1 And the earth was of one tongue, and of the same speech.	1 Or tutta la terra era di un labbro solo e di uguali parole.
2 And when they removed from the east, they found a plain in the land of Sennaar, and dwelt in it.	2 E avvenne, nel loro vagare dalla parte di oriente, che gli uomini trovarono una pianura nel paese di Sennaar, vi si stabilirono
3 And each one said to his neighbour: Come, let us make brick, and bake them of stones, and slime instead of mortar.	3 e si dissero l'un l'altro: "Orsù, facciamoci dei mattoni, e cuociamoli al fuoco". Il mattone servì loro invece della pietra e il bitume invece della malta.
4 And they said: Come, let us make a city and a tower, the top whereof may reach to heaven: and let us make our name famous before we be scattered abroad into all lands.	4 Poi essi dissero: "Orsù, costruiamoci una città con una torre, la cui cima sia nei cieli, e facciamoci un nome, per non esser dispersi sulla superficie di tutta la terra".
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of Adam were building.	5 Ma il Signore discese per vedere la città con la torre che stavano costruendo i figli dell'uomo.
6 And he said: Behold, it is one people, and all have one tongue: and they have begun to do this, neither will they leave off from their designs, till they accomplish them in deed.	6 E il Signore disse: "Ecco ch'essi sono un sol popolo e un labbro solo è per tutti loro; questo è il loro inizio nelle imprese; ormai tutto ciò che hanno meditato di fare non sarà loro impossibile.
7 Come ye, therefore, let us go down, and there may not understand one another's speech.	7 Orsù, discendiamo e confondiamo laggiù la loro lingua, cosicché essi non comprendano più la lingua l'uno dell'altro".
8 And so the Lord scattered them from that place into all lands, and they ceased to build the city.	8 Il Signore li disperse di là sulla superficie di tutta la terra ed essi cessarono di costruire la città.
9 And therefore the name thereof was called Babel, because there the language of the whole earth was confounded: and from thence the Lord scattered them abroad upon the face of all countries.	9 Per questo il suo nome fu detto Babele, perché colà il Signore mescolò il labbro di tutta la terra e di là il Signore li disperse sulla superficie di tutta la terra.
10 These are the generations of Sem: Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years after the flood.	10 Questa è la discendenza di Sem: Sem aveva l'età di cent'anni quando generò Arpacsàd, due anni dopo il diluvio;
11 And Sem lived after he begot Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.	11 Sem, dopo aver generato Arpacsàd, visse cinquecento anni e generò figli e figlie.
12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Sale.	12 Arpacsàd visse trentacinque anni e generò Selach;
13 And Arphaxad lived after he begot Sale, three hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.	13 Arpacsàd, dopo aver generato Selach, visse quattrocentotré anni e generò figli e figlie.
14 Sale also lived thirty years, and begot Heber.	14 Selach visse trent'anni e generò Eber;
15 And Sale lived after he begot Heber, four hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.	15 Selach, dopo aver generato Eber, visse quattrocentotré anni e generò figli e figlie.
16 And Heber lived thirty-four years, and begot Phaleg.	16 Eber visse trentaquattro anni e generò Peleg;
17 And Heber lived after he begot Phaleg, four hundred and thirty years: and begot sons and daughters.	17 Eber, dopo aver generato Peleg, visse quattrocentotrent'anni e generò figli e figlie.
18 Phaleg also lived thirty years, and begot Reu.	18 Peleg visse trent'anni e generò Reu;
19 And Phaleg lived after he begot Reu, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.	19 Peleg, dopo aver generato Reu, visse duecentonove anni e generò figli e figlie.
20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Sarug.	20 Reu visse trentadue anni e generò Serug;
21 And Reu lived after he begot Sarug, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.	21 Reu, dopo aver generato Serug, visse duecentosette anni e generò figli e figlie.
22 And Sarug lived thirty years, and begot Nachor.	22 Serug visse trent'anni e generò Nacor;
23 And Sarug lived after he begot Nachor, two hundred years: and begot sons and daughters.	23 Serug, dopo aver generato Nacor, visse duecento anni e generò figli e figlie.
24 And Nachor lived nine and twenty years, and begot Thare.	24 Nacor visse ventinove anni e generò Terach;
25 And Nachor lived after he begot Thare, a hundred and nineteen years: and begot sons and daughters.	25 Nacor, dopo aver generato Terach, visse centodiciannove anni e generò figli e figlie.
26 And Thare lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Aran.	26 Terach visse settanta anni e generò Abram, Nacor e Aran.
27 And these are the generations of Thare: Thare begot Abram, Nachor, and Aran. And Aran begot Lot.	27 Questa è la genealogia di Terach: Terach generò Abram, Nacor e Aran. Aran generò Lot.
28 And Aran died before Thare his father, in the land of his nativity in Ur of the Chaldees.	28 Aran poi morì, durante la vita di suo padre Terach, nella sua terra nativa, in Ur dei Caldei.
29 And Abram and Nachor married wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai: and the name of Nachor's wife, Melcha, the daughter of Aran, father of Melcha, and father of Jescha.	29 Abram e Nacor si presero delle mogli; il nome della moglie di Abram era Sarai e il nome della moglie di Nacor era Milca, figlia di Aran, padre di Milca e di Isca.
30 And Sarai was barren, and had no children.	30 Sarai era sterile, non aveva figlioli.
31 And Thare took Abram, his son, and Lot the son of Aran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, the wife of Abram his son, and brought them out of Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan: and they came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.	31 Poi Terach prese Abram, suo figlio, e Lot figlio di Aran, suo nipote, e Sarai sua nuora, moglie di suo figlio Abram, e li fece uscire da Ur dei Caldei, per andare nella terra di Canaan. Ma arrivati a Carran vi si stabilirono.
32 And the days of Thare were tow hundred and five years, and he died in Haran.	32 Il tempo che Terach visse fu di duecentocinque anni, poi morì in Carran.
