Acaso levará ele em conta teu grito na aflição e todos os esforços do vigor?
20 Prolong not the night that people may come up for them.	20 Não suspires pela noite da morte, que arrebata os povos de seu lugar!
21 Beware thou turn not aside to iniquity : for this thou hast begun to follow after misery.	21 Guarda-te de declinar para a iniquidade, e de preferir a injustiça ao sofrimento.
22 Behold, God is high in his strength, and none is like him among the lawgivers.	22 Vê, Deus é sublime em seu poder! Que senhor lhe é comparável?
23 Who can search out his ways? or who can say to him : Thou has wrought iniquity?	23 Quem lhe fixou seus caminhos? Quem pode dizer-lhe: ‘Fizeste mal?’.
24 Remember that thou knowest not his work, concerning which men have sung.	24 Antes lembra-te de glorificar sua obra, que a humanidade celebra em seus cânticos.
25 All men see him, every one beholdeth afar off.	25 Todos os homens a contemplam, mas cada um a considera de longe.
26 Behold, God is great, exceeding our knowledge : the number of his years is inestimable.	26 Deus é grande demais para que o possamos conhecer; o número de seus anos é incalculável.
27 He lifteth up the drops of rain, and poureth out showers like floods :	27 Atrai as gotinhas de água para transformá-las em chuva no nevoeiro.
28 Which flow from the clouds that cover all above.	28 As nuvens espalham essas águas e as destilam sobre a multidão humana.
29 If he will spread out clouds as his tent,	29 Quem pode compreender como se expandem as nuvens e o estrépito que sai de sua tenda?
30 And lighten with his light from above, he shall cover also the ends of the sea.	30 Espalha à sua volta sua luz e encobre as profundezas do mar.
31 For by these he judgeth people, and giveth food to many mortals.	31 É por esse meio que governa os povos e fornece-lhes abundante alimento.
32 In his hands he hideth the light, and commandeth it to come again.	32 Nas suas mãos esconde o raio e fixa-lhe o alvo a atingir.
33 He sheweth his friend concerning it, that it is his possession, and that he may come up to it.	33 O seu estrondo o anuncia e o rebanho também pressente aquele que se aproxima.
